Again, McConnell is the majority leader, and he's the one that has refused to include Democrats in negotiations over this and all other major issues.

The demand has been that Democrats and Republicans cede legislative power to the president.

Look, listen to Democrats and they hold the keys to all the answers. That is total poppycock.

McConnell has not blocked Trump. Do you believe presidents should have the veto authority removed?

These issues were addressed in the bipartisan immigration reform bill of 2013.

That bill passed the Senate and was backed by Rubio (who was on the committee) as well as other Republican Senators at a time wheen Republicans could have required cloture.

That bill, along with analysis by various groups, is available to read.

It's true that Democrats could simply concede this and other decisions to the president.

That's not how our government is supposed to work.

We have a president and a legislature. We are not a dictatorship. We have a legislature designed by our founders as a place where our representatives may negotiate to include the issues of Americans.

You’re assuming what, illegals will suddenly be put to a halt with a stoooopid wall ? The Vast majority are visa over stays. Mexicans are leaving faster then they are coming in. It’s a cancard. Everything you're saying is baseless. We’ve already established you don’t pay attention to everyone who is actually responsible for hone land security. The shut down cost is up to 3 billion already thanks to Trump.

McConnell hasn't done anything at all.

I do believe that the president should not be allowed to shut down our government - holding the American people hostage to a demand that the legislature do his bidding.

Our process DOES allow the president limited veto power over bills passed by the legislature.

What about the employees nationwide needed to keep track of them. besides they are easier to defeat than even a chain link fence.

Geesus criminey. Billions more on payroll when a good border protecting fencing system handles almost all of the problem.

When it pleases Schumer, how can it be called BiPartisan?

That term means nothing to me.

The fact is that proposed law is not part of our law.

Where we went wrong years back is deciding that it is okay for illegals to live in this country. We warned Democrats that when they ignored the legal lines who did the legal things to be in line it was going to cause trouble.

Such as allowing border jumpers to get privilege above the people already in line still in Mexico.

Reading that law is akin to reading how to make bank robbery legal for bank robbers.

I'll repeat the VISA overstay issue.

Of course the first timers come in on a VISA then over stay. When we deport a visa overstay or a criminal alien, the only way back in is across the open border. The guy in San Francisco who killed Kate Steinle was deported and came back 5 times, the guy in Nevada or Utah who killed Sheriff's Deputies was deported 8 times and came back. The wall cuts off the route for deportees to return. Then there's the cost of doing nothing.........

If they are coming here just for work, they will abide by most of our laws and never come in contact with the law. That means the good hard working people stay and the illegal criminal element gets tossed out and will play hades to get back in. I guess this just makes too much sense for the left.

When I put in a prodigious amount of time serving on various committees, we had a saying.

A camel is a horse designed by a committee.

Not at all. Let's develop an intelligent, well thought out, properly researched plan for border security, and not something simplistic, without thought, that Trump demands to satisfy his undying vanity and ego, an expensive shot in the dark that may not work.

You can have all the fences you want....where ever the experts say. But he needs to justify them before he gets money. That’s a foreign concept for Trump. Trump offered an unlimited amount to NASA to get us to Mars by the end if his first term....that’s to get re-elected. This is the fool Trump supports follow. He claims to be the expert in everything. Six bankruptcies prove he’s FOS.

The problem with Republicans in everything is, they are supply siders. It never occurs to them to fix a problem at the root and deal with demand. That’s why they have recessions and bigger deficits and are not good problem solvers in immigration and drugs. . Thoughts and prayers is their solution for the working poor. Facts to them are whatever Trump pulls out of his asteroid.

Why would you Oppose a wall on our Border? Lets find out.
First of all, for the last three decades there's been a gradual decrease in the number of illegals crossing into the U.S. along the southern border. During the last couple of years of Obama's administration we reached the lowest point on that decrease. Under Trump it's begun to climb a bit, but is still very low. There's no real crisis in illegal immigrants entering the U.S. right now. Our existing border security system is working, but needs upgrading some, especially electronically. A smart border security system would be superior to any structural wall over most of our border with Mexico--cheaper too.

Mexico is a long-term, large trading partner with the U.S., and deserves our respect & patience as good neighbors. Building a wall under the current extreme emotional conditions would damage that relationship & hurt many more Americans than it would help regarding illegals. An extended wall is a bad idea for Mexican-American relations, and that's more important than any issues with illegals.

Walls not only block illegals from entry, they block the natural flow of wildlife species as well, and can lead to damage to those species not foreseen by wall advocates focused on illegals and nothing more. Walls impact more than just illegal aliens, and cause new problems not yet seen or anticipated by wall supporters. The wall is neither needed or a good idea.

Let's see, some of the factors are left off your scenario.
The unmitigated greed of pharmaceutical companies and the hand-in-hand cooperation of some of the medical community.
Also, what happened to the mantra of the so-called "right-wingers" of individual responsibility, for those hooked on pharmaceuticals? I get it, the crisis is about the white community so it is a problem now.
    No market, no profit.
    Right?
If you want to stop the problem for addiction and the supply side. Stop the problem where the roots are.

Republicans are not necessarily supply-siders. There are many moderate Republicans who kind of lean that way but also have common sense. True conservatives are supply-siders in that they have a "Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead" mentality. This Trump base are whatever Trump wants them to be. For some reason, they admire the guy and think that he is a brilliant businessman and negotiator. None of them did their due diligence on Trump before the campaign and fell for his con hook, line, and sinker.

Consumers are not bank robbers. They are your fellow citizens and need your help. You said that you were all willing to pay more for products due to tariffs so that middle-class Americans can get pay increases and jobs and of course never considered the downside as companies began leaving, and the possibility of huge price increases around the corner that will affect your pockets big time.

Running the boarder doesn't even address HALF the issue of how people come and stay illegally.

So, when you suggest it handles "almost all of the problem" I just have to wonder where you've been.

And, your "we warned Democrats" is ridiculous, too. It was under a Democratic president and a Democratic majority Senate that the bipartisan immigration reform bill was passed. And, that included $44B for the southern border, jobs protection to help at home and discourage new arrivals, and a visa system overhaul to address how the ACTUAL majority have come.

Not even close. How do you know what I plan to do? You're making an assumption based on your concept of anyone who doesn't echo your thoughts. At best, that's stereotyping, but it also suggests a lack of thought.

Labeling people as criminals for what is at it's core a simple policy violation sets the stage for tagging on all kinds of ridiculous notions about illegal immigrants. To help with that, politicians and pundits pound the public at every chance to portray those coming into this country as gang members, rapists, murderers, and any other kind of negative attribute possible. It's nothing more than elementary propaganda. That allows people to equate some harmless immigrant with a bank robber.
