I posted my experience with marijuana. I’m not going to retract anything. It’s not nonsensical; it’s true.

You may not like what I had to say, or you may not even believe it. I’ll leave that up to you.

Nobody is saying your experience didn't happen. It's the fact that you hold beliefs about something that happened when you were a kid that is disturbing. You seem highly inflexible. Much has been learned in the last 50 years, in just about every aspect of the world as we knew it then/know it now. It was a half-century ago; there is a whole world of new data that you've missed. Just sayin'.

I have no desire to use drugs or hang around people that do. Call me inflexible, crazy, or a prude. I don’t care.

That's fine. You know plenty of pot smokers, though. You wouldn't know because they have jobs, homes & kids. They do charity work and help create stronger communities. They, in every way, are contributing members of society. You know lots of them. They just don't talk about it because they know you are prudish and judgmental.

    Yes exactly.

Seems even in the muslim world, interpretation of scripture and religious law can vary depending on culture or school.

And nobody should care that you don't have that desire. Another person might call that a "principled" choice.

So true.. and trying to convince a user that it is harmful is about as likely as convincing a functioning alcoholic that THEIR boozing has no deleterious effects.
I'd suggest a little experiment with all dope smokers, ingest none of it for about three months and then decide if it does or does not effect you in a negative manner.
I smoked all sorts and strengths of pot (and that new stuff they sell is hardly "pot" being that it has so much THC and very little cannabinoids (the medicinal part of marijuana)), and I smoked it for over 40 years, at times smoking it like some people smoke cigarettes (I'm on the border.. so it was actually cheaper than cigarettes, tho' I smoked both) and decided to quit for 3 months to see if my opinion of pot was the pot talking or myself...
fallen off the wagon a couple of times in the last 5 years (just a couple of hits!) and regretted having to spend another couple of month for the effects to completely fade.
I think it is not convincing to argue the influence of pot while underthe influence of pot, silly to think anyone should take you seriously.. think about all the times drunk people told you that they are really "not that drunk"

Evidently, my lack of desire for drugs has rubbed some people the wrong way here.

Yes, I'm judgmental. I look at situations and make sound judgments. That's what adults do.

No. Not for certain. Texan. Republican. Judgemental. Unbending in opinions developed 1/2 century ago. The math works but I have no proof

So why are you quoting the Bible to him?

I was raised a judgmental Republican, Catholic, homophobic racist, so I recognize the signs, but it's entirely possible that Texas Republican is a Muslim. (Or atheist/agnostic.) It doesn't seem to fit, but perhaps....

Even if you knew that he is a Christian, why did you quote the Bible to him?

Whether or not the hypocrite recognizes their actions is irrelevant. I point it out, regardless. I look to correct hypocrisy in myself whenever I discover it, so I always appreciate it pointed out to me. It causes me to reflect and ponder; perhaps adjust, as I often do. My primary goal, always, is to learn and grow. To do otherwise, is to slowly die.

So, I am doing unto others as I would have done to me.

Being judgemental does not mean being judgemental of people.

That's what Texas Republican meant, and you know it.

Look at it this way. It is human to judge instantly based on whatever criteria hits us with the most impact at any given time.

Humans are also deeply flawed, and our brains, quite often, put the patterns together in a false way. Our brains trick us, all the time. This is science, not conjecture.

We need to build on our strengths, but we also must be diligent with our weaknesses, lest we love and hate for the wrong reasons. I rarely trust my instinctual first impression, because the science says we get it wrong a lot of the time. So, I may make a comment with an opinion before any facts come in. As new facts come in, my thinking changes, but then ever more facts come in. Rinse. Repeat. Etc.

My initial impression of Trump (back to the 80's,) was a mediocre one.
My impression when he announced, coming down that escalator: pomposity
My impression when he first started to discuss issues: Quite impressive

I'm not going to take you through every twist in my thinking, but it's merely to demonstrate that humans have the ability to constantly re-assess information, so we can grow.

I see nothing wrong in my approach. I've been message boarding for 15 ish years. I've been kicked out of both right & left wing leaning forums, for not doing enough group-think. When I see group-think mentality, I point it out. That is why I am here; to post my opinions. Why are you here?
