Alright, someone has to do it, to continue the annual tradition of a thread asking for predictions for the upcoming year (in honor of @Lil Mike and @gringo). So, here it is, give us your 2023 predictions. Here are mine:

-The Ukraine war will continue as an entrenched conflict, but will receive less and less media attention. Putin will be further backed into a corner and will start looking for a way our without losing face.

-Inflation will continue to normalize, with a risk of possible deflation by the end of the year, in case of a recession.

-The Fed will hike rates two more times, but only by 0.25% points, after that, they may have to decrease rates, if the soft landing has not been achieved.

-We'll have a recession starting in the third quarter of 2023.

-Gas prices will continue to go down, most likely to an average we had before covid.

-The Supreme Court will strike down Biden's student loan forgiveness program.

-We will continue seeing 500-1000 daily covid deaths, as the virus becomes fully entrenched. People will not care.

-The GOP-controlled House will start several investigations of Biden/covid/Hunter. Other than that, they will achieve nothing but being the party of no.

-McCarthy will become Speaker of the House, after conceding to the GOP House crazies like Gaetz etc.

-Trump will further sink into irrelevance. He'll come up with a few increasingly more desperate attempts to stay in the spotlight, which will be seen by voters as a loser's game.

-DeSantis will be the new shining star of the Trump party, inventing a few more of his performance politics stunts to attract the vote of the extremist base.

-Biden will announce that he will run for re-election, to the detriment of the Dem party, which will have no viable challenger.

-The stock market will go down, go up, or stay the same.

Hello campers! Dr. Doom here. Predictions:

Trade war with Europe as Biden encourages domestic production to shorten supply chains.

California passes reparations. Massive population shift as blacks move to cash in.

Half a million more illegal immigrants shipped to major cities. Housing crisis averted in most cities as blacks moved to California.

Transmania comes to a screeching halt as thousands of detransitioners sue health care providers.

Biden manages to engineer simultaneous inflation and depression. Resigns in disgrace.

Famine stalks the land even as silos are bursting. Socialist revolution. AOC acclaimed President For Life.

    Then it is all downhill.

My single prediction -- Morons will try to predict what will happen throughout the year. Even a blind hog gets an acorn every now and then.

The society will move further to the left. Conservative thought will continue its decline particularly among republican politicians.

    - The Ukraine war will escalate and other countries will get involved

    - Desantis will win the Republican nomination, Trump will run as an independent, and Biden will not run again, Biden will promote Kamala Harris as the nominee and she will become the first female president because the Republican vote will be divided.

    - inflation will go down as job losses go up

    - there will be a recession

    - gas prices will go up because there has been no permanent adjustment to output and everything done has been a temporary resolve focused on an election year. I would definitely expect to see $4 a gallon again this year

    - I agree on student loan forgiveness and this will likely cause riots

    - COVID deaths may go up but not at the rate you think. We are working on here immunity and I doubt we will have numbers like before

    - I also think we will enter a new war this year in an attempt to control space.

    - Republicans will launch investigations and they will likely be stonewalled.

    - the stock market will go up in my opinion. When inflation rises so do profits. It’s about the ratio not the whole

    I will play...

before years end 20 republicans will announce a presidential run...it will be a true clown car

Biden and the democrats will once again attempt tax reform... particularly tax fraud...

immigration will stay the same and maybe a little less...until these immigrants stop being hungry it wont slow

Biden and democrats will once again attempt immigration reform...the reply from the GOP will be the democrats want open borders

many of these 20 GOP presidential candidates will make a campaign slogan claiming there are open borders, and this slogan will be heard around the world by every hungry person that dreams of eating a big mac

Kevin Mcarthy eventually makes speaker..only because there are so few options in the GOP..somebody has to be called the leader

trump agrees to withdraw from the race to avoid prosecution...that is the only request made by the republicans on the Jan 6th committie

"trump should never again hold public office" is what Liz Cheney is requesting ..she is not requesting he goes to jail

like always...during tax season people spend their return like it was found money...then in summer gas prices will rise again and Biden will be blamed

the government will keep printing money...the GOP will claim they oppose the spending all the while lining their own pockets

inflation will be constant throughout the year..

Fox news settles out of court with dominion ...

the settlement will not be made public but the rumors will be it was close to a Billion dollars

Roy Wood or Ronnie Chang take over as host after trevor Noah ..gotta stay politically correct and hire from a minority

and Biden will stay old and feeble, but will get things done...he will stay boring

most legislation will be gridlocked until both sides can claim it was their idea...then more printing more money

    You're funny.

