Muscle memory is a real thing.
We recently ran an informal handgun competition with a forced reload after a string of hits, usually on a loaded chamber. Firing heads up against another shooter, first one done wins.
Every time I reloaded, I racked the slide and expelled a live round - because I always rack a closed slide when I reload.
Took me to the fourth relay to break myself of it.

Using your weapon is a small part of the equation. Soldiers larn how to fire their weapon accurately in Basic Training. There are five levels of combat training: Individual, Crew, Team, Collective, and Joint. The advanced levels of this don't concentrate so much on shooting... they concentrate on NOT GETTING SHOT.

one of my best friends married into a very wealthy family. His father in law agreed to sponsor my friend of two years on the USPSA tour. My friend got to 97% A (Now grand master). He never could beat me at plates or pins but in USPSA he was better. He practiced reloads three hours a day while I was trying federal cases. He practiced his draw 2 hours a day for those two years. that's what you need to do to be really good at some of these competitions.

When I resetlled in my new state to retire, I went looking for a place to shoot. Surprisingly enough, I found few places to do so. The "premier" range was also a training facility. I went out to look. As I drove up, I saw some students standing upright in the middle of a field, shooting at stationary targets, reloading and so forth. I decided it was a training facility to get killed, so I didn't even stop.

My s/n is "AAR" for After Action Review. Best training tool around. I learned that on my first MILES exercise when a Soldier went over to help his buddy who had been shot in the simulation. He was then shot too. When I asked him what he thought happened, it dawned on him that a bad guy had a bead on that spot... that's why his buddy was shot. Lesson Learned? Don't go where someone else has been shot or you'll get shot too!

If it was my call, the reckless (likely right-wing) gun nut would spend at least a decade behind bars.

of course-you think people who own guns and vote against gun banners are a far bigger threat to your political agenda than criminals. and you are right. You want to punish gun owners while not doing any thing to violent criminals because they are essentially on your side.

Quite an imagination you have there.

I want ANY gun owner who acts as stupidly and recklessly as this latest moron in PA did to be locked in a prison cell for many years.

so you believe negligence rather than actual criminal intent should result in many years in prison>? I call bullshit on your reasons-it's obvious -based on your other posts-that you have a serious hard on for gun owners

When you're negligent with a deadly weapon, and it results in a young child receiving a life-threatening injury, your ass should be in prison for many years, in my view.

Thought you righties were all about personal responsibility?

Why do you seem to want this latest reckless gun-owning moron handled with kid gloves?

you obviously have no experience with criminology where mens rea is a key component. When you have the intent to kill you get far more time for the same action versus one where has no intent to kill. Example-I see my neighbor and aim a gun at him and shoot him because I didn't like the fact he played his music late one night-That's murder. On the other hand, I see a coyote attacking my dog and I shoot and miss and kill my neighbor, I am going to be charged with a far less serious crime. You obviously are hateful of gun owners and demanding someone spend lots of time in prison for NEGLIGENCE proves your position is inane

In the state of New Mexico, Farmington Police Department officers shot a man after confusing the address. According to CNN, the circumstances of the murder are currently being investigated. 52-year-old Robert Dotson became a victim of a mistake by law enforcement officers. The police received an appeal about an incident of domestic violence. But the security forces broke into the house located opposite the right one. At first, no one responded to the knock on the door. Then, according to the surveillance camera, Dotson, armed with a pistol, opened the door. Seeing this, the officer fired his weapon, killing the owner of the house on the spot. The wife of the murdered man started a shootout with uninvited guests, but when she saw that it was the police, she stopped shooting.

Well, Mr. Dotson's gun didn't exactly protect his ass in this situation, eh.

In fact, it likely got him killed...

The cops (and/or possibly the person who gave them incorrect information) are clearly morons.

But if the guy opens the door unarmed, he's probably sitting in his la-z-boy and hoisting a cold one on another Saturday night right now.

It COULD have been a crazy liberal with a gun, friend of the tran that killed the kids in Memphis too! Then he'd miss that beer and be dead.

People that eat mashed potatoes with their hands are morons. People that shoot innocent folks in their homes are murderers.

A crazed liberal tranny with a gun, eh, AAR

    LOL

Well, we certainly know that crazy trannies in Tennessee have absolutely no problem buying multiple guns in multiple Tennessee gun stores.

At any rate, the AP piece states that officers 'initially knocked on the door and announced themselves as police'.

So Dotson may've at least had some warning that cops were at his front door, but still decided to open the door with a piece on him.

And before you send those officers/"murderers" to the electric chair, you might want to sit down with your buddy "Turtledude" and have a chat about "negligence" (Post #1068 above).
