They have no trouble buying a pound of roast beef in a supermarket either. So? What's your point? Yeah, when you hear someone at the door say they are the police, just open wide. Bad guys never do that. No one ever lies. I never said anything about the electric chair. There you go, another lib inventing posts, saying others said things they never did. Well... at least you're consistent.
If you want to immediately reduce the number of homicides, impose mandatory minimum sentencing laws that will put violent criminals that use a firearm in the commission of a crime in prison for 4 decades.
Hmm, Chicago, and most of the high violence Bluebcities have gun control. Let's see, defund the police, have police no longer respond to life threatening emergencies, yet try to prevent peop having the means to protect themselves. Got it....No!
gun banners only see banning or restricting guns as the answer. It is akin to a faith healer asking someone trained in science why we don't do anything about an illness because we don't sacrifice goats or light candles
I have not said any of those. I have clearly stated repeatedly that I believe that what needs to happen is controls of who gets guns and what types of guns can be obtained. NOTHING MORE AND NOTHING LESS!
There are many strategies - eg, banning assault rifles, waiting period, background check, development of 'smart guns', gun violence restraining orders, social youth & education programs, etc. Here's a comprehensive 262-page pdf if you're up to it. https://ojjdp.ojp.gov/sites/g/files/xyckuh176/files/pubs/gun_violence/173950.pdf But since this is more of a systemic issue, I would add the following, which also include ways to reduce stress, increase health, and increase the standard of living: * EMF mitigation - eg, converting radio & wireless (WiFi) telecommunications to LiFi (based on light), EMF shielding on power lines, etc. * ban vaccinations & toxic medical drugs * legalize ALL recreational drugs (reduces drug/gang violence & competition) & let it become a free market * clean up the environment, ban all toxic pesticides/herbicides/fungicides, implement ongoing tree-growing campaign throughout the city/country, build more parks & recreational (and swimming) areas in the city, fund expansion of family/community gardens, expand farmer's markets & make access to local farm products easier, funnel more money into green/sustainable city development, and so on. * ban personal vehicles from all large cities, expand mass (electric powered) transportation & make it free for all, and develop free high-speed (ground & subway) intercity travel, develop & expand electric-powered aircraft (including personal/family aircraft) that can be used within & outside the city * ban all guns within city limits (okay only outside of city) * no concealed gun carry * develop different forms of non-lethal weapons for those who want it (eg, Byrna gun) * reform the socio-economic system to be more like European style liberal Democracy in order to increase standard of living, reduce stress, and increase health & contentment * outlaw NRA lobbying & donations to public/elected officials * eliminate corruption in politics & economics
I have explained that many times before. First of all, I would make impossible for anyone to buy rapid-fire weapons, or weapons that can be changed to rapid-fire. Defending oneself is not going to require anyone to be able to kill a multitude of people. Second of all, I would also restrict the purchase of weapons to anyone that has in the past done anything violent or that has shown uncontrolled anger actions. If person has not shown the ability to control his anger, he is more likely to do the same when carrying a gun. To finish it off, I would restrict the amount of guns that any one person can purchase, unless they can show good reason why having a multitude amount of weapons is needed. These restrictions do not impose on the 2nd amendment but will prevent some killings.
Ridiculous. Most of the people that commit mass killings are prepared to die. They are ideologists (biased in some way). They are prepared and willing to give their lives for their ideology. Why would the threat of a bigger prison term stop them? Ideologists cannot be stopped with threats. They have to be stripped of the tools with which to kill. and by the way, ideologists are not necessarily mentally ill. They just believe (or been taught to believe) in something. Sending them to receive mental help is useless. If someone loves or hates, can they be taught not to do it? No, it is an emotion.
Nonsense. Most people that commit mass shooting are gang members shooting it out in the streets. Come on up or over to Chicago sometime and I'll show you. It's just that the gangland mass shooting are old hat. They ain't sensational enough to make it to the headline news, so you don't really know about them. But you know all about the school shootings that the NYT,CNN, MSNBC, FNC, and other propaganda outfits are pushing.
Nonsense? that is a misinformed statement. Either way, imposing stronger penalties are not going to stop them. Going to jail for a longer time than is now given, is no reason to go against the orders of the gang. Gangs are an ideology like everything else. The ideologist is willing to give his life to be part of the group.
So your point is that more gun control would mean less children dying. Is this in the context of school shootings?
Not ridiculous...effective. but I get it...you would rather make excuses for murderers, unleash them back in the shitholes they live on so they can kill more people, usually balck people...and then focus your efforts on law abiding citizens...you know the 'real problem'.
