Yes, a recession that barely registered in the economy. He cut taxes for the same reason republicans always want to cut taxes. It’s short term pandering to their donors, at the expense of the country.

Why didn’t republicans do anything about it when they controlled government from 2001-2007?

what did you expect them to do that recession was a longtime coming and Bush warned congress this was going to happen with the major increase of defaulted home loans caused by the Carter and Clinton community redevelopment program forcing banks to give out so many subprime mortgages

    short term?
Reagans Tax cuts cause the longest and strongest economic development in our history

We call this period, 1982-2007, the twenty-five year boom--the greatest period of wealth creation in the history of the planet. In 1980, the net worth--assets minus liabilities--of all U.S. households and business ... was $25 trillion in today’s dollars. By 2007, ... net worth was just shy of $57 trillion. Adjusting for inflation, more wealth was created in America in the twenty-five year boom than in the previous two hundred years.

Tax cuts had nothing to do with the tech boom. Reagan’s economics were a complete failure. They only increased the wealth gap by orders of magnitude.

The dems weren’t in control from 2001-2007. Republicans were.

Why would they be, they were not failing based on poor choices and management. They didn’t need free money to continue to operate.

The worst post Great Depression recession was the double dip recessions of 1980 and 81-82. Double digit unemployment, double digit inflation, double digit interest rates and a drop in the GDP by 2.2% in 80 and 2.7% in 81-82.
Lets not forget gas rationing and sitting in line for 6 ****ing hours at a gas station to purchase your ten gallons of gas you were limited to purchasing.

    What caused the recession.

In 1980 the Feds prematurely raised the interest rates.

But the real cause was the energy crisis of the 1970's, the OPEC oil embargo and the jihadist revolution in Iran.

    Were the recessions avoidable ?

I suppose we could have thrown Israel under the bus. That's what one President legacy will be...throwing American allies under the bus.

The so called energy crisis was an invention of the Carter administration based on failed projections, kinda like AGW.

According to the Washingtom Examiner, simply attempting something is an achievement for Trump.

that's a pretty low bar for achievement.

    :)

That’s the democrat motto. Doesn’t matter if it fails, it’s the thought that counts.

well, Trump is mentally retarded, so any attempt by him to do something is impressive.
