Why don't you think that leaving the KKK and working against it, going on to be celebrated by those in the civil rights movement by the time of your death, is a bad thing?

When did Washington go to war against the US?

First of all, I was being somewhat facetious and not entirely serious.

Please let me further clarify that I much prefer civil and friendly exchanges over rancorous and snarky exchanges.

I know this thread is about renaming US Military forts but rapidly disappearing monuments of Politically Incorrect White men is not too far off topic do you think?

I'm a blacksmith (some say artist) who has designed, hammered out, assembled and installed wrought iron artifacts, functional sculpture, a human sized jazz band, African animals, ornamental gates etc..

I have also shaped stone and assembled stone structures.

Since you've discussed this and related topics, you may have heard of Richmond Virginia's Monument Avenue which is now without its large and beautiful, well designed and assembled old monuments.

About 35 years ago, I used to live on this popular street and enjoyed the various parades, races and festivals from a 2nd floor balcony.

Unfortunately, since the George Floyd riots and the very costly destruction of the monuments it now attracts only angry, destructive, and sanctimonious miscreants who are incapable of creating anything more than litter.

Hidden far from the public eye is the real cost of destroying these expensive works of art that had attracted sentiments ranging from awe to indifference until the George Floyd riots.

It was that distant death that gave otherwise unemployable race pimps, cloistered sophists & common vandals the green light to do what they do best: inflame racial tensions for profit, distort history and tear down what they are incapable of even remotely simulating.

I suppose what vexes me most is wanton destruction and utter waste. How many good people in need could have been better fed, educated, sheltered with the $ Millions spent destroying the old monuments in order to temporarily appease greedy race pimps, selectively outraged, cloistered sophists and those who are only capable of destruction.

Because I have some understanding of what goes into the design, creativity and hard work that goes into the construction of those grand old works of metal and stone, I wince at the thought of the Politically Correct fodder that will attempt to replace them.

    Thanks,

It may not be 'bad', but it's a whole lot less good than someone who never joined the KKK in the first place.

Good. Most Conservatives don't support slavery, but most people who support slavery or defend it as being okay at the time or the Confederacy being in the right ARE Conservatives.

There's a reason that the southern Democrats who supported these things joined with Republicans in the "Conservative Coalition."

Lots of self-described scientists are, and I never said ALL conservatives are anti-science.

Actually, scientists are on their side on this one and agree that gender (unlike biological sex) is a social construct.

So . . . you think that laws against racially discriminatory crimes are . . . more like the Confederacy? Interesting fantasy.

Then take that up with them.

More fearmongering nonsense. No wonder you fell for fake history.

Well it doesn't matter they cannot change the official name but I don't really think that means much.

In Texas fort Hood is called fort Hood it will be known as that for the foreseeable future.

I think this is largely just naval gazing these people have nothing better to do with their time than to think about how to alter things in an unmeasurable way in order to feel better about themselves.

Yeah, see, that's where you're wrong. It was not only about slavery. We've had this discussion before.
Plus, wanting to leave the United States did not automatically make them "traitors", like you contend.

He didn't go to war against us, he kept his slaves proudly. He was also the first insurrectionist.

It was chiefly about slavery, above all else, and they said so. Yes, we've had this discussion before, in which I provided several primary sources from the seceding states agreeing with me and you simply complained and provided no sources of your own.

Was he an insurrectionist against the US? If so, you have a point. If not, you don't. Also, no, he was far from being the "first" insurrectionist.

In what world is referring to fort Hood is fort Hood celebrating anything?

When I give directions around that area and I refer to fort Hood I'm not popping fireworks or champagne corks or anything of that nature it's just a name.

If saying the name of a place is celebrating I think you need to get out a little more.

The USA is built on insurrection.

He owned his slaves and he never made any qualms about it. When will we erase his memory?

Probably an entire generation of veterans have to die out before they stop thinking of Ft Hood as Ft Hood.

The USA was not built on insurrection against the USA. I'm assuming you understand why it would be idiotic to name a US naval ship the USS Benedict Arnold, right?

He didn't rebel against the US to do so. And no one is talking about erasing anything from memory, so stop being dramatic.

And there it is, the infamous “party switch” where slave supporting democrats supposedly became Republicans and (despite only one democrat incumbent switching parties) miraculously converted the Republican Party - the party of Lincoln and Emancipation - into the party of slavery. To be so young and naive as to believe such fantasy, or maybe it’s to be gullible and stupid?

Quote anything I said that is false. Go on. Try. Be specific. We both know why you won't.

I know you claim to not be American, but going to war against one's own country doesn't need a filter on when to stop celebrating going to war against its country.

You could call it tangentially related, but it has nothing much to do with what was being discussed.

At no point have I supported the destruction of anyone else's property. I have repeatedly condemned it.

    Thanks,[/QUOTE]

Have you ever given directions around the Benedict Arnold area?

Well that's the thing though these veterans and active duty people that refer to it as fort Hood will pass that along to the next group because they interact.

I think it'll take a good 50 years for the name to actually change.

I'm not familiar with that area but if I did I wouldn't pop streamers or champagne corks it's not a celebration it's just the name.

It's like if I tell someone to turn left on Cesar Chavez avenue it's not because I like Cesar Chavez. It's because that's what the street is called these are the names of things we pick these names because they need a name and if you want to confuse people to hurt you signal that's your business but I hope it fails.

I still can't believe that the nation's capital is named Washington, after some slave owner. Should be changed to George Floyd City.

Dude, pretty much everything humans did prior to last Tuesday is going to be 'problematic' if you take that attitude.

If your only measure of worth is ****ing Ghandi (and even he was problematic), you should just begin burning stuff down now. Start at your front gate, and work outwards.
