Singapore Hong Kong Malaysia Kenya Ghana Belize Namibia Botswana So which of these nations are suffering from the effects of imperial rule?
Ask the native aborigines if they've been treated fairly by the European immigrants to Australia. Ask the native Polynesians (the Māori culture) if they've been treated fairly but the European immigrants to New Zealand. Ask the Native-Americans in Canada if they've been treated fairly by the European immigrants to their land. In all cases of European immigration and colonialization the Rights of the indigenous people were violated and never were full reparations made to these people. The "civil rights" of the native populations were grossly violated and virtually nothing has been done to redress this fundamental grievance. In all cases colonialism was based upon tyranny and tyranny creates a poor foundation for the future of any political state. In the case of Haiti the problem is even worse. First the Spanish oppressed the native islanders that had settle Haiti by immigrating from S America and then Africans were kidnapped and brought as slaves to work the plantations.
Sorry it is considered rude to move the goalposts in a debate - The comment I responded to was Two of the former colonies on my list are members of the G20. You want to go on a human rights rant, first educate yourself about the real situations in some of the countries you want to attack.
Bermuda Bahamas Jamaica(?) Brit Virgin Islands & most/all of the Carribean Islands (including French ones) Caymans T&T pretty sure all without massacres.
why is it still a backwater? the answer is simple but the solution is not Foreign private capital will not invest in the country
They are not former colonies though, thats a small but important detail you missed out. - - - Updated - - - Iwas going to mention crony capitalism, is the reason australia and NZ are doing well, aka white tribalism. Its not hard to figure out.
Yes it was a colony or to be precise; a number of colonies which were later formed into a federation upon achieving dominion status. What made you think otherwise?
Yes. When a colony becomes a dominion it gains full domestic autonomy and is responsible for it's own government and law. Australia is no longer a colony nor a dominion of the UK so what are you trying to say?
No. If you go and look at the constitution of Australia you'll find that it is not subject to the UK and has no obligation to it. In fact there were a number of constitutional amendments which transformed the dominion of Australia to an independent nation the last of which was in 1986. The flag which you've posted is irrelevant to it's legal status.
In this context the descendants of the colonizers are the ruling party and the majority population. Thats the whole point but in all fairness, you may continue arguing some irrelevant issue or another as is the way on this forum. Continue arguing............
I'm sorry but that's not the definition of a colony. J0NAH if you're going to make an argument then do it properly and actually research the subject in detail. Now everyone makes mistakes which I think everyone can accept so you don't have to be defensive about this.
I believe that Haiti suffers greatly due to it's poor economy which has forced it to deplete itself of many of it's natural resources such as wood for example. And it's 9 million strong population also puts pressure on the economy. Coupled that with years of tyrannical government and natural disasters such as earthquakes which hasn't helped at all.
The issue? This a thread about why Haiti has the problems that it does and you decide to derail it by saying that Australia is still a colony which has been blatantly proven to be an unfounded notion.
Dont worry about it, you wont be able to understand everything in life, dont let it frustrate you. Get on with your life and live healthy. Eat the right foods and respect others, dont judge. Play sports, that is very important, not whether or not australia is a british colony or not.
Oh grow up. If I was that compassionate I'd feel sorry for you. .Poor education. Not to mention bad spelling and grammar. .Immaturity .Probably middle aged and already passed it And your only satisfaction is to annoy strangers on the internet. A sad and wasteful testament to the plight that is banality.
