Could be. The SARS-CoV-2's spike protein has been shown to be toxic in itself, especially to the endothelium of small blood vessels. It also triggers inflammatory responses that could be responsible for the long haul syndrome. So, by creating strong specific antibodies against the spike protein, maybe the vaccines help with clearing out the residues left behind by the natural infection that keep perpetuating the inflammation. This said, we don't entirely understand this syndrome yet. There are more hypotheses than conclusions.

It is important for all the deniers who think that Covid-19 is no big deal and just a little flu - when they only pay attention to the relatively small death toll - that death from Covid-19 is not all; it is now estimated that one third of Covid-19 survivors of all ages and all baseline health conditions can develop long haul symptoms, including young and healthy people with mild or asymptomatic acute phase. Most concerning are long-term damage to hearts, lungs, brains, kidneys, and pancreas (the latter, for example, causing new onset diabetes with the virus directly destroying insulin-producing Beta cells), thus the EXTREME IMPORTANCE of getting vaccinated regardless of your age or health status.

Believes in quackery and junk science and thinks the vaccines are more dangerous than this EXTREMELY DANGEROUS virus (see post #26)

What do you make of reports (i have read it a few times, over several months) that smokers are hospitalized less with it?

Way to really get your message across and be heard, but this is no surprise coming from a 'professional' who feels he has the right to deny treatment to individuals in 'his' hospital, based on his opinion of their choices. Way to really display professionalism bud. I bet your bedside manner is great.

Lets just ridicule those who are rightfully skeptical of the vaccine, that'll really help convince them....

And did you forget to read where I said "IF TRUE" or just willfully ignore that part?

Talking about willfully ignoring that part, what about you willfully ignoring that what I said about denying treatment was just venting frustration and would never happen in real life??? I explained it to you more than once and you actually ACCEPTED the explanation but now, disingenuously, you make it appear to others who didn't read the whole exchange, that I was serious about denying care. Wow.

IF TRUE - it's obvious NOT true. That's junk science. If you can't tell the difference then you're beyond help.

Here, the real dangers of the vaccines (very rare) are put in perspective, for lay people in simple language:

    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/n...-to-two-weeks-highs-11623504743?siteid=yhoof2

My bedside manners are excellent. I explain things to patients and respect their choices. But here, online, I allow myself to vent frustrations. Who doesn't? It's one of the reasons why people belong to internet forums.

I think you're missing a few zeros there.
The article you quoted says 130,000,000 Americans are now fully vaccinated.

We're wary of vaccines in my family and for a reason. When my daughter was in college, the infirmary was giving out free flu shots for something going around at the time. She took the vaccine and later her arm and leg felt strange. It turned out that some people were getting paralyzed from the shot.

My grandson who lives in Texas took a flu shot, and a few days later he became very sick. He battled a high fever for more than a week with green drinks and chicken soup, and then came down with strep throat so he called a doctor for a prescription.

When he told the doctor the symptoms he had, the doctor said it wasn't the flu. It was definitely Corona virus - and yet he had himself tested 3 times, and the antibodies didn't show up. You figure!.

As for me, I prefer listening to Saint Luke of Crimea who was an archbishop as well as a top doctor and surgeon in the Soviet Union - otherwise he would have died in the Gulag. Saint Luke said the best preventive is holy water every morning. I suggest adding freshly squeezed organic green drinks to that. You can never take too many preventives.

Your concerns are certainly understandable. On the other side of that, I grew up in a military family and was required to have shots every year, along with boosters when going overseas. I've continued by getting flu shots every year, along with both Pfizer shots, and have never had an issue. The reactions to the shots are not denied, but could have causes other than the shots. Identifying all the factors that could cause an adverse reaction might be a smarter approach, but it doesn't look like that's something we're all that focused on. That may be related to the small number of reactions. Let's hope the CDC plans to focus more on this.

You got a slick mouth so dont complain when it gets served back. Because I'm somewhat skeptical of a vaccine you basically hope I die. A vaccine, developed faster than any in history, with NO time for long term study.

Everyone around me, and most people in my area are vaccinated. We have very high compliance here. It is so refreshing!!!

One exception is the woman who cuts my hair - blood clots. I explained that birth control pills are over 100 times [or is it 1000 times... I need to do the math again] more dangerous than the vaccine. But she just saw that as additive instead of insignificant. Eeeesh! She has been terrorized by facebook nonsense.

What she is not taking into account is that Covid-19 itself has a 30% risk of blood clots. Hundreds of thousands more than the vaccine's risk.

About highlighting @FatBack as a candidate for the Darwin Award, like I explained in a thread, I'm done trying to discuss this rationally with people who will rather listen to junk science than to real science. So now I'm mocking them. I'm done being nice about this. These are the people who are perpetuating the pandemic, to the detriment of all of us and our economy. And the jab about "way to get heard" - you all here know how hard I tried, patiently, with data and links and explanations. By now, no more.

He thinks I wish for his death. No, I'm merely pointing to the fact that he is a candidate for the Darwin Award. If he changes his mind and says, "I'll get vaccinated" I'll rejoice and applaud. I don't want his death. I want him to get the damn vaccine. But by now I'm done asking nicely. Basically they won't listen anyway.

I mentioned that too. But with most of the rest of us vaccinated, she feels safe. Irony.

In so many ways, there is nothing left to do but call the rw nonsense just what it is. Reasonable people can disagree. But when it comes to rw nonsense, we are far past reasonable. This is pure insanity. Trump was pure insanity. Science denial is pure insanity. Covid denial is pure insanity. Trumplican insanity has destroyed my faith in the country.

You know how children are being damaged and falling behind due to home schooling....

Well the right wing has been home schooling for 30 years. It is now generational.

And that's in part how we got trump, people who refuse to wear masks, and people who refuse vaccines.

I thought the vaccine does NOT target the spike protein but in fact gives cells the instructions to make spike proteins to trigger the immune system to make antibodies that target the spike protein.

If the spike protein itself is toxic then we are instructing our bodies to make a toxin.

Sure, just keep the faith bud. When this untested vaccine has long term side effects, just remember.....I believe "junk science" and then remember you can't untake it.

Well, you know nothing about these things, unlike me, a medical scientist. And you have no clue about what the testing requirements are. Have you noticed that Pfizer has already applied for full approval, not just Emergency Use Authorization? That's because there is enough data, by now. So, no, not untested.
No, there will be no long-term side effects. Now, if you do catch the virus you have a 33% chance of long-term side effects.
But sure, you do you. I'd rather do me. Although, your idea of a fascist required vaccine doesn't match my beliefs. I've never defended any mandatory stuff. Others here with whom I repeatedly said that I believe that one catches more flies with honey than with vinegar, will remember that I'm against all mandates. But of course you'd stereotype me into a box that fits YOUR idea of what I stand for, which is very far from what I REALLY stand for.

That makes you a priest of internet crackpottery.

So should one bet on settled science [actually the best science available], or what some guy says on the internet doesn't know the first thing about immunology, toxicology, or virology, nor likely even knows how to spell all three. Apparently that is a tough choice for trumplicans.

Will you go ahead and you take whatever vaccine they tell you to I'll take my chances while you keep the faith and you can be the guinea pig. And you do realize on an anonymous internet forum any catfish can be a fish of any flavor or color they choose to present themselves as right?
