Hard to tell since they don't keep track of that number but I know of many that this has happened too and cleared later. The system is a mess and very few people are ever prosecuted for trying to buy a gun illegally.

So do you have any solutions to the issues?

Well, one of the problems is funding. I think they receive about 1/10th of what is slated for them to operate. Right now I don't think that will change. Universal background checks will just exacerbate the problem.

But they CAN'T still get them, that's the point. When assault weapons cease to be sold to civilians and illegal assault weapons are confiscated, it will eventually be impossible for someone to access an assault weapon even by illegal means.

For example, how would someone in Australia get an assault weapon? By raiding a military base? Making it from scratch themselves?
The answer is that you simply can't access them - no one has them in their homes, they aren't manufactured in Australia and they're only imported for the military. It is literally near impossible for the average citizen to get an assault weapon in Australia.

I see. You make an unfounded implication and I should be the one to prove your unfounded implication to be false. Fine, here you go:

So there you have it. The NRA was instrumental in getting NICS passed. In '08 they referred to the legislation instituting the NICS as "a good bill". Then just two months ago you have the NRA pushing the Vice President to enforce the bill. Satisfied? This information is readily available on the NRA website. Why didn't you bother looking there before making asinine insinuations that they no longer support the NICS?

Now, man up and present your evidence or admit that you're talking out of your ass.

Ayuh,... The Idea of the system is to catch Criminals,...
So explain Why none of those 1.8 million rejections haven't lead to prosecutions, or convictions,..??

If the government refuses to prosecute violations to current laws, what good are more laws that infringe on the rights of legal tax payin' Citizens,..??

More laws are not the answer, until it's proven that the current laws don't work...
'n of course, No law works if never Enforced...

And it makes the assumption that being denied through the official system results in a gun free criminal.

Compared to the political flatulence coming from the Left on this issue?

Rest assured, Nanny State Mike won't be stopped there. He's also eminently aware, as well as Comrade Barack is, of Chairman Mao's quote that "All power emanates from the barrel of a gun" Just remember "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely". No better example of that to see anywhere than our very own Narcissist In Chief. Comrade Barack won't be happy until he's got all your guns and 95 per cent of your paychecks.

Too many people have died, even senselessly. The road ahead for overly-casual proliferation of guns in this society, will get bumpier and bumpier.

Things are changing, as they should have long ago.

    Welcome to 2013.

Doesn't your occupation entail killing people...with guns? When you give up yours, I'll give up mine.

There is no such thing as "assualt weapons ban". It's just a long list of guns that liberals want to punish people for owning or selling.

I have the duty of defending this nation. I have the potential to kill (as ordered); yet I don't advocate murder, killing or war. Can YOU understand the nuanced values in what I have shared above?

And no, I did not suggest that you must give up your weapons. If that's what you get from all I have posted, I'd just say that you were mistaken. I don't mind you disagreeing with my views/positions, but please try to get it right.

Governments disarming their citizens isn't an idea that has just come around... it has been idea for thousands of years to insure the protection of the ruling power. It has never been for safety or "for the children!" it has always remained as a way to push for more aggressive anti-liberty laws/stances.

I'm just going by your past statements. I just find it odd that a person whose job it is to kill people when ordered wants to complain about people having guns that don't go around killing people even if ordered to.

I'm not willing to kill people just because someone else tells me to. IMO, a firearm is safer in my hands than in yours, yet you think that you should be allowed to use weapons that I shouldn't. It's a backwards state of affairs.

There is no reason to oppose anybody having a gun. Anybody that gets shot by a gun is probably either asking for trouble or has shot themselves and said it was somebody else. Guns are what's gud. Here's a little song that everybody should read and then they will love guns more. Let's all sing it together and it's sung to the tune of 'god bless america'.

    The NRA Song

Guns are neat, Guns are sweet
Guns the tool, what makes you cool.
Guns are fine, Guns are mine
Guns are things, that Jesus brings!

Guns for loonies, Guns for cons
Guns for Moonies, Guns for moms!

Guns are fun for everyone, buy them up by the ton.
Guns for me, Guns for you, Guns for nuts and children too!
Guns at home, Guns at work, Guns at play, Guns berserk!

Tons and tons of great big Guns,
Are tons and tons of great big fun!

I’ve got Guns up my nose ‘tween my ears and by my toes.
I’m no fool, I’m so cool, I take Guns to my school.
I take Guns in my car, to the store and to the bar.
I got Guns in a drawer, in my pocket and on the floor.
I got Guns on the wall, behind the toilet and in the hall.

I got guns in my bed, one is growing from my head!
Get a Gun and get it fast, Gun-Gun shoot-shoot is a blast!

Things are changing...What we are witnessing is the death quivers of the lefts gun grabbing schemes...We are more likely to see CC reciprocity than we are to see any of the wackier proposals of the left become law.

I'd say that is paranoia talking. The laws must change and this nation has put it off for far too long.

    We'll see.

The laws have been changing for some time now. You just don't like the direction that they've taken. Oh, well. Be prepared for more of that type of change. Welcome to the real world of 2013. :)

    Yep.

You're right; but it's not only that. That is, there is more to my positions than mere 'liking' or 'not liking'. We may disagree about the reasons for my passion on the matter... but I can assure you, that as a fellow American mine is as heartfelt and serious as yours.

I will fight to move the laws in a direction I believe is best for our nation.

Indeed. You also should regard the same.

The 2nd Amendment has been incorporated. CCW has spread like wildfire. The gun control lobby has lost all credibility and pull. I'm content with the way the wind is blowing. Change I can believe in!

Me too! Us on the outside looking in view the shootings we read about now as a form of entertainment. Much more real than going to a violent movie and watching the slaughter of human beings faked.

The NRA supported the bill that created NCIS.

Question: Do you want just anybody to be able to do a background check? There are two possibilities for universal background check. One is similar to what some states have in place today, all gun purchases have to go through federally licensed gun dealers. The other possibility is to give everybody access to the NICS. The first basically makes it so gun dealers have a monopoly on the market, and they can pretty much charge what they want to transfer firearms. The second gives access to much information about the public to everybody who wants it. Neither of those options sounds good to me.

This is a link to a letter sent to the U.S. Senate by the NRA in February 2013. I'll quote the relevant passage in which they support NICS.

The gungooons are right, there's no point banning assault weapons. What needs to be done is that any time somebody tries to buy an assault type weapon (black, military style appearance, large magazine capability, etc.) the police should be immediately notified. The potential buyer should be arrested, jailed, and then taken to an insane asylum where he can be evaluated as to him being a danger to society.

No really, that's an exaggeration but it gets the point across. Some gungoon wanting to buy such a weapon has got to have bad intentions running aroun in his head. And I include under the heading of bad intentions, the fantasy they have of needing to protect themselves against their country!

There are far more deaths from vehicle accidents than people killing people with firearms. Therefore, cargoons buying a car have bad intentions by your definition.
