We had very positive culture in the 1950's. That is my base for comparison. I'm not saying that life isn't good in the U.S. It is. I'm not suggesting that violence is rampant in my neck of the woods. Life is fine. It is culture that is in trouble. We have replaced conversation with texting. We insult people who disagree with us politically. We replace inconvenient common sense with political correctness. We lack discipline. We replace healthy competition with a fear of winning or losing. We can't take tooth paste aboard an airplane. I won't go on. Suffice it to say that our culture is sick. Gun violence is a symptom of it. I'm grateful for the quality of life we have in the U.S. but I would prefer the culture we enjoyed in the '50's.

 

But it is off topic. I was talking about culture and he is talking about quality of life. I agree with what he said but it doesn't address my post.

Certainly media has made our culture worse. But the internet is the major cause of our declining culture in my view. It allows people to hide from the world with which they interact. And I say this as someone who makes his living on the internet.