All that needs to happen is for Republicans to stop voting for GOP fascists. It's that simple.

Problem is your addicted to the hooch.

I predict republicans will be the party of "No" and nothing much will get passed, not even bipartisan bills that benefit the people

I would like to be wrong, and maybe a few republicans will break that trend - time will tell

The GOP controlled House will shutdown the government once again while simultaneously failing to achieve any outcome that substantially represents anything that once was considered among conservative fiscal policy goals.

McCarthy eventually will become the Pied-Piper of Clowns
The Clowns will start a 3 ring circus of revenge, that becomes a soap box of bombastic bullshit nobody takes seriously.
"Republicans" will be to busy picking up the pieces left over by the tRump binge they've been on.
The whole GOP party is going to resemble a bunch of drunks waking up with a hangover wondering how they got where they are.
The GOP Clowns will turn Congress into a chess game of pigeons where they knock all the pieces down and **** on the board.
TRaitor tRump will become ever more irrelevant, with growing financial and legal woes. Ending up in prison or bankrupt or both. He won't be the 2024 GOP presidential nom.
President Joe will continue to be slandered and ridiculed but will keep plodding along steering the Country in a safe direction.
DeSenseless will become the front runner of Clowns but MAGA will fade into history.
If not Desenseless whomever becomes the leader of the GOP Clown show, If he has any leadership in him or her will try to right the GOP train and get it back on track. Good luck
Our Nation will maintain it's place as the most powerful in the world
Putin's Ukraine war slogs on but eventually bankrupts Russia and he loses power, not sure if that will happen before years end but that's where it's headed.
The world could end up in War 3, not because Puting nukes Ukraine, but because the inevitable vacuum caused by a failed Russia could destabilize the world to that point.
China will face serious economic problems, which could cause a recession but it will not affect the rest of the world to the extent it will be in China.
We could again face another COVID crisis if ALL Americans don't start taking the disease seriously. What's happening in China is our warning beacon that shouldn't be ignored, but will be.

    My predictions:

    1. At best I will be one year closer to death. At worst I will be dead.
    2. I will make a thousand or so rants on PF.
    3. The elites will continue getting exactly what they want.
    4. The impoverishment and hollowing of the middle class will continued as scheduled.
    5. The elites will continue in their attempt to destroy Tesla and Elon Musk. 50% chance Musk takes a knee on Twitter to save Tesla.

Actually, not too bad! But I stick with Yogi Berra who said making good predictions is very hard, especially about the future.

Well, there is no fun in that. I KNOW that I can't make predictions, but there is nothing better than giving it a shot, only to be proven wrong in Jan 2024. So, come on, give it a try.

Usually, I do a comprehensive list of predictions for the year and then grade myself at the end of the year and congratulate myself how well I’ve done. Although I’ve certainly had some off years, I’ve more often than not have done rather well in the prediction biz. But this year I decided to try something new and do predictions piecemeal as the topics come to me. I think that will make them more relevant. So, for this year we’ll see how that goes.

So starting out: By the end of the year, Russia and Ukraine will have begun the process of a cease fire and talks to end the war.

Debt ceiling issue won't be resolved - as both parties decide that crashing the economy is the best strategy to win in 2024 as they blame each other and use their media talking heads to spit out their BS messages

Ultimately the party in charge takes the blame, but the dems will be too clueless to realize that

I have a feeling the economic conditions will likely get worse. Inflation will be harder to deal with than most predict.

I think the war in Ukraine will go on a lot longer than most people think, for a few reasons:

    1. Ukraine has plenty of men and is getting more aid from the US per year than the US spent on any single year of the Afghanistan war.

    2. Russia is unlikely to revolt against Putin in any way that could end the war. A lot of Russians have a stubbornly high approval of him. Anyone with even a chance of pulling it off is likely to be just as militaristic if not more.

    3. There is no situation in which the Ukraine doesn't get back all its territory plus Crimea where they sue for peace. There is no situation in which Russia doesn't at least hold Crimea and gain Eastern Ukraine where they sue for peace.

    4. Both sides have plenty of men.

    5. It's in the interests of the people who control our governments for the war to continue. Mainly defense contractors and manufacturers, but also the intelligence and geopolitics communities.

    6. Russia was already under sanctions when the war began, which has blunted their effect. There are plenty of countries which aren't firmly on either side which will continue to buy Russian exports and launder them into the West - Turkey and India for instance.

Other than this its hard to predict the future with anything even approaching certainty. There are simply too many variables.