I am done with this topic. Debating with people that believe more guns are the answer will never see it any other way. It is like talking to a brick wall. I am wasting my energy and time. It is not worth it. I will leave this topic with these facts: https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/26/world/us-gun-culture-world-comparison-intl-cmd/index.html The US was home to 4% of the world’s population but accounted for 44% of global suicides by firearm in 2019 The country recorded the largest number of gun-related suicides in the world every year from 1990 to 2019. There are 120 guns for every 100 Americans, according to the Switzerland-based Small Arms Survey (SAS). No other nation has more civilian guns than people. No other developed nation has mass shootings at the same scale or frequency as the US Half of the world’s developed countries had at least one public mass shooting between 1998 and 2019.* But no other nation saw more than eight incidents over 22 years, while the United States had over 100 — with almost 2,000 people killed or injured. Gun-related deaths reduced after the introduction of stricter laws in these countries Shortly after a mass shooting in Tasmania, Australia banned rapid-fire rifles and shotguns and tightened licensing rules. Over the next decade, gun deaths dropped by 51%. A decade of rising gun deaths in South Africa prompted the government to pass new laws prohibiting certain firearms, mandating background checks and tightening licensing requirements, which capped gun ownership numbers. A mass shooting in 1996 prompted the UK Parliament to further tighten the country's gun laws and ban private gun ownership.* Gun-related deaths fell by a quarter over the decade that followed. Three mass shootings in three years prompted Finland to overhaul its gun laws in 2011. Gun deaths were already falling, yet there was an additional 17% drop between 2011 and 2019. Meanwhile, countries that have introduced laws to reduce gun-related deaths have achieved significant changes. A decade of gun violence, culminating with the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, prompted the Australian government to take action. Less than two weeks after Australia’s worst mass shooting, the federal government implemented a new program, banning rapid-fire rifles and shotguns, and unifying gun owner licensing and registrations across the country. In the next 10 years gun deaths in Australia fell by more than 50%. A 2010 study found the government’s 1997 buyback program – part of the overall reform – led to an average drop in firearm suicide rates of 74% in the five years that followed. Other countries are also showing promising results after changing their gun laws. In South Africa, gun-related deaths almost halved over a 10-year-period after new gun legislation, the Firearms Control Act of 2000, went into force in July 2004. The new laws made it much more difficult to obtain a firearm. In New Zealand, gun laws were swiftly amended after the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings. Just 24 hours after the attack, in which 51 people were killed, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that the law would change. New Zealand’s parliament voted almost unanimously to change the country’s gun laws less than a month later, banning all military-style semi-automatic weapons. Britain tightened its gun laws and banned most private handgun ownership after a mass shooting in 1996, a move that saw gun deaths drop by almost a quarter over a decade. In August 2021, a licensed firearms holder killed five people in Plymouth, England, marking the worst mass shooting since 2010. After the incident, police said the gunman’s firearm license had been returned to him just months after it was revoked, due to assault accusations. The British government then asked police to review their licensing practices and said that they would be bringing forward new guidance to improve background procedures, including social media checks.
Its better that you be done...especially about a topic you just flail on and literally know nothing about. News flash...there have been 12 mass killings SINCE the Port Arthur massacre in Australia...approx equal to the 20 years prior to the gun ban. And that 'firearm suicide rate'...cleverly worded...but guess what happened to the NON-firearm related suicide rates? "Over the last decade, the age-standardised suicide rate for males increased from 16.2 deaths per 100,000 population in 2011 to 18.2 in 2021. Female rates also increased from 5.1 deaths per 100,000 population in 2011 to 6.1 in 2021." Funny thing about people truly intent on suicide. They find a way. Really want to see a change? https://media4.manhattan-institute....and_police_to_reduce_homicides_in_america.pdf
What is rapid fire, in your mind? 8 rounds a second? 30 rounds in 20 seconds? We've had mass murders committed with "assault weapons", semiautomatic rifles not classified as "assault weapons", bolt action rifles, lever action rifles, semiautomatic shotguns, pump action shotguns, double barrel shotguns, pistols, revolvers, and rimfire firearms. Are all of these rapid fire and thus unsuitable for self defense? The Nashville shooter fired 152 rounds in 14 minutes, or about 10 rounds per minute. I know several people on this board, including myself, who could do this with an over and under shotgun. How do you get past the Constitutional protection for all bearable arms in common use for lawful purpose? Is yelling at the TV during a sporting event a disqualifier? Is slamming your tennis racket on the ground a disqualifier? How would you even get this information. Explain to whom? What is the purpose of this restriction? Every single one of these restrictions violates the Second Amendment. Have you actually read Heller, McDonald, Caetano, Printz and Bruen?
Quite frankly, the "but Mommy all the other kids are doing it" argument is nonsense. How many of those countries you cites have over a million people illegally entering their countries? Yeah, yeah, I know - they're all jus good hearted, honest, law-abiding saints - except many are not. They don't have fentanyl being imported in amounts sufficient to kill half the population - and that's happening every week. The US probably has more gang members the the entire populations of many of those countries you site. Bottom line is that comparing nations side by side based solely on a few numbers is a humongous circle jerk.
