Think it through? Maybe you should do that. We have five times the homicides per 100k than the UK. Violent crime is associated with poverty. Their poverty rate is 20% ours is 11%. They don’t have guns.

The irrational solution for our violent crime is to make guns easier to access. An arms race between legal and illegal guns is what you want. That logic didn’t work with nuclear arms and it will not make anyone safer.

 

More people are dying from synthetic drug overdoses than from gun violence in the US. People have easy access to illegally made fentanyl and opioids. When will you fix that? A start could be to close our porous borders and stop denying that it's not a big problem. Make it tougher for the drug cartels and impoverish migrants they use as their mules to get their product across. A product that has killed! Another idea you might want to ponder is to keep people in jail for breaking the law!

Maybe you take your own advice and think it through. In 2020 more people died from drugs than all fire-armed related deaths.

More than 56,000 people died from overdoses involving synthetic opioids (see source below) in 2020 whereas according to the CDC, 44,222 was recorded for all gun related deaths, and that figure includes murder, unintentional or accidental death and suicides. The FBI also shows more people were killed by knives than by rifles in 2020. FBI data shows over 2.5X people were killed by knives than rifles in 2020 (lawenforcementtoday.com) Maybe we should ban knives?

My point. There is much to take issue with when we see high numbers of our population fall to what many of us see as senseless violence but why the extreme outrage over guns?

Thank you for the fat, hanging curveball I just launched into the upper deck: compared to 1995, crime is way DOWN. (Indeed: violent crime in the US peaked in the mid-90s.) Violent crime is down nearly half. This despite a MASSIVE increase in gun ownership.

 

Gun control is predicated on the assumption that a woman, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose is preferable to that same woman explaining to a Police Officer how the attempted rapist got that bullet hole in his head.

 

I think you have missed the point of the OP. This is not about CRIME but about deaths caused by guns. Guns being the problem (not crime).

If we are to arm the teachers, we do need to arm the school bus drivers, the PTA members meetings with their kids at school, the coaches at the ball games, etc., etc., etc.

If we arm the teachers, why wouldn't they use that power to get what they personally want (higher wages, better jobs, more security for themselves, etc.?
