I'm disappointed we don't have a current events thread to discuss Jussie Smollett's hoax, so let this be it. The trial is underway and, as you might have guessed, it's not going well for Jussie.

 

This scam was the most laughable thing in history and was a big hoopla on PF, as the circumstances of literally -3 degree weather on a Chicago snowy night is when some "MAGA" racists would beat up on a gay black star were absolutely hilarious. The hoax was a real life retelling of the old saying: A sucker is born every minute.

 

Ah, you mean THIS thread. It's a hoot and a half - especially re-reading the initial posts some members had upon hearing about it, especially in the face of such obviously unbelievable lies from Smollett.

 

I'm looking for the page where the apologies for falling for it started. You know where they started?

 

Good dig up. 3851 posts in that thread with far too many of them dishing up insane scenarios where Smollett was really attacked. The best part for me is the cops going to his apartment and he still has the noose around his neck. The next best part was when Cory Booker wanted to make it illegal to lynch people. And if I correctly recall, Harris had a lot to say, too.

 

You know America is super racist when you have to manufacture your own hate crimes.

 

It took a while but one of Smollett’s biggest defenders, mr legal, came around and admitted it was a hoax.

 

He basically hired Milli Vanilli to fake an attack on him...

 

They need to write a children's book about Jussie Smollet called "The Boy Who Cried MAGA"...

 

I have zero doubts there are many that will still stick to their guns. Probably even some on this board. They are so full of their own egos that an apology is ever even considered. Anyone who views Jussie in a good light is a POS person.

Even if convicted, the chances are (virtually) non-existent that he will do any time.

If jurors convict Smollett, his lack of criminal history and the fact that no one was seriously hurt make actual time behind bars unlikely. It’s more likely that a judge would sentence him to probation and perhaps order him to perform community service.

Likely true, and an invitation for even more crazy people to try to fake these sorts of things.

Credit where credit is due, he was able to acknowledge his error and apologize. I will always respect whenever anyone does that. It's not an easy thing to do.
