No one in my family has had an issue with firearms. In over a century of known history, not one problem. None of us have ever used a safe, and guns are stored with loaded magazines.

You fight back like for like. If someone tackles you with a feather, fight back with a feather. If they're shooting at your house, go unlock your gun and shoot back. This is called reasonable force. Your country is certainly under no obligation to do things like we do, but failing to do so is not respecting your rights that come inherent with just being born.
