Mental life, as defined in the quote, begins sometime subsequent to the 20th week. There is no evidence to suggest it ever begins any sooner than that, and only a theory that perception of pain may be perceivable between 20-24 weeks. Show us. -Meta
Sorry pal. I haven't found the capacity to hate anything. Especially myths and fables. And thank you for giving me the attention you state I don't merit. I expect it to continue.
How long did it take and how many deaths did we incur to obtain those rights in the first place? On paper, blacks got the right to vote in the 1860s, after a civil war, but didn't actually see most of that come to fruition for another hundred years. What you would like us to believe, one of the big right wing lies, is that progressives, because we identify with the Democratic Party today, were responsible. Nothing could be more untrue. It was the conservative mindset that drove, and continues the drive, to suppress the vote for certain citizens. Label it with whatever party name associated with that movement you wish, but it's the mentality of those who would disenfranchise specific groups of Americans. Today's label is the extreme wing of the Republican Party, who have hijacked that party for the time being. If you wish to be associated with that faction, so be it. The women's suffrage movement is well-documented and we'll be celebrating their 100 year anniversary soon. About 150 years too late. BTW, when you state there's no end to the ignorance of history, with your posts, you are direct proof of that.
Yeah, Idaho ranks at the bottom in wages and near the bottom in per-pupil spending. We lead the nation in minimum wage jobs. We rank about 47 in college enrollment after high school. I believe the last state in the nation to have it's own suicide prevention hot line. Another metric from http://www.citizen.org/medicaid indicates we have possibly the worst Medicaid system in the country. The bottom line, social programs or not, is that THIS conservative state can't pay its own way and has a disregard for many of its own citizens. That seems to be the conservative way these days. But by golly, we just passed a law allowing concealed weapons carry on campuses. We passed a constitutional amendment making it a right to trap animals. We depend on blue states to fund our state. Our legislature, in lockstep with the malformed US House of Representatives, tried it's best to nullify the ACA. We recently had a legislator trying to nullify the EPA itself. THAT'S the mindset of today's conservative movement.
Simple, there is no evidence of it if one goes by the definition Marine1 and I were using for mental life. There is not even so much as a scientific theory as to how such mental life could even manifest itself at that stage in development. Studies of fetuses have shown that the structures necessary for pain perception and consistent brain activity aren't functional prior to 20 weeks. -Meta
LOL, it was the same progressive ideology of elitists thinking that is still present today that believes that the elite can tell others what is right and how they should live their lives.
The extreme conservative movement these days deserves not only my insults, but my derision. If you identify with that group, it's your choice. - - - Updated - - - Koch brothers? The religious right? Yep. Those elitists.
You mentioned elitists, I gave you a couple. It's that they aren't progressive elitists that puts a burr under your saddle. Now, tell us about the religious right elitists telling us how we should live our lives. Who we should and should not marry. Who we should or should not serve. Who tell their own employees that they won't cover certain medical procedures because they aren't of the same religious convictions. All social conservative elitists telling the rest of us what is morally right and morally wrong.
The religious right are no different than progressives. The want to use government force to implement their own ideology of utopia. Progressives are no different than any authoritarian.
I love Idaho. If you don't, you can move back to whatever the hell blue state you came from and take your "Blue Girl Red State" bumper sticker with you.
It shows that the thalamic structures necessary for pain perception and general consciousness aren't present in fetuses prior to 20 weeks. Do you have evidence suggesting that the study is wrong? -Meta
You're no pal of mine. Far be it from the y-man to gainsay the ability of the stereotypical atheist to bury his hatred of God under so many layers of lies that he can't "find" it any more. Which has nothing to do with anything I said, obviously. Bad try. Oh, it will - at least until you start to bore me, which, seeing you appear to have nothing new to say, I estimate you will achieve before we've exchanged another half-dozen posts.
Well, you nailed one of the reasons we're last in the nation in wages. I did discover one thing we're number one in. Billbug infestations. At least this conservative state is number one in something!
i did read it and it doesnt say anything about "general consciousness." it only talks about response to noxious stimuli.
