United Nations To America: You Owe Blacks Reparation Payments! A 2016 report by a U.N.-affiliated group found that the United States’s history of slavery and racial segregation warrants reparations for African Americans. The United Nations’ Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent concluded that “the legacy of colonial history, enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the United States remains a serious challenge, as there has been no real commitment to reparations and to truth and reconciliation for people of African descent.” The group drew comparisons between lynchings of earlier decades and contemporary police killings. It recommended “urgent action” through “improving the reporting of violations involving the excessive use of force and extrajudicial killings by the police.” This conclusion was reached after a fact-finding mission in Washington in January. The group’s recommendations are non-binding, yet echo a similar call for reparations by a coalition of Caribbean nations, the main tenets of which the United States should adopt, according to the U.N. group. “Past injustices and crimes against African Americans need to be addressed with reparatory justice,” the group declared in a statement. Reparations could take the form of “a formal apology, health initiatives, educational opportunities, an African knowledge programme, psychological rehabilitation, technology transfer and financial support, and debt cancellation.” Awareness should also be raised through monuments, education, and memorials that are accompanied by “acts of reconciliation,” the group detailed. This would work to counteract “the dangerous ideology of white supremacy [which] inhibits social cohesion amongst the United States population.” United Nations To America: You Owe Blacks Reparation Payments!
The united nations is in no position to speak about the united states owing reparations to anyone, when it has absolutely refused to properly discipline its own peacekeepers and personnel for the sexual exploitation of minors in the central african republic. If they are not engaging in the exploitation and abuse directly by acting as the receiving customer, they are actively engaged in the trafficking process to deliver minors to the customers.
You bet we'll never guess ... cause the UN didn't say it. A working group SUBMITTED a report to the United Nations suggesting they should initiate reparations that could come in the form of education, or an apology or debt cancellation. The UN itself, DID NOT take action on that report. Another right-wing fairy tale pulled from the asses of radio talk show hosts and chain e-mail. Have you guys no shame.
Explain the difference between the united nations, and the united nations' working group of experts on people of african descent, so it can be understood how one is not in any way connected to the other. If the working group is officially sanctioned and employed by the united nations directly, what is the meaningful difference between the two groups that defines them as being wholly separate entities?
When John McCain voted on health care repeal - did he represent the Republican Party? Or was he just a small part of that party? When an American General comes up with a plan to nuke Waseristahn, does that plan become the official stance of the American government - or is it just a proposal? If the reparations were not voted on or approved by the general assembly, it's just a group making a proposal - it's not the official position of the UN. Got it?
