Best combo ever is- Sierra Nevada Pal Ale (cold to almost frozen) and a double neat shot of Jim Beam Black. A taste sensation like none other, and then the warm fuzzies creep in. Glorious, like a heavenly well.
I'd venture to say I know more about whiskey than you, if that is the case. Whiskey is a spirit for one thing. Beer is full of fillers...it's more a food than a beverage. Hence the "beer gut"...so prevalent on the beer drinkers.
None of your statements qualify one as better than the other. What is it that you know about whiskey that is alluding me?
What is it you know about beer that is alluding me? Ever drink a 12 year old beer? Beer is a ruined whiskey...as both share similar distilling processes, it's just the beer drinker lacks the patience to appreciate an aged spirit. All one has to look at is the price... You get what you pay for. The best beer you can buy might set you back 12 or 15 dollars for a six pack. Beer snob is an oxymoron....a guy who might shell out an extra 10 dollars for a 6-pack of a higher quality beer..to impress his friends and feel smug about the guy drinking a Bud Light. Wow...big spenders beware....(sarcasm) Hence Ford vs. Ferrari.
I have had aged beers before, some of them incredible, however, one glaringly obvious thing I know about beer that seems to allude you is that BEER IS NOT DISTILLED. It is not a "ruined whiskey". It is not any type of whiskey. It is an entirely different beverage, and there are beers that cost quite a lot of money as well.
Whisky is distilled beer. Both made from various grains.... and I've had 100 year old scotch whisky...and as I say....comparing that to any beer on the market today...is laughable. A 50-year-old bottle of Macallan whiskey sold for $60,000 a shot....that is of course out of my budget... however my analogy stands... Ford vs. Ferrari Beer snob is an oxymoron...the guy willing to pay an extra 10 - 15 dollars for a 6 pack to impress his friends and feel smug about it at the guy drinking a Miller Lite. It's still a 12 dollar six pack.... big deal.
Whiskey is not distilled beer. It's distilled mash, without the hops. Guy, it's fine if you like whiskey more than beer, but you don't seem to know all that much about either. Also, I hope you understand that beer loves aren't going around looking to spend more money to impress people by not drinking Bud Light. We shell out the extra cash because we love the way craft beer tastes.
With whiskey like beer, malted barley and other grains are the source of the sugars necessary for fermentation. I find most beer snobs to be poseurs is all... nothing personal. They put down a guy who buys a 12 pack of Miller Lite....and scoffs at them... "you don't know beer"... Yeah...a guy willing to spend an extra Alexander Hamilton to get the higher quality....makes him feel superior. Don;'t break the bank there buddy....you're still driving a Ford, just a higher end Ford.
There's no reason to be that way. There is a place for both beer and liquor. When's the last time you talked about whiskey pairings with your meal? Probably never, but it's pretty standard for beer and wine.
You gotta be trolling now. You're the only one making a big deal of how much is spent. I'd gladly buy the cheapest beer on the shelf if it was also the best, but that's pretty much not the case. And yes, whiskey and beer are both created from similar ingredients (with the crucial exclusion of hops, which is not used in whiskey) but the processes are very different and whiskey is certainly not "distilled beer" as you previously claimed. I'm just finding it a bit suspicious that you make such obviously inaccurate statements yet hold yourself to be such an expert.
I'm not trolling. I don't drink beer, I drnk the occasional whisky/whiskey...mainly Maker's Mark. A higher end spirit, but not "the best" probably to a true afficianado... and whisky is at it's core a distilled beer, regardles of your opinion. Start any beer thread on any forum and the beer snobs start gathering like moths to a flame, posting photos of various exotic beers. Post a photo of a Bud Light or Miller Lite...oh boy, here comes the ridicule... "how can you drink that swill" hey maybe someone just likes Bud Light? Start a Whisky thread...you'll get the Jack Daniels mentions or other lesser priced spirits, and I doubt you would see the same contempt. sorry you can't handle the truth... Beer snobs are the worst... It's still just beer.
Um.... no. There is a huge difference between Coors, which is disgusting, and black ale which is delicious.
I'm sure there is. However why the contemputuous attitude towards those who may like a Coors? Not all those who appreciate a good beer are contemptuous, but part of the persona of the "beer snob"...certain ones I'll say...is to put down the palette of others. Insulting all domestic beers as beneath their finely honed beer tasting palettes. Give me a break. It's beer. Beer has always been the adult beverage of choice for the average Joe. The snobbery aspect of it goes against the spirit (no pun intended) of beer. Egyptians brewed it for crying out loud...it's been around as long as civilization itself... Seems to me the snobbery aspect of certain people towards it, flies in the face of beer's history. A brew for the masses...not a drink for the Gods. Do folks really want to start wearing tuxedos, swishing beer around and spitting it out like wine snobs? "Oh a vintage Pale Ale...circa 2011..a good year for hops...must've rained in the Bavarian alps that year...I denote a taste of oak" Sheesh... Beer snobs for ya.
I suggest watching "The Beer Wars". There are plenty of good domestic beers made by various breweries, however all of those do not use rice to dull down the flavor.
I'm partial to Calfkiller at the moment, but you won't find their brews outside of Middle Tennessee. Green Flash out of San Diego also has some great stuff. But I'm not above drinking a PBR if that's all that is available.
WAIT A SECOND HERK!!!! While you've been on here insulting beer drinkers with your "Ford vs Ferrari" comments, your whiskey of choice is MAKER'S MARK?!?!?!? Some Ferrari that is I wouldn't normally make fun of someone for drinking a cheaper and lower quality bourbon than me, but after all the pompous Ferrari talk I have to laugh at you man. You're drinking a standard mass-produced midshelf bourbon and acting like a bigshot compared to people who drink peasantly beer. Give me a break dude.
Like most other things, you have no clue about bourbon. Makers Mark makes a (*)(*)(*)(*) good tasting bourbon.
Feeling rich? Here Rolling Rock is dirt cheap. I can pick up a 30 pack for 18 dollars. It is cheaper than Coors or Bud.
Like I said, it's a standard mass-produced midshelf bourbon. It's certainly no "Ferrari". It's also a bit syrupy for my tastes if you're talking about drinking it neat. My well bourbon is Woodford Reserve.
Adjunct lagers such as the products you get from companies like Budweiser, Miller, and Coors are typically considered lower in quality because in order to produce huge amounts of beer at a low cost, they skimp on the barley and use cheaper grains as filler instead, resulting in a fizzy, yellow, flavorless brew.
