The idea that TV should match the demographics of the country is ludicrous.

Not even a close comparison. Here's one for you that actually matches our current discussion: Let's say the authors of Star Trek used ERB as a source and decided to include Red Martians in their lore (just as Tolkien borrowed the concept of elves from the Eddas). And let's say the ERB material specified that some martians had purple skin. And the writers of Star Trek never specified whether there were purple Martians or not. Then a new Star Trek show came along and included a couple of purple Martians, and some fans went berserk saying there should be no purple Martians. That's the situation we are in now.

What about the proportion of gay folks?... you ask most kids and they think half of all people are homosexuals.

Right. Its obviously made for global audience. If black actors ruin it for some die-hard LOTR fans, then so be it. Who cares who watches it or who doesn't? Few years ago some die-hard football fans claimed they won't watch their teams play because of politics, and there is a saying for it: "Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face". In Biblical times people dressed in sack-cloth and rolled in the dust to punish themselves, and this is the modern day version of it.

I don't think there are any in this show, but there is in the other one (game of thrones).

Right, because Purple Martians are not Star Trek canon. What's so hard to understand about that?

And left handed dwarves aren't specified in LotR cannon. Does that mean we should throw a **** fit over a left handed dwarf?

Did Tolkien address handedness? I don't think so. But if he had stated that all dwarves were right handed they should all be right handed.

Well the problem is if you're calling it Lord of the rings or associating it with Lord of the rings it's because you want that fan base. And if you earn that fan base by being true to the original works and good if you crap all over it and then say they're wrong because they don't like your crap that's a different story.

This is such a common thing of modern entertainment and I use that term loosely. Write some piece of garbage and give it a title of some beloved piece of culture and try and market it to the fans of that piece of culture.

I think it's jealousy they're being compared to people that were more talented than them and. It's them so they have to destroy the work of those that were more talented than them.

Did Tolkien address all elves being white? I don't think so. So both seem in the same boat. Skin color and handedness.

If Martians were part of Star Trek canon, and if Star Trek canon drew from a source that had purple Martians, and if nothing in the Star Trek canon said there WEREN'T purple Martians, then why would we entertain whiney snowflake manbabies wetting their britches the moment there was a purple Martian in a Star Trek show?

Dwarves don't have dominant hands, that way they can wield 2 hammers at once to beat things flat twice as fast.

And yet the "inclusivity" and "diversity" militants are always raising hell that there must be PROPORTIONALITY in racial representation in everything, or else it means there's scandalous RACISM everywhere!

So, in a sense, I can agree with them! Blacks are grossly overrepresented throughout American media in all programming today, because Blacks make up a mere 14% of the population of the United States....

So you slept through the first 2 episodes then gave up yet you feel qualified to declare that it stinks?

Certainly Rings of Power is a good example of that. Amazon had all the money in the world. This is the most expensive TV show in history, but with all that they couldn't come up with a compelling story. So they just slapped together a generic TV fantasy story, slapped gazillions in special effects, and marketed it with the Tolkien name. Instead, you get a story that a writers room on the CW could have come up with.

Why are you so concerned about what fans think of a property when you're not a fan of it?

I watched 2 hours of it and I don't want to watch anymore. If it didn't suck that wouldn't be true.

So yes I am immensely qualified to declare that it stinks.

If it feels like a chore it's not entertaining and since that's all it was it failed at its job.

I don't have to be a masochist in order to be qualified.

Seems to be a problem with Amazon. Wheel of Time was incredibly boring, the expanse was incredibly boring, electric sheep was incredibly boring, Britannia was incredibly boring, the feed was incredibly boring.

    Amazon's original content ****ing sucks.

One exception one stand up was outer range. At least so far.

Because I have to imply the only reason you didn't like it is because you're racist.

Even though the worst character in it is galadriel I didn't mind the black characters at all I thought they were good.

Indeed it is. That's because teachers these days are so busy using the classroom to deal with their emotional problems instead of teaching.
