I think the concern here is that we sometimes express sympathy for a litigant without having heard all the evidence. Why do that in the first place? And why are our knee jerk reactions to all news stories so predictably aligned with our politics?

Every once in awhile when a huge thread from years ago gets referenced, I'll look thru the thing just to see the posters who used to be here, and wonder where some of them went - or get surprised at who was banned. I was surprised to see some on the permaban list.

I teach history as a part of what I do, and going thru that thread is fascinating. Reading MrTLegal defend Jussie - it's interesting seeing where all of us were back then and seeing the arguments being used to attack and defend this idiot. I'd forgotten the lies Smollett told regarding the Subway sandwich and the cell phone and all of that.

Dude, you're never NOT in full anti-Trump mode. And you went from THIS to THIS? Okay. You had doubts about the story from the start. :roflol:Too bad you never said anything like @Steve N @ModCon @US Conservative myself and a bunch more. Funny how said doubts only appeared the same time the authorities busted Smollett. Remarkable coincidence.

    Just give it up, man.

Of course, speaking strictly for myself, most people undergo an evolution.
And something that I posted almost 3 years ago, I might not post today.

Back THEN (in those days) I think since Trump was the President (and, I opposed him), I was much more of a "Firebrand"...

NOW, that my guy Won the 2020 Election, I have mellowed with age and settled into sort of Laid-Back Emeritus Status.

The Partisan "Piss and Vinegar" of my first few years at PF, has been replaced by a more Measured and Serene Tone.

Which makes it even more Absurd and Beyond Obsessive when people continually dredge up this stuff from the previous decade (based on positions which I have long since abandoned).

As a lightning rod of what may be considered PF's "Left-Wing" I am used to facing a constant volley of incoming fire, and I am well-aware that I have a 24/7 Target on My Back.

But, I just roll with it.

Anyway, back on topic to Smollett:
I still can't see how he has a chance of being acquitted.

At this point, even now during the Trial, his attorneys should see if he can just plead guilty and avoid jail and pay restitution.

Guilty he is, and has always been, and there should be a minimum several year jail sentence and multi-millions in fines, but that aside the defense has decided to take a different route...

Jussie Smollett’s lawyers claim judge ‘lunged’ at one of them, ask for a mistrial

Nope, not a parody. The lawyer for a man who manufactured an attack has herself manufactured an attack in order to get Jouwassy off for his manufactured attack. CAN YOU MAKE THIS **** UP? Spoiler alert: No.

    I DIDN'T "Fall" for anything...

You (obviously) haven't heen following the thread...

In fact, you didn't even join PF until after I posted that...:bored:

But, hey--I joined PF on Feb. 1st, 2016...
If you really want to show your undying hero worship and adulation, I am sure that you could dig up something from 5 years and 10 months ago...:bored:

In case you missed it, here goes:

I Can CHANGE My Mind at Any Time...
Even Mid-Sentence (if that's what I feel like doing).

Anyway, when I posted that (post that you screen-capped) I was in My Full WWE Anti-Trump Character.

BUT, later on, when they revealed the actual location--it was somewhere that I was very familiar with.
I hang out there in the Summer.
And, because (as everyone knows) I am the Epitome of Class--I admitted that I spoke too soon.

Tl;Dr-- So Freakin' WHAT! I changed my mind...

    No biggie...
You didn't even join PF until after I had been a member for well over 3 years...
Obviously, when someone who missed well over 3 years of my posting history dredges something up--it is inevitable that context will be lost (or at a very minimum, misunderstood).

    Hook, line, and sinker.

You fell for it not because you were a "firebrand". You fell for it because you were an anti-Trump zealot, and you would enthusiastically believe anything and everything you perceived as portraying Trump and "MAGA" as the consummate villains.

Your pathological hatred of Trump made you extremely gullible, and nothing has changed since then, you're still that person. You're a sucker for any and every hoax and lie that tells you what you want to believe.

... I've been deconstructing posts from a lot of other posters when said posts are patently wrong. Your posts are not unique here. In my defense, if all your posts are either Orange Man Bad, RW Faux Outrage, So what who cares? or wannabe mod wall of text - all followed by a small pithy comment to not to be completely threadjacking, my responses can't be much better. You aren't giving me much to work with here.

