The previous Australian government was locking asylum seekers up in camps, including one on a little island somewhere. This didn't decrease the flow of potential immigrants by much, so unless there is a big increase in asylum seekers SPM is making a mountain out of a molehill.

Australia started out as an English penal colony, for crying out loud. What's bad about third worlders immigrating to these nations today? Not a thing, I tell you. College is an expensive proposition for everyone regardless of background, yet it's increasingly needed to earn a good living in the western world today. That should be our concern, not how many dark-skinned people immigrate. That is, unless you're just a whiny racist who would love the opportunity to don a white sheet.

 

The third world immigrants take up far more of the welfare (percentage wise) which isnt surprising considering the post industrial age unlike at the start of building a nation! Education and language are far more important these days. To call people racist for not wanting to become minorities in their own countries is ridiculous, i cant imagine any country welcoming that. If you want less white people in the West say so and give a reason for it. Should Japan, china, India ect embark on this mass immigration and multiculturalism or is it ok for them? Myself im happy to have people from all around the world but.... do so without dramatically changing the demographics and only if its good for the economy.

Those taken to off shore processing places were/are those who try to jump the queue by sneaking into Australia by boat, via people smugglers. Many of these boat people are Sri Lankans who don't have refugee status.

I guess if you had a large immigrant population, and they had many more children than the natives, then sure, as long as that went on and on, and nothing altered it, then I suppose you could end up like that. Not saying that is what will happen, or that it is even likely, just that it could.

In the case of Oz, not that I wish it any will, but if it were 'colonised' by outsiders to begin with, I dunno, maybe you cannot be so free to them condemn being colonised, in turn, albeit I would not use that strong a term.
