The problem is that this lady was probably grew up in the 40s and 50s, so apparently this is not new. But then again, there were some seriously rude people back then, especially in the Bible Belt Deep South where segregation was still the norm.

Exactly. But she chewed me out for about 1,000 words, in all caps and red. I dropped the class and the owner contacted me to ask why and I didn't even respond (which is not like me). I'm guessing that she knew because she added "I know X can be a bit much...". Yeah, so why unleash her on new students?

And, it worked out great. I found another glass similar to it. My instructor is wonderful and I've been promoted to instructor and I never, ever, ever treat my students that way. I'm glad I put her in my rearview mirror.

First, I think this is exceedingly rare. Second...I'm not sure of what happened prior to the video...it doest tell the full story and could be manipulated.
Third...the senior lady wasn't violent...she was angry because she was egged on by a seemingly resentful young woman.

    Big deal.

I know about crazy people. I was born and raised in New York. I have lived in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, California and more. Five years ago I retired and searched for a safe, sane place to live out my life. I found a town with great restaurants, low/no crime, great medical facilities, warm weather, reasonable housing costs and, most importantly, friendly, helpful people. From kids to grandparents, everyone here says "Yes, Sir" and "No Ma'am". Everyone holds door open... I know... I'm at an age where people hold the door open FOR ME. It's reminiscent of Beaver Cleaver's neighborhood. As I watch the world the posters here describe on TV, its like watching a broadcast from Mars. Life here is exactly what I was looking for. I won't tell you where I am because I understand that most of the world is getting nastier day by day. I don't want any blue staters moving here and ruining it.

In my line of work dealing with the public at their most vulnerable, I see more young angry people, than old angry people. In my specific area the 'customers' are mostly under 50, and some are very Karenish - especially males between 25 and 40, for some reason.

Bottom line - you get more flies with honey

A smile and a deliberate cheeriness i. Your voice is often the best way of setting up interactions. Everyday i go out of my way to make someone’s day happier. “Been a busy day for you today?” Does more than show you care it shows that you are open and willing to make that persons day better with a smile

I do that, I greet everyone and am polite. But sometimes some people just don't feel like talking.

And that's okay too. You never know what kind of day someone's having or what they're going through or where they're at mentally

I'm retired. I often reflect on the fact that I could never have dealt with the massive numbers of idiots retail sales people routinely encounter. I dealt with customers constantly too. But my clientele were buying Apache helicopters, missiles, anti-tank weapons and similar. They all had engineering degrees, lots of responsibility, and a higher level of maturity than that encountered in the general public.

If you ever want to feel sorry for people dealing with the public read a discussion around “GOMERS” (Get Out Of My Emergency Room).
People demanding coffee and a donut two minutes after being admitted by ambulance
The patient found in the lobby on the phone trying to sell his newly prescribed pain meds
    We even have issues here

But my all time favourite was the true story of the woman in the middle of the ED yelling that “someone” had better come and treat her child’s nits! She got a “sorry lady but that problem is yours” response from the nursing staff

Fortunately I work for a family-owned business that understands how difficult some customers can be without reason.

I'm not required to be a receptacle for verbal abuse as I would be if it was some corporate outfit. I have been threatened, insulted and berated. I also told the guy that threatened me you can sit there and talk all you want but what you won't do is put your hands on me.

Fortunately I had plenty of witnesses aside from all of the cameras and my boss absolutely stood behind that and banned that customer from the store.

People can be so rude and demanding and entitled.

I believe it is a symptom of the moral decay that is advancing in our society. A good number of people seems to think that the world revolves around them and they never learn the meaning of the word no or wait.

In decades working in the defense industry I never had any such conflicts with a customer. Not once.

You wouldn’t mind but these people do not seem to understand that we might be working our asses off on very sick patients. It is worse in private hospitals. Patients come in complaining about “chest pain”. I have the “What’s on the TV rule” if the patient complaining of chest pain is more interested in what is on the TV or their phone than getting immediate help then it is unlikely to be cardiac. True cardiac patients are at risk of dying and at a subconscious level they know it

He was a regular customer too, a typical Small Town Florida redneck. We had gotten along great every other morning.

He comes in the store and takes his time and that particular morning I had a customer waiting for me to fill propane and I was the only employee here so I simply asked the man if he was ready..... Because I had to lock the store to go out and fill the tank.....

Well he didn't like that and proceeded to make a big damn scene about it...... How dare I actually help someone besides him?

He is now persona non grata.

I deal with everything from decent working folks to crack heads at 3:00 a.m.

It takes all kinds to make the world go round I suppose.

I have a question. If we are to account for her estimated age and the era in which she came of age to possibly excuse her crassness, why is it acceptable to state that nobody today still experiencing bigotry and marginalization has a right to that because slavery was abolished?
