Between my wife's family and mine, we're escapees from California, stretching from Medford to McMinnville. (My wife and I live part of the year in Corvallis, part in Canada.) You're bang on about Oregon. Portland to Eugene with gaps in between are the majority of leftwingers. Much of the rest of the state would give Attila the Hun a run for his money.

Yes. And a disproportionate amount of revenue is coming from rural counties. They are subsidizing Portland and Portland is still massively in debt, holding twice as much debt as other Oregon municipalities.
Yet Idaho holds about half the debt as Colorado and Oregon.
If more revenue per capita is coming from rural counties than urban ones, it doesn’t matter what amenities you pick. The rural are subsidizing the cities.
Wow. And still rural counties subsidize Portland. You would think you could at least be thankful they do. :)
Don’t know much about what ya’ll call each other. I would like to strangle whoever came up with the idea a person can’t buy gas unassisted.

You can pay teachers now or later. In Illinois, teachers make an average $65,000 per year and start much lower. If you reduce or eliminate their pension, you'll have to pay them a lot more up front, especially if you welch on pension benefits you gave them instead of pay increases.

Do you really think very many IT grads are going to work for a starting salary of $40,000? How about people in the skilled trades?

Geezuz, and who but a wage slave would want to breathe in carcinogens eight hours a day?

Yeh that job would stink. LOL

I made a quick trip out to Oregon and back a few years ago. Live animal transport so no stopping except for gas. Just happened to pull in to a station 5 minutes before closing and was informed if I’d been later I’d have had to spend the night till stations opened up again in the morning. I had no idea such a thing existed in modern society. I’m used to traveling at night and buying gas any time I want. :)

Sure, but the added combat pay and higher cost of living kind of levels the the relativity of the pay in my mind.

Doesn’t change the fact that the state taxpayers are subsidizing Chicago schools.

So out of an organization of 900 police officers a total of 14 are resigning and perhaps another 25 are "looking around" and that is some how indicative of the deterioration of law and order. I am willing to bet that ANY medium to large business would be over the moon at a turnover rate of under 0.5%.

Take a fact and spin the crap out of it to create a negative partisan illusion. Keep ringing that alarm bell. All hell is breaking loose in trump's america and apparently its everyone elses fault.

yeah, I mean why should other citizens subsidize the economic engine of the state. I mean really it should be the other way... oh wait.

You are jumping about, with no coherency to a common point, but if there is one, take pity, I can be slow, so please enlighten me with the point you want to make.

Peculiarities of the way public schools are funded in the US.
Knowing these pesky little things generally helps with understanding the conversation at hand.

I am well aware of how public schools are funded , a rough even split between local and state government funding. Imagine every taxpayer in the state contributing into a general fund that the sitting administration then determines how, when and where it will be spent. Cant escape that damn socialism no how.

It's nuts, IMO. My wife and I haven't been to our Oregon home since March when the Canada-USA border was closed. BC is much safer for COVID-19, so here we are. Here's the latest on pumping gas...

There's a nasty fine for letting you pump your own gas.

This is the longest I've been out of the country in my entire life. It feels odd to have the law change and tell someone else what I can't verify with personal experience.

So somebody thought letting people pump their own gas would slow spread of Covid? That sounds dumber than not letting people pump their own gas in the absence of Covid.

Don’t blame them, with the unjust prejudice they face, especially the white ones, they should quit. Let the idiots who hate them eat each other alive as they have been doing.

Chicago, like other big cities, has to pay a huge premium to get decent teachers. If you want teachers to work for less money, improve school discipline.

    It's all agenda-based BS.

This is something we must solve if we want a stable political system...

But not by stopping people from pumping their own gas.

You can either educate poor people, spend money taking care of them, or finance jails, courts, and police to lock them up.

Odd that most of these "bad cops" seem to exist on urban police forces. I wonder why that is, and most of these issues don't exist in the suburban and rural areas.

Why do you think that is.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Nearly 15% of the Louisville Metro Police Department’s officers are now gone, all leaving in the span of one year. Nearly 50 of them left since protests began in the city in May.

This fiscal year, the department had budgeted the potential to hire 48 new officers in one recruitment class. Instead, they only hired 19 with one resigning soon after starting, Nichols said.
