My theory is it's only the left panicking over the corona virus and just like AGW and Russian collusion they have worked themselves into a frenzy as they start to believe their own political rhetoric. I live in a conservative town in a conservative state and the store shelves are full. People are going about their business and schools are in session. Meanwhile down the road in Spokane which has a lot of liberals store shelves are empty and schools are shutting down.
How about where you live? Is it a liberal or conservative area and what's going on locally?

I'm living in a small town in France, so rather liberal for american standarts, rather centrist for french standarts.

Schools are closed, cafe, movie theaters, a lot of stores, are closed. I must admit that I frequent many fragile people, so I would avoid to contaminate them. You can't visit retirement houses anymore.

Globally the government there didn't had any stable policy, a few days ago they said "no question to close schools", and they closed schools recently, a few days ago, they said "don't panic" and today they ordered everybody to close everything.

I didn't frequented stores the last days, so I can't say, but a lot of things are starting to miss.

Houstonians are not in a panic yet, but they are considering whether or not they want to panic. Friday the wife sent me to the grocery store to pick up a few things and the parking lot was jammed full at noon with people taking off from work to stock up.

The Fat Stock Show and Rodeo was shut down and schools are mostly closed and yet it seems as if the average citizen is simply looking at these things as wise precautions rather than an "Oh my GOD! We are all going to die!" scenario. (Meh) but lets see how things are by the end of next week.

In Spokane, Trump beat Hillary by a 50% to 41% margin. Nationally Hillary won the national vote by a 48% to a 46% margin. Spokane is a conservative area. Trump has also declared a state of emergency and passed an emergency bill to deal with the virus.

I live north of the Gulf near Biloxi. I woke up at 5 and decided to perc some coffee and then go to Walmart, more out of curiosity than needing something. What there wasn't: no kind of paper product anywhere in the store, no hand sanitizer, no alcohol, only 3 loaves of bread, no dry beans or rice, no noodles, no eggs, no butter, no water, no Gatorade, dry cereal aisle 2/3 empty, peanut butter almost gone, canned meat almost gone, and strangely enough, all the Triscuit crackers gone, and most other crackers gone. And about half the nutritional supplement rack was empty.

I talked to the lady in customer service I know. She said that yesterday people were grabbing, pushing, and ramming each other's carts, it was a zoo. I bought 150 lbs. of deer corn, some cheese, one loaf of bread (left two), a bag of apples, bananas, and a pecan pie.

All I can say is it's a damned good thing coronavirus is a mild virus and not a killer virus where the loaders are burying people in mass graves.

If you live in a place that has panicked liberals you are forced to participate as they empty store shelves and close down schools and functions.
Spokane is going to shut down schools but open up study halls to give parents somewhere to send their kids which to me seems like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Liberal logic on display.

What you may be seeing is that conservatives have been freaked out for years about the Zombie Apocalypse and have already stocked up on toilet paper and bullets for years ...

Interesting story and hard for me to imagine in my little town where life goes on without missing a beat.

Walmart has reduced their door hours from 6am to 11pm. They are rationing one pack of buttwipe and paper towels.. As of yesterday there is no hamburger no eggs, cold or hot cereals and absolutely no disinfectants, Clorox, Lysol handy wipes or stuff of that nature..

The problem we see here is the outlying Utah folks are traveling out here and buying stuff by the trailer load.. The reason for the short hours is not from lack of product but to give the store TIME to stock the shelves!

I asked one person from Colorado what the hell was up with everyone buying toilet paper, and he said in Colorado "Fort Collins" that whenever someone sneezes there thirty people around them crap their pants in fear!

I'm a bit of a prepper and TP was the one thing I didn't think of. Setting aside your snide comment you may have a bit of a point in that rural people tend to be more self reliant and generally do keep a good supply of food in case roads become impassable in winter. Add to that an ability to hunt and garden and get water from your stream or well and the paranoia factor is diminished. " country boys can survive ".

The "liberal" panic may just save your live. You can thank us later.

BTW: Tony Fauci is not ruling out a national lockdown anymore. Must be "liberal" panic too.

We are pretty small also, but living anywhere close to a city and they'll drive in and wipe out the stores.. Our Walmart has had four city cops parked out front three days now because of pissed off loons that think bitching is gonna all of a sudden produce a roll of paper towels :) On a side note, I have started pocketing a little 38 +p lady smith in my pocket, not so much for the people that live here but the idiots coming from out of town.

But I'm pretty well stocked up after yesterday, so now I'm just tempting fate going and watching the shitshow now ;)

Tony is a long time government bureaucrat. No big surprise there.
By the way I'm still thanking you for the peak oil panic. LOL

Panic can take more lives than being calm.Depends more on the
type personality one possesses { Type A or Type B }.
For example the panic that ensued in the 2017 Las Vegas Shooting.

Same, I use a lot of paper towels, lazy I guess! I could just use the 40 disk towel in the drawer and wash them like a frugal person..

Pardon me but your own predjuduces are getting in your way. No one I repeat no one hear in the buckle on the Bible belt believes there is now or ever will be a damn Zombie apocolypse. Not much more than about two or three per cent of the population the country are prepers and damn few if any of them are preparing for a zombie apocolyse.

I was going to post on this but U saved me the trouble, lol... Perhaps apropos here, an article discussing the regional / socioeconomic (seeming) disparateness - to this 'pandemic response'...

    https://thefederalist.com/2020/03/1...es-but-regular-chains-humming-along-as-usual/

P.S. As mentioned earlier (in partial jest) ~ make sure you have enough ammo to protect your TP stash, lol... :)

March 13, 2020 By David Marcus

Different types of people handle situations differently, especially when it comes to stuff like a pandemic of a deadly Wuhan virus. But in New York City and elsewhere, an interesting pattern is emerging in regard to fancy chain grocery stores like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods which have been picked over like a carcass and still have long lines. Meanwhile, regular neighborhood chain stores have a few shortages, but are operating pretty normally. The evidence is anecdotal, but it’s reflected on social media as well.

I'm Conservative and the only idiots I see relishing the idea of Zombie Apocalypse is the little fat kids watching Walking dead and playing shoot them in the head video games.. You really think Conservatives have made Zombie movie one of the most popular watched garbage in the U.S., doubtful :)

West side of Sacramento here and yeah, shelves are pretty empty. Tried to go to Costco Friday to get my flavored mineral water, and the lot was full. I quit renewing my Costco card after the last kid moved out because we just didn’t need the quantity anymore and it wasn’t worth the gas to save money on small purchases. Anyway, being dependent on being a guest of a coworker and his card, Friday was a day we could both get there. And it was a zoo. I’ve got plenty of bottled water so we both decided to pass on it. Maybe try it again mid next week, but there isn’t anything I have to have right now. I keep myself pretty well stocked up.
