Yep, and you continue to make that claim despite being corrected in the past.

Your factoid includes the deaths of criminals. I am less than inclined to do anything more than simply dismiss your argument as non-sense.

Of course you do. Because to do otherwise is to realize how silly the idea that carrying a gun makes you "safer" really is.

A gun in the home is 22 times more likely to be used in a completed or attempted suicide (11x), criminal assault or homicide (7x), or unintentional shooting death or injury (4x) than to be used in a self-defense shooting. (Kellermann, 1998, p. 263).

Guns are used to intimidate and threaten 4 to 6 times more often than they are used to thwart crime (Hemenway, p. 269).

Every year there are only about 200 legally justified self-defense homicides by private citizens (FBI, Expanded Homicide Data, Table 15) compared with over 30,000 gun deaths (NCIPC).

A 2009 study found that people in possession of a gun are 4.5 times more likely to be shot in an assault (Branas).

I'm 56 years old and have been in every major American city, lived on the Mexican border, driven a cab, worked as a bartender and a bouncer. I've used guns for recreation but never, not one time in my life did I feel a NEED for a gun.

But if it makes you feel better, have at it.

    How am I a Marxist?

Well when you dare accuse your government of being socialistic, you should be able to spell the terms you use correctly. Your pathetic whining is an insult to people who did actually live under such regimes.

I'd remind them of my 2nd and 4th Amendment Rights and close the door. Executive orders do not trump the Bill of Rights. If the president signed an executive order making slavery legal again, it does not trump the 13th Amendment.

Democrats? Oh yeah, the guys that supported the Patriot Act along with Bush. These are the same Democrats that, despite controlling the White House, Sentate, and HOR, have not only failed to repeal the Patriot Act, but have utilized and strengthed this law over the past 4 years. Good choice

Re-read my previous post as the dismissal on your non-sensical arguement.

"What will you do when they come for your guns?"

the same thing ex-felons do today, if I had them I would hand them over, what else would one do?

I feel everyone has a right to protect their home and person with a gun, but I think that fight needs to be in a courtroom, not a Mexican stand off

You seemed too quick to take offense when Bourgeois/Bourgeoisie was a typo.

As your posts are everywhere, I saw recently that you claimed to be some form of a libertarian. From what I've picked up, you seem more like a radical, leftist, Marxist-Socialist.

The basic plan of Marxists and Socialists is income redistribution. A full-flown Marxist will believe in all the tenants and use force to enact them. Even if you believe in many of the basic tenants, that is enough evidence to tip the scales and judge you to be "one of them."

    Do you support:

    Central government banking?
The right for government workers (local state federal) to join unions?
The right of eminint domain and right to take private propery?
    Higher taxes on the wealthy?
    Inheritance taxes?
Goverenment influence and control of eduction (funding, lunch programs, standards)?
Right of government to take over and bail out corperations?
Right of regional planning, or right to control people and industry by environmental, health and so on, by laws and government agencies?

All you have done is cut and paste propaganda from the Brady Campaign. These items were debunked years ago. Most of the studies used tailored data and were not peer reviewed until years later when public pressure forced them to release their data and methodology (such as Kellerman).

Your "200 legally justified self-defense homicides by private citizens" is a small subset of self-defense shootings. A quick google search of the literature shows this -

"Measuring Civilian Defensive Firearm Use: A Methodological Experiment." David McDowall, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, March 2000.
In the US, non-law enforcement people use a firearm to defend themselves over 980,000 times a year.

Sure, call the police - if you have a phone. If the criminal lets you use the phone. If you have time to use the phone.

Assuming the police can get to you in time.

    Wow.

You know, you could get hit by a car and killed instantly, so why have health insurance?

Of course all the police must be silly to carry guns here and the rest of the world, as there is no real need to carry them based on your own narrow world view. Cops really don't need guns to stop dangerous felons, they can use tasers and bean bags and pepper spray. As you would imagine, during the 1986 FBI shooting in Florida, and in the North Hollywood shootout, any cop could have walked up these heavily armed killing machines and stopped them with non-lethal force.

As a supposed tough-guy man-of-the-world, you don't feel the need for them, therefore and also [based on typical Brady Bunch information] anyone else would be stupid to have a gun because they would be more likely to shoot themselves or some relative. Guns are only tools, as are chainsaws, which caused 28,543 injuries in the US in 1999. As chainsaws are inherently more dangerous to operate than guns---by your logic---anyone would be silly to use them. Studies by Kleck have shown that the risk of accidentaly injuring oneself with a gun is very low. Because you are so tough (I bet) you can't see the need of older and less stronger people than yourself who live in dangerous areas to have guns, which is the very best way to defend themselves once a larger attacker is coming for them.

