This is like a Soviet trying to discuss George Washington as I see it.

Joseph was a teen when this all started. For we Mormons to accept him as a prophet, means we studied the doctrine, his life and know a lot about Joseph. Some claim he started polygamy. I do not accept that. Brigham Young, was the president when that happened.

Would you have the married women and their children whose husbands died on the way to the Great Salt Lake Valley not have a husband? Some of you forget the women came with children for the men to take care of.

Sexism, a topic brought to us by an unfriendly sort of the LDS church. No person wanting friendship tells us we are sexist and we may just not understand sexism.

So, and this is for ME only, not our church, but suppose this is sexism

Defend your view that women can't have roles that men don't do and vice versa?

Actually our belief on that is dead people currently reside in a place called the spirit world. This world is divided between spirit prison and paradise. There the dead are taught the Gospel, and have the choice whether or not to except the proxy work done for them on earth. If they don't accept it, no big deal, that's their choice. If they do, well that is also their choice. There is actually a couple of scriptures in the Bible that talk about missionary work for the dead. You are welcome to check them out: 1 Peter 3:18-19; 1 Peter 4:6. There is also a scripture in Corinthians where Paul alludes to baptisms for the dead while speaking of resurrection: 1 Corinthians 15:29. So do I think it is ethical, absolutely. Great question thanks for asking. :)

As usual, incoherent ramblings having nothing to do with the topic......when you can actually stop posting about yourself(seems to be your favorite topic) you may be able to address the real topic

No, I didn't convert from another faith. I was baptized when I was 8 years old. Most of my family are active members of the church. :)

He actually has a point here. Do you think gender specific organizations are sexist? What about fraternities, or sororities, are they sexist for only allowing females or males? What about the Free Masons? What about various clubs that exist only for men or women? Is the NFL sexist because women don't play football there, or are other all male or all female sports teams sexist? Before you go off accusing religions of being sexist, take a good long look around at the many many other organizations our there that are only for males or females.

Your topic seems to be denigration without foundation.
Men and women are better suited for different duties. Please lay your argument as to that not being the case in this world.
    Furthermore,references are a must.
There was nothing incoherent about that post. The incoherence resides in you.

Imo the dogma of baptizng the dead appears to be an elaborate convolution of the scriptures that you reference. But my question is a bit broader

It seems to me... Albeit from limited knowledge... That lds dogma and doctrine features innumerable similar examples that appear stupendously improbable Things such as the special underwear, or the gold plates getting burried in north america, the various tribes of jews, etc etc etc Essentially the entire founding story seems ludicrous and extremely unbelievable from the perspective of an uninvolved outside observer
And, as such, it is difficult to see how modern day church members could sign on to what seems irrational

    Btw...
I admire mormons as people and also their community. But just do not see how sensible people could buy in to the story that the church is based upon

It is also possible you see sexism in everything. No matter what.
And guess what, there is a difference between sexes.

Suppose they felt when they died they had no unfinished business and you went in and ruined their afterlife?

I can absolutely see where you are coming from. Unfortunately, it seems there are far more sources of misinformation out there than actual facts about our beliefs. From an outside perspective, I can definitely see us view as a bit eccentric to put it nicely. :) Please allow me to give you some good information about how the story goes. I will try to be as brief as I can. So it actually starts about 600 BC, shortly before Jerusalem was destroyed. A family from the tribe of Manasseh is lead out of Jerusalem by God. They traveled to the ocean and camped for a while. God revealed to them where to find ore to use to create tools, and also showed them a ship design to build. They traveled across the ocean and landed on the Americas. Over time, two civilizations developed one of which was more consistently religious in following the law of Moses than the other. This civilization is referred to as the Nephites in their records. Some of their records and religious writings were compiled into a codex of Gold Plates entitled The Book of Mormon. During the last war recorded, a prophet historian named Moroni writes in the plates and records the entire destruction of his people. He is able to avoid death by the opposing civilization and makes his way into what is now the New England area of the United States. He hides the records in a hill he calls Cumorah inside a stone box, along with other assorted objects. Fast forward to the early 1800's in Palmyra, New York. A young 14 year old Joseph Smith attends many different churches in an attempt to find truth. He is one day reading in James 1:5-6 which tells him to ask God for wisdom if he has none, and that God will answer him. He ponders the scripture for quite some time before determining to test it out. He goes to a grove of trees nearby his home and prays to know which church was Christ's church. He has a vision in which he sees God, and Jesus Christ. They tell him that none of the churches is theirs, but that they will soon reorganize their church on the earth. They tell him not to join any of the churches, but to wait for further instructions. Later Joseph is again praying for guidance when he is visited by a now resurrected Moroni. He was the guy that hid the plates earlier. Moroni tells him God has a work for him to do, and reveals the location of the plates to him. Joseph will later go and to the location and find the plates. As he does so, Moroni again appears to him and instructs him to come back to the same place for four years to be taught. Joseph does so and in the final year, Moroni allows him to take the plates to begin translating them into English. He begins translating the plates and as a result of the truths he finds there, is able to receive further instruction from God. Ultimately, it leads to the organization of the church on April 6, 1830. Still hard to believe, I know, but a little more believable I think than many of the stories you hear about it. Here is a video that is great at explaining the story of Joseph Smith, feel free to watch:

Very sorry, I did indeed miss it. Sorry about that.

Okay, do Mormons have the latest revelation from God? Absolutely. We believe in current revelation, by living servants of God.

Does that make previous revelations obsolete? Such as the book of revelations in the bible? Not necessarily. However, just as there are things in the New Testament that now take precedence over others in the Old Testament, so too can newer revelation take precedence.

Or does that make Mohammads revelation from God for Islam obsolete? Having read the Quran myself, I do not feel that it is an inspired book. I also personally do not believe that Mohammad was a prophet of God. So by extension I don't believe that Mohammad had any revelation for anyone other than himself. So yes, modern revelation takes precedence. Thanks for the questions. :)

Asimov created Scientology from science fiction, Smith created Mormanism from fiction as well.

There is a very good reason women don't play in the NFL, they don't qualify. They are just too small to play.

But in a religion, unless you have a physical test of strength, there is NO reason to divide the sexes....the only reason religions do this is to treat women as "less than" men.

If it wasn't you wouldn't be so defensive about it :)

Yes, clubs/groups that exist only for one gender are sexist.

Fox, I do apologize to you. I figured you would be smart enough to figure out why I said all of my commentary.

Any questions you may have, I shall do my best to find a way to communicate to you.

In a religion how are duties determined by whether a person has a penis or a vagina???

Why are women always "suited" for lesser duties?

We have a lot of extremely intelligent men and women in the church. I am sure if your concerns were true, they would have informed us.

Again, i am so sorry you did not understand the comments I made. What part of my life offends you? The part where I told of fine women?

You are all alone in your insults to me. The other posters told you that you are wrong.

Aren't you being sexist in declaring women are not fit to play in the NFL?

It has been explained to you that our women do not see things as you propose they see them.

We do not brainwash the women. We respect women enormously. We see them as extremely vital to both the church and their family.

How interesting. How long were you a Mormon and how long were you a member of Scientology?

What do you perceive as a "lesser duty"? I have repeatedly explained that there is no position higher than another. Leadership positions are not status symbols, they don't make a person higher than another person. If you are referring to priesthood duties, women in the church actually perform priesthood duties in the temple. I am somewhat confused as to what else you could be referring to. Please give some specific examples.
