We hear from religious people about the soul which gives us our self-awareness, emotions, thought and much more. When you die the soul leaves and doesn't return long after death until there is some sort of miracle.

However if we have a soul that provide these things so do many animals since we have many examples of them displaying intelligence, emotions, self-awareness and a whole host of other traits.

There is an experiment where scientists drained dogs of all their blood, and replaced it with a cool saline solution. This killed the dogs, but three hours later when their blood was returned they were brought back to life.

This seem to conflict with the idea that if you kill someone that person is dead because the soul left so even if you try to patch up the body of the dead person, he is still dead.

Some obvious rebuttals is that animals may not have souls in the way humans do, or that in some cases the soul can return after death as heard in near death experiences, and who knows this can happen far after death.

There's nothing in Judaism, Christianity, or Islam that says that animals have souls.

That doesn't mean they don't. Its no surprise the bible doesn't talk about them since animals really aren't the focus of the bible. But if the soul is responsible for the things Christians say it is, then animals do have a soul. Almost every Christian source addressing this question says yes. It follows pretty logically.

That's false doctrine that isn't supported by any of the fairy tales. Maybe you are thinking about another ethnocentric religious fairy tale. Hinduism has some animal deities.

well most religious people haven't got a clue, they follow their theology. in biblical context man was declared a living soul. don't know of anything else God has made that is the same. anyway, flesh can fear and so can man, but man can honor an agreement with an other, despite what his emotions this is something animals don't do therefore the soul gives man this ability.

What Jesus taught is simple, men are the result of the kingdoms they are in like the animals are the result of their environment, but those that truly belong to Christ are the result of the Kingdom that is within them, and all kingdoms are basically an agreement, covenant if you will and Jesus Christ is the fulfilled agreement between man and God that is King in God's Kingdom.

hence Jesus restores the status of man's soul to "living soul" in the Presence of God. just as if some one was to restore ones flesh to living in the presence of the world. after the tree Adam and Eve were dead souls, their souls not being in the Presence of God any more.

Christians aren't the 'know all' or the 'last word' on souls.

The soul is religious mumbo jumbo that makes people feel warm and fuzzy and less afraid of death. We're just meat buddy.

The OT mentions animals having souls/spirits, but I'd have to look it up again. It has been a while. Ecclesiastes?

na, there maybe varying misunderstanding of what a soul is especially within religious circles the soul is a dead one without Christ, which in many cases people might believe there isn't one in the first place. they have no sense of one. which doesn't mean there isn't one.

My belief is that humans are made in the image of the Elohim.....
but animals are made in the image of various species of angels......

Somewhere in the Psalms it writes about Messiah riding on a cherub..... and in
the Book of Revelation it has Messiah, (or perhaps two separate Messiah's/ Moshiach ben Ephrayim and Moshiach ben David), riding on a white horse.

Can some Cherubs' look like a horse????

The near death experience accounts of pet owners who met a deceased pet during their near death experience may be some of the most useful to us because they will give us something to work with that could eventually be useful in comforting a child or grandchild.

    Ecclesiastes 3:19

For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

    Ecclesiastes 3:21

Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

Ask a scientist what a soul is. They will tell you there is no such thing. We are what our brains think. Nothing more.

You should read Elisabeth Kubler-Ross was a Swiss-American psychiatrist who spent her life studying OBEs, thousands of them. Some were of blind people who could tell you accurately what they saw, even remembering the license number of the car that cut them down. When they were revived, they were blind again. Out of thousands of cases, no one ever said they saw a relative that was still alive. Children, you would think might see their parents, but not a single instance unless a parent preceded them.
She was a 2007 inductee into the American National Women's Hall of Fame.[2] She was the recipient of twenty honorary degrees and by July 1982 had taught, in her estimation, 125,000 students in death and dying courses in colleges, seminaries, medical schools, hospitals, and social-work institutions.[3] In 1970, she delivered The Ingersoll Lectures on Human Immortality at Harvard University, on the theme, On Death and Dying.
This was a learned woman, a doctor and a scientist. I myself have seen 2 spirits in my life.
