I would certainly support trading AR-15's in for muskets. You game?

I understand. The reality is that amending the 2nd Amendment is for intents and purposes impossible. Amendments are obviously possible and have been done before but this one is a bit different due to the sensitivity of the issue. You need 38 states to agree to it regardless of which path is chosen and that just simply won't happen any time soon. Maybe in future generations as the ideology of the nation shifts in a different direction it could happen, but that will be decades at the earliest. I doubt that any living adult right now will ever see a change to the 2nd Amendment.

What is most likely to happen going forward is a series of Supreme Court cases dealing with firearm legislation with the Court ruling on whether the legislation is legal under the current 2nd Amendment. Standard capacity magazine restrictions, semi-auto rifle restrictions, ammo restrictions, etc. It will be the states themselves who start doing these things with the lower courts pushing things up to the USSC every once and awhile.

To be honest I worry about what would even happen right now if the federal government tried to ban semi-auto rifles again. Sure there are many tough guy internet folks who blow smoke but there really are A LOT of people who aren't joking around with that, and many states as well. As ideologically entrenched and divided as this nation is right now I am personally way more concerned with what would happen to the country if the feds tried to take away AR15s than whats going on in the country with AR15s recently....

What would actually happen if AR15s were banned tomorrow? I have no idea and I don't want to find out either though. I look around this country right now and I see a massively divided nation along some very hardcore ideological lines with both major political parties and their followers engaging in a "gloves off" approach to everything. There really does seem to be no mercy anymore, "by any means necessary" seems to be the marching orders from both sides of the aisle.

This current climate we live in is extremely uncomfortable to me, I've said it before but we can't live like this. Our nation cannot stand with us being this divided, something has got to change. Gone are the days where we just had different beliefs, nowadays we HATE one another and it's getting worse seemingly by the day. A drastic change in gun laws just seems like a match that I am not comfortable striking in this current powderkeg climate this nation is in right now.

Yeah, it's a bad thing all around. Staying and fighting, at least for me, is suicide. I'm a 40 year old that is overweight. I"m not going to last long in a fight. Leaving the country would be very difficult. Even if Canada or Mexico were willing to let me flee into it, I couldn't stand to leave my family behind, and the odds of us all being able to flee together? Not so good. And I can't afford to flee to other continents, so yeah.

I know a full gun ban isn't going to happen. But I also know a massive cultural shift for the whole country to responsible values isn't going to happen either. Not until the country hits rock bottom. And when that happens, millions of us will die. It's scary and depressing. And the worst part? I know in a way, I am contributing to the problem. I kick the can down the road because no matter how hard I try, I can't find a solution that would work for everyone. And that's the only thing that will avoid a war, is a solution that benefits (or screws) EVERYONE EQUALLY.

Bleh. Sometimes I just hate what we humans have become. And I know there is good out there. I see it in my family every day. In my co-workers. But is it enough?

    Thank you for your time.

Scalia was a control freak who hated the idea of people having personal freedom. I was very glad when he croaked.

Politicians pass whatever laws they like, regardless of what the Constitution says. That is because Americans like to live under their own rules instead of the rules that other people make for them.

For example, when the Constitution was adopted, slavery was legal in all of the States. So, how could some of the States abolish slavery and deprive their citizens of the federal right to own slaves? The States that did that violated the Constitution as it was written and adopted.

The Constitution is just a guide. Politicians were violating it as soon as it was written. Force is required for it to be enforced.

Based on this link about Missouri gun laws =https://www.gunstocarry.com/gun-laws-state/missouri-gun-laws/#mo-laws2, the guy didn't break any laws if he was legal to own guns. The firemen who drew his gun on the guy did break the law.He committed third degree assault. He should be arrested and charge. The cops who arrested the guy conducted an illegal arrest and should be suspended from active duty until they can pass a comprehensive exam about Missouri laws. The DA who filed the bogus charge against the guy should be disbarred for violating the guy's rights under the Missouri Constitution =

    "Text of Section 23:
Right to Keep and Bear Arms--Exception

That the right of every citizen to keep and bear arms, ammunition, and accessories typical to the normal function of such arms, in defense of his home, person, family and property, or when lawfully summoned in aid of the civil power, shall not be questioned. The rights guaranteed by this section shall be unalienable. Any restriction on these rights shall be subject to strict scrutiny and the state of Missouri shall be obligated to uphold these rights and shall under no circumstances decline to protect against their infringement. Nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent the general assembly from enacting general laws which limit the rights of convicted violent felons or those duly adjudged mentally infirm by a court of competent jurisdiction."

Why do you assume the person was arrested for bearing guns? The article doesn't explicitly mention what the actual arrest was for. It could have been for disturbing the peace or something else.

I know many people get really scared and uncomfortable when they see guns around.

And no right, even a constitutional one is ABSOLUTE and UNBREAKING. Restrictions on constitutional amendments already exist. I get you may not like it, but your dislike hasn't resulted in those restrictions being lifted. You can still get into trouble for yelling fire in a crowded space. Bearing open arms in a crowded space has a similar effect, IMO. No wonder people are reacting the way they do. And you can't stop them, because they have the right to not conform to IDEALS they don't want to.

