I live in right wing heaven, Arizona. Friday there was a run at our local grocery store like you see in zombie apocalypse movies. This isn't about political ideology, it's about fear and that crosses all politics.

:roflol:I would think that most people would have a feeling of uneasiness and disgust (a gentleman always carries a handkerchief or two), but no need for a brown flood.

I live in a strongly Republican Florida district and the shelves are emptying before they can be refilled every single day! The virus, thus far, has not declared a political affiliation. The only ones seen claiming the virus does have a political affiliation are Trump supporters who fail to adequately explain his indecisive and miserable performance throughout this, his very first real challenge as President.

I live in southwest suburbs of Chicago.
Yesterday went food shopping. Shelves were well stocked up, except for toilet paper and paper towels. The store did have unusual number of customers for Saturday morning.
Then I went to a local Walmart. Same - toilet paper and paper towels are gone. Walmart also didn’t have any pain killing medications - shelved were empty. I didn’t look for them, it’s just that the empty shelves in that area of pharmacy caught my eye.
My cannabis vape cartridges are almost empty, so I went to a dispensary in Joliet - they were well stocked up and for the first time since legalization I literally walked in, showed my ID twice (standard protocol), came up to order taker, then went to cashier right away and got out of there in under 5 minutes. Usually you must stand in line for at least 15-20 min. For those who are hunting for pain medication - Indica White 99 vape will do a much better job than any Tylenol out there (but it will make you very sleepy).
After the dispensary I went to Home Depot and guess what? There was a huge pile of paper towels right by the exit. I was legitimately running out, so I got myself 1 pack. It is kind of interesting that while Walmart’s and Targets don’t have poper towels Home Depot had a huge pile. I guess rational people don’t shop in stores where you buy things to build or repair something. :)

So you live around liberals and therefore blame them for what you are seeing around you. What you seem to be lacking is the ability to understand that same behavior is happening everywhere. The virus has no political affiliation.

Panic is buying a two year supply of toilet paper to get you though the next 30 days. Your panic is only making things worse for all

Most preppers are preparing to bug out into the wild if there's massive civil disobedience and riots. They just want to get to where there's a chance they will be left alone. I guess you could bug out for coronavirus but if you're healthy there's little chance it will lay you up or even that you'll know you had it. If you not healthy you're not going to throw on a big pack and hike far off the trail.

Not happening in my small town which has very few liberals. What I am seeing in this thread though is in major metropolitan areas that are statistically conservative there's still plenty enough liberals to clean out the stores and demand that local government overreact.

A lot of people are beyond the pale in full panic mode, but most of the rest do feel uneasy. The truth is that the government and nobody else knows how this is going to go. imo it won't be very bad, and we won't get a sudden spike curve like South Korea.

You see improvement each day, like the quicker private sector is involved now, and testing in you car is beginning now in several large cities and will ramp up fast.

Down the road in Spokane? Where do you live, in an orchard? LOL!

I was just reading a post here by a die-hard trumper last night, bragging about having bought enough toilet paper for six months. That is just stupid! And that means other people can't buy any.

Personally I'm shaking my head and rolling my eyes about this mass hysteria over a bad cold. In my 70 years on this planet I've seen hysteria come and go like when people were building bomb shelters, pushing cars in gas lines and stocking up for Y2k but I've never witnessed anything on this scale. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Yes, you know and all the world's health experts are idiots.

You heard it here first folks! Screw John Hopkins. Just ask your local Holiday Inn expert.

As I said I live in a small town that's overwhelming conservative and store shelves are well stocked. No shortage of anything including TP.

Oh really? And just how do you KNOW the political leanings of the individuals doing the panic shopping? Are you canvassing them as they depart the store with their carts overflowing with sought after goodies??? LOL! Gimme a break!

Hopefully true and they are therefore not participating in the panic.

I agree buying a two year supply toilet paper isn't helpful. However, a little feel of urgency is needed for people to get their behind in gear to avoid social contact that isn't absolutely necessary. If Fox news had their way, we'd all still be partying like it's 1999 -- and the virus would be taking advantage happily.

I think you are right. Preppers seem to come mainly from one side of the political divide.
One one of my other forums it is the right wing survivalists who are bragging about how many 20lb sacks of rice and bottles of water they keep in stock at all times.

How much is a two year supply anyway? I don't keep track of toilet paper use, but I don't think I change the roll that often.
