We are all for a cleaner Earth. However, the way the EPA goes about business, is very counter-productive and destructive. They are out of sync with reality.
I think it's worse than that. I believe that the EPA has been co-opted by an ideology which efforts to grind American productivity to a halt, to better control its people and assimilate them into global Government. As much as I've tried, this is the inescapable conclusion for me. Such an entity would do whatever it could to cost America more money while not actually creating noticeable improvement - just as taxpayer so ably identified.
You are correct; the EPA has become a non-elected "legislature",and layer of taxation without representation , upon the American people.
what's to dispute. it's been going on since the railroads. it's another reason I am screaming RON PAUL!
We need a Congress Of Repeal that repeals all the underlying statutes that authorize regulations and also we need to eliminate appropriations for excess regulatory administration. Ron Paul would not be enough.
I cannot blame regulators for doing what they were hired to do, write regulations. I blame congress for not noting the problem.
The only way for term limits to work is to limit the source of pay...In the case of Maine, which has term limits, the politician simply moves to another government job and then to lobbying with pay derived from government funds...A 20 year limit on all government sourced jobs excepting the military and Peace Corp...and it would take a Constitutional amendment
That's why it has to be term limits on elected officials and no more law making by bureaucrats. The govt job loses its importance if it cannot pass regulations and laws.
People we have term limits. They are called elections. The problem we have now is a term limited presidency. Bush couldn't veto things in his last two years because congress would have ignored him. So he negotiated with the democrats trying to avert disaster. It didn't work. we deserve the govenment we have.
Yes this is a DC problem, while Obama is worst then others but that could work to ending DC. Anyone supporting Romney is only saying lets slow things down not change them! It in fact may work against "Civil Liberties" and the future of our Nation to vote this lilly-white designer of Obamacare into office. I'm starting to believe it may be best to have another 4 years of Obama then 4 years of Romney that will only do more of what Obama would do under the disguise of being more moderate. Yet the outcome is the same, kind of like the frog in boiling water, if you do it slow enough the frog sits there and dies.
Only problem with your reasoning is that Paul never accomplished a single thing in 3 decades in Congress. He was never a solution, he has been part of the problem for 3 decades. Romney and Gingrich actually have accomplishments on their records.
JIMV posted: "I cannot blame regulators for doing what they were hired to do, write regulations. I blame congress for not noting the problem." Taxcutter says: This is a good point. Essentially Congress has been derelict in its duties for decades. They punted off the business of the details of regulations to unelected drones. There is a legal point to make. Regulators cannot make statute and regulations do not have the force of criminal sanctions. You can't sent someone to jail for spewing carbon dioxide. On the other hand, regulations, since they are enforced in civil courts, are not subject to the rigors of a criminal case. Without civil discovery, the burden of proof for regulatory cases will be virtually unbearable. Maybe a compromise (generated by statute) is in order. Strip regulators of the authority to promulgate regulations. Regulatory agencies would have to come to Congress to get statutes passed that carry the same standards. Thus the people who put the standards into effect are accountable to the people.
That sounds very reasonable. This should be put to a nationwide vote, where the voters can be in charge of these politicians instead of themselves. They are supposed to be working for us.
You got a point, he never successfully penned a idea like Obamacare such as Romney. I see your point but I'm not looking for someone that is interested in working with DC establishment but someone that would cause it great hardship. As I see it the only way to fix DC at this point is by burning it down such as the anniversary of the 1812 War was just the other day wasn't it?
Funny thing about the ozone hole. Since the EPA promulgated 40 CFR 82 pursuant to the 1990 Amendments to the Clean Air Act in 1990, the ozone hole has not changed one iota in either annual duration, area covered, or concentration of ozone. The consumers were not allowed any input into 40 CFR 82, but have paid the price (scores of billions collectively) for this regulation which obviously has not worked. I doubt if the astronauts were in stakeholder meetings when the decision was made to cease granting NASA an exemption for R-12 as a lofting agent for the insulating foam on the Shuttle. For years, the foam lofted by R-12 worked flawlessly. But when it was no longer exempt, NASA had to use hexane as the lofting agent and hexane is chemically far more active (and inflammable to boot) and NASA has had all sorts of trouble with the hexane-lofted foam. That includes a crashed Shuttle. Now the shuttle is a museum piece and American go into space on Russian rockets. ...and the ozone hole remains the same.
We could certainly do without the EPA. Like you said, they are basically a rogue entity, and out of control.
We used to have such limits but the incumbents have enacted so many protections that the reality is one in which the fellow almost always serves until retirement or a better offer arises.
Why aren't you running for President man!!??....good points. and they all can work. the latter part is "suppose" to be that way now. but Obama didn't get that memo. He answers only to the UN Security council.
I'm too old to run for president. I'm almost as old as Paul. Both of us are older than the oldest president ever elected. I'm retired, Paul will be soon.
that's too bad..Common sense like your generation has is very rare these days. thanks for your pinpoint insight on this issue.