That's because we as a nation won't allow it anymore. There is no more reaching across the aisle, compromising on issues, meeting in the middle, etc. Nowadays it's all or nothing. We as a nation can't even agree on what "America" should be. Hell in the past at least we could do that part and disagree on other smaller issues, but when the nation as a whole can't even agree on what type of nation we want to be then we have some huge problems that are going to have grave consequences. At this rate the old Soviets may have been way more correct than they even realized. They don't have to kill us off, we'll do it ourselves, and while their nation died first we are going to be next if we don't figure this mess out very soon.

I read an article a while ago from Canada saying something like it sort of sees the nation below it as the latest in the long line of humanity's great empires who's mortally wounded and coughing up blood right now. And sadly I agree. This country is in trouble, we cannot survive as a nation when half of the nation HATES the other half of it. When our Presidents, regardless of which party they represent, only represent half of the nation. No matter who is sworn into office come January 2021 they will be an "extreme". They won't be sort of Left or sort of Right they will be at the very far end of their respective spectrum. That alienates the entire other half of the country. And whoever comes after them will have to be extreme as well in order to counter that person and gain "victory" for the other team. And that pendulum is going to keep swinging like that and not settle somewhere in the middle. We don't have Kennedy Democrats and Reagan Republicans anymore, we have Warren's and Sanders' and Trumps'. Folks that have become so extreme that OBAMA's policies were crapped on during the last Democrat Presidential Debate for not being Left enough and Trumplicans trashing normal Republicans for not being Right enough. The policy on the Right nowadays seems to be if you're in the party and you disagree with Trump and his cohorts then you're a RINO. Remain in extreme goosestep or you're fired and/or ostracized by your own party. That is the policy on BOTH SIDES of the political spectrum right now.

There are no real solutions to anything, guns included, that will benefit everyone or screw everyone equally. No matter what policy is enacted in regards to any current issue it's going to PISS OFF half the country and overjoy the other half. Not just upset one half, but PISS THEM OFF. That's how polarized we are as a nation.

I really don't think we should start messing with guns right now...our nation has lost it's freakin mind. I keep hearing about these Red Flag laws. Well I'll be honest, if we applied that to the world stage then our own damn country as a whole would be getting the cops called on it. From the outside looking in with a pure unbiased perspective I see this country and unstable as all hell and I'd probably call the cops on my neighbors if they acted the way we act here and I knew half of them had guns in there.

Wish I could like this post more than once.

Yeah, I don't think gun laws are going to change in any major way any time soon. So no worries there.

Still, even if you have a gun in the USA right now, it might be better to keep it hidden. After all, even if you have a gun, if you are up against a larger group of people, your chances of making it out of a firefight are slim. Better to try to de-escalate the situation to where you don't even need to pull your gun out.

Just wish more people would agree with this point of view.

Under Missouri law, the person has the right to open carry his gun, wear the clothes he wants to, and to enter certain public places (not all). He did not violate the law. He did commit a stupid act and, if he had been a black or and obvious muslim, he would have been shot dead on the spot.

The person who did commit a crime was the fireman who drew his gun on the guy. The cops also performed an illegal arrest and violated the guy's rights under the Missouri State Constitution. The DA is also in violation of the law by prosecuting the guy on bogus charges. If the guy has any kind of a decent lawyer he should be able to get the charges dismissed or win a not guilty verdict.

The guy was charged for making a terrorist threat =

A Gun-Toting Man In Body Armor Who Sparked Panic At A Missouri Walmart Was Arrested For Making A Terrorist Threat
    https://www.buzzfeednews.com/articl...i-walmart-gun-panic-body-armor-shooting-scare

That is a BS charge because he was legally doing what he is allowed to do under Missouri law. He did not brandish his weapon or threaten anyone with it.

You are entitled to your opinion.

And I, along with those police and other people, are allowed to disagree with your opinion, and act accordingly. Sorry that many people don't feel safer surrounded by guns everywhere in public places.

And we may not be able to ban guns any time soon. But conservatives and gun nuts are not able to FORCE us to change or feelings and views.

So, stalemate. Guess we will just have to wait and see how things play out.

Whether or not you agree with their decision, it is final and all must abide by it unless the 2nd amendment is repealed or amended.

It's only final until the next court ruling.

That's why we elected Trump. So, that he can pack the courts with judges that will interpret the constitution as it was intended to be.

    None.

If Walmart has a no gun policy, then Walmart can file a report. But I'm not aware what law he would be charged under.

You will never hear it on the mainstream media, but a certain number of those "mass shootings" were staged events, and that includes a few in Europe.

Gee so there isn’t any point in sending them to jail or for that matter having any laws whatsoever.

You don’t have to find a solution that will work for everyone. An overwhelming majority will work although so far even overwhelming support hasn’t led to universal background checks.

A very good question, but I don't know the answer. In general terms, by parties who want to see firearms become illegal.

Maybe read your post again. Here I will help you remember.

“ Bad people are going to bad things no matter what laws are in place.”

So obviously you are saying that. laws have no function.