You're upset that you're being taken to task for your post in that thread. I'll say it again, your defense of it - saying you knew it all along - only works if you'd participated in the same analysis of Jussie's imaginary story that many of the rest of us did. Myself, Guavaball, Stonewall Jackson, Lil Mike, Modernpaladin - geez, the list goes on and on - not only said we thought it was a hoax, but even explained why we thought it was a hoax. You blamed it on Trump and MAGA - exactly like Jussie did. It was only when it became obvious that he'd been faking the crime that you said you knew it all along. That - I'm sorry, that ain't believable. That's not a confession or apology, that's just trying to save face. We didn't NEED the police telling us it was a hoax before we'd agreed with it because the very idea that you'd even find two Trump supporters anywhere in Chicago - much less walking about in the early hours, much less in sub-zero temperature, much less holding a noose and bleach that should have been frozen solid at those temperatures, much less these random people who would never watch Empire somehow meeting Jussie AND recognizing him even when he would surely have been wearing face coverings in that weather that would have hidden who he was and attacking Jussie who never let go of his Subway sandwich OR his cell phone AND whose attacks only left a scratch on his face? Some things - like what precisely was the motivation for Darrell Brooks to plow thru a parade - we'll need investigators to tell us. Other things, such as was this a hoax? That's pretty obvious. But you never posted such until after the fact.

The biggest surprise here is how Jussie thinks he can still beat the system in the face of not just evidence but even freaking common sense to the contrary. Sure, stranger things have happened - but I don't see any other outcome here save that Jussie Smollett being crowned the Milli Vanilli of Social Justice Warrior set.

Did his lawyer also say the judge was holding a noose in one hand, a bucket of Clorox in the other, and wearing a MAGA hat? That would have been even better.

Excellent breakdown. AJ did zero analysis, and like a goldfish floated up to the surface and gobbled the MSM feed given him. No thought and no questions. Now he wants credit after the hoax was exposed so openly that Smollett is facing charges for it in a city that tried to cover it up.

The criminal justice system is very corrupt and broken, so there is always hope for corrupt connected defendants.

Oh yeah, absolutely no argument there. And I'm sure Jussie has defenders surreptitiously working for him that have wormed their way into the system - and I'm not talking about his defense attorney but people like Kim Foxx. I'll be disappointed but not terribly surprised if Jussie gets off.

That old thread is hilarious. So many people were so gullible! They fell for it so easy. The lefts (though not all of them) hyper emotion natural state stopped them from critical thought. I wonder what the KR thread will look like in a few years to us lmao. But seriously, you see the same with dems and rape accusations. The more emotional an issue is, the left evidence the left wants to see.

this is a genuine problem though. The left is generally speaking emotional thinkers, not fact based logic’s ones. While there are exceptions this seems to be the rule. While some are alleging a change in themelves, others are so stuck they don’t even see it in themselves. This causes the support of terrorist groups like blm to maintain such support for so long.. it causes them to support things like “believe all women” to. The nonsense the left has supported over the years is quite telling.

Trump made dems overplay thier hands, thier emotion and hate isn’t seeing them through successfully with power. And people are seeing it. When dems lose all control in the next decade or so, Trump will be the one to thank.

Excellent points. I love how some people are so embarrassed at thier old post. But accountability is key, it’s how people grow away from such stupidity and don’t repeat it.

and jussie is hoping to beat the system on the idea that he is black and people hate white supremacy, even fake white supremacy so much they would rather side with him. Also, those invested in the culture war would side with him regardless since they don’t wanna see any victories the right will cheer on. Jussie beat the system once with the racist prosecution refusing to persecute since he is black. Regardless, I hope justice is served.

I hope you meant "Justice IS served, right?"

I disagree with you on people taking Jussie's side because they don't wanna be seen as un-woke. I'm on a few other websites and forums with a high number of liberals and almost all of them wouldn't touch Jussie with the proverbial ten-foot pole. If anything, they hate him because - well, most of them say Jussie made it difficult for hate crime reporting to be taken seriously, although I can't rule out others thinking that Jussie made it harder to report a fake hate crime and they're upset about it. Given the number of fake hate crimes that have been made lately, both can be true. We really are at the point now where any hate crime is assumed to be a hoax.