I'll laugh at them. I quit carrying a gun when they quit paying me to wear one. That was almost twenty years ago and I haven't needed a gun once since I quit wearing one.

    Why would I reread it?

    You said nothing.

My son feels safer going to bed with his blankey.
You feel safer sticking a pistol in your undies.

    I see no real difference.

    Denied is not debunked.

"The research used a standard crossover design. Telephone interviews collected the information from 3,001 households. Half the participants answered questions from the NCVS, followed by questions from the other surveys. The other half answered the questions in the reverse order. The research examined two hypotheses: (1) Survey methods account for the divergent results, and (2) The questions cover unrelated activities. Results provided some support for the first hypothesis, but participants also reported many more defenses to the questions from the other surveys than to the NCVS questions. Findings were consistent with the second hypothesis in suggesting that the NCVS and the other surveys measure responses to largely different provocations. Findings also indicated the need to avoid comparing other survey estimates of defense to NCVS estimates of crime. 22 references (Author abstract modified)"

    Try again.

Maybe thgs time they could survey dead people.

And when an off duty cop walks into my kids kindergarten class carrying a weapon ...

Hey. carry a gun if you like. If it, like my 6 year old's blankey makes you feel safer, I'm happy for you. Just know that the gun you're carrying is much more likely to kill a family member, friend , loved one or you than it is ever likely to kill a criminal.

Have I not said that if you want to carry a firearm , please do?

So how am I imposing on your "right."

I have simply pointed out the misconception, driven by your paranoia, that you are somehow "safer" by carrying a gun.

    You are not.
    Your family is not.
    Your friends are not.

Many municipalities would ignore the EO. It would be baseless.

You know that the Kellerman "study" that backs your statement above has been debunked ad nauseum? Using figures from the same Kellerman "study," it shows that non-gun-owners are NINETY-NINE TIMES more likely to kill a family member, friend, or loved one than to kill a criminal. Any way you look at it, if you are a responsible, law-abiding citizen, then you are better off with a gun.

Yes. I'm sure this guy feels much better thanks to the protection afforded by his firearm.

    http://savannahnow.com/news/2012-07-06/3-year-old-pooler-girl-killed-accidental-shooting

The simple fact is that if you carry a gun you are some four times more likely to be shot than someone who does not carry a gun.
If you own a gun that gun is far more likely to kill you than to ever kill or wound any criminal.
If you own a gun you are far more likely to use it to kill your spouse or children than to kill any criminal.

You may feel better off because you carry a gun but the facts indicate that you and no one near you is better off.

I respect your position.. but I cant agree with you. When I go hiking I go armed.. dont know about you.. but I ( and my dog) have been stalked by a mountain lion.. if that ever happens again I will be armed. When I go jogging I carry a Taser and a concealed 5 inch blade ( I have been attacked by dogs and have been harassed by thug biker idiots)...These things dont happen often.. but they happen and when/if they happen again I will be prepared to make myself as undesirable a target as possible.

At home I have a shotgun, two rifles and 3 pistols ready to go. All family memebers are educated in gun saftey and are proficient in their operation. In the event of a break in my family knows to I.D right away and move to a certain room in the house as quickly as possible.

When I travel long distance I travel armed. I dont carry concealed in everyday life around town.. the odds that I will need it at the local grocery store..etc are very low and the risks in those situations outweigh the benefits.

In the Home I know my family is safer because of the presence of firearms, not soley because of firearms but in conjunction of the thourough training and preparation in thier use. In isolated areas... situations where you will be more likely to be targetted by predators ( human or animal) such as jogging, trip to the ATM at off hours, Hiking, Long distance travel.. etc... I am fully supportive of being armed and I fully believe that a trained and responsible person is safer for it.. as are the people around him/her

Tell that to the folks in Chicago and DC during their gun bans and subsequent highest rates of murder in the U.S.

see?.....you right away assume my carrying a firearm is the result of my 'paranoia',and then proceed to give me your opinion of who isn't 'safe' by my having a gun

Sorry jack, but the 'misconceptions' are coming from YOU more than anyone else.
