The only thing is they don't say why they disapprove of Obama. What I have heard is they are mad because Obama hasn't delivered enough.

I do think Republicans have to move more center. Especially on abortion. They need to realize there are some legitimate reasons for abortion. Only one, or maybe two for late term abortion though. It shouldn't be that hard for both sides to compromise on this.

I think Republicans could move some on taxing the rich more. Not nearly as much as Democrats want though.

I think some movement on just those two issues, would go a long way in helping the GOP.

Agree on abortion. But why do republicans need to compromise at all on taxes?

I'd have to disagree. Many of us prefer fiscal conservatism, but are socially progressive. It's just that we differ in where we should be fiscally conservative. I prefer our money be spent on our citizens rather than supporting a bloated military and corporate welfare. A restructured tax systems that is less disabling to the middle class and more punitive to corporations sending jobs over seas.

No. Anyone who believes that "life" starts at conception,
and that therefore all abortion and many contraception should be outlawed, needs to change their position,
as that is just a whole bunch of silliness, which is inconsistent with facts and reasonable logic,
...thought that's not to say that the whole ban gays and gay marriage movement isn't just as silly.

I agree. But it's just as crazy to think a woman should have the right to abort right up to the time of birth. There is really only one reason to have a late term abortion and that is to save the life of the mother. All other reasons could be made weeks, if not months earlier.

To answer your responses to my last three posts, your “Marine1“ screen name shows you are a perfect example of an ill-informed conservative/neoconservative. If you are, or were a Marine, you are well trained in hatred and the need to be told how and what to think and believe.

You blindly defend right wing policies using history rewritten by the Republican Party, FOX News, and other such sources of propaganda, which is typical of the conservatives and neoconservatives.

As I mentioned in a previous post, you are one of those that desperately clings to the obsolete agenda of the right wing. Like the dinosaurs, yours, and the rest of the right-wingers’ inability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment has doomed you. In this instance, the rapidly changing human environment.

Sadly, it is this very inability to adapt that makes three decades of failed, worn out policies based on Reaganomics, and your archaic right wing ideologies laughable, and irrelevant to the United States of the twenty first century.

I agree, abortion, if it is to happen, should be done as early as possible. I don't believe anyone should be up in arms when abortion occurs before the start of mental life (period between when pain can be perceived and detection of consistent brain waves) and like you I don't think unlimited abortion rights up 'till birth makes any sense either. I believe that after viability is reached, the only reasons a woman should have for aborting should be a significant risk to her life, a severe defect in the child, or the late-term pregnancy being caused by circumstances which were out of her control.

We are at total agreement there. Now if we could get the nuts on both sides to agree.

it makes me wonder how many liberals you actually know that you have such a pathetic stereotypical view of them.
i'm a proud liberal and i've worked ever since I was 12 years old.
i'm 34 now, mortgage, wife/kids - never taken a penny from welfare or anything like that.
your view is what makes you feel better about yourself - it prevents you from realizing that maybe liberals aren't all pot smoking hippies and inner city blacks

this sums my views up very well as well
the older conservatives don't understand that us younger people are very fiscally conservative
if only they'd ditch their social conservatism, the GOP would gain popularity
but right now, the Tea Party is the home of ignorance and they've taken over the GOP

That cannot be had in any meaningful sense in a society which disdains God-centered morality.

The far left will ensure that the far right stays in place. There has to be an offsetting wacko right wing contingent to balance out the oppressive extreme control freak leftist contingent.

The GOP is on its way to dominating the U.S. government again after we have seen what a disaster Democrat control brings. You would think we would remember what Jimmy Carter did to us and reject a guy who basically mimicked him in most ways, but we just don't seem to be that smart anymore. Perhaps it is a by product of our slipping education system (also decimated by leftists).

Funny thread. When the alleged "right", or basically those that understand how this country was created and built, allegedly go by the wayside, then the progressives can create their totalitarian society they so long for. After all, the OP and progressivism is based on the idea that a few elitists are smarter than the masses so should dictate what they can do. Slavery, Jim Crow, and current progressive policies on education, “welfare” and taxation are all based on the belief that they are superior to, and thus entitled to run the lives of, their inferiors. Pure progressivism.

Actually your position is the illogical one. Human life obviously begins at conception, even science agrees with that truth!
The beginning of every human being's life is conception. That is scientific fact.

It is in the process of doing that; and while that may indeed increase its popularity with the selfish and short-sighted, it will surely achieve the opposite among those who understand what has made this country, at least until recently, a beacon of liberty.

So when does "mental life" begin precisely in every single human being conceived on the planet? What second of what hour of what day in the growth of the child in utero? The problem with your position is that it logically backs into supporting your foregone conclusion that abortion should be allowed. Start from scratch with no pre conceived notions and you arrive at a staunch pro life position every time.

The statement is of a general principle which applies whether the underlined is true or not; but that aside, anyone who thinks the American electorate has not become increasingly disdainful of God-centered morality isn't paying attention.

There was a Pew Study in 2007 that says only 4% of the US population is atheist or agnostic. Another 12% were listed as non-affiliated, which does not necessarily mean they are disdainful of God-centered morality. So, do you have data that supports your view, or did you just express your uninformed opinion?

The left needs to understand that the religious right is not unsubstantial in numbers and in money. While I do not agree with most of their positions on social issues, they ain't going away anytime soon.

Have you considered that the far left business model does the same thing?

Agreed. I'm quite liberal on social issues, but not so on fiscal matters. I'll be 60 in a few weeks. Worked for 35 years for one employer, retired and am starting out on another, albeit probably short, career. I've always worked, paid my taxes and had my own insurance. I raised my kids to be kind and fair adults. Paid for their college education. I've been married for 38 years to the same woman. My immediate and extended family is close and caring. I don't drink and I don't smoke. In marine1's view, I sure sound like a conservative, don't I?

On the social side, I'm an atheist, but anti-abortion and anti-death penalty. I believe everyone should have equal rights, privileges and protection under the law. That means I'm for gay marriage. So, I'm labeled some sort of socialist by many people on forums dominated by right wingers.
