White privilege, what does that mean? To my understanding it’s a term used to sum up all whites into a category outside of disparities. To claim whites have never been treated unfairly. I’m sure most would agree that’s what this term means. But is that term not prejudice? Does one who chooses to use that term not assume he or she knows any one given individuals personal hardships simply by looking at their skin color? Is that no a prejudice way to look at people? I believe it is. I can point to examples of people given extra points of medical Urgency for simply not being white, I can also point to a farmers aid bill that gave help to any farmer so long as they were not white, I can also point to presidents who removed names off of lists of judges to be nominated just because they were white, I can also point to politicians who asked white males not to apply for positions. Are those not disparities whites have to overcome?
it's a bullshit term the left uses in order to try to divide Americans into warring ethnic special interest groups. It also is a convenient excuse for some other groups to excuse various deleterious pathologies that infect their cultures. Talk about black on black crime rates or the fact that 1/3 of black males have felony records by age 40? it's due to WHITE PRIVILEGE
It’s a political term much like woke that I don’t pay any attention to. To me, regardless of which side uses these phrases or terms, it’s all political propaganda in search for votes. If one is swayed by them, that’s on them.
Wow, that post just reeks of desperation and whataboutisms. Of course it's not discriminatory. I'm not saying that a white person has never been discriminated against, but the term itself describes discrimination in the other direction.
Whataboutism? Has nothing to do with whataboutism. It’s proof that there is no such thing as white privilege. Whites are politically attacked far more than any other race. That’s a fact. Can you name any current law or rule within our government system that excludes people by race other than whites? I just named some that do in fact discriminate against whites. Prove me wrong.
I don't like the label at all. I understand the spirit of it, and agree with part of it. It's mostly irrelevant now. There is still some systemic racism, but its fading. White people are definitely on the defensive these days. You don't solve inequality by creating reverse inequality. That seems to be the goal for some.
How does inequality get solved? Your statement is an admission that inequality does in fact exist and it also suggests that there are disadvantaged groups, so..... How does it get fixed?
By progating a culture where people are viewed as individuals, judged as individuals, and treated as individuals instead of a part of larger group.
Great. So if that had always been the case, there wouldn't have ever been the need for AA, correct? And of course, we both know your statement will never happen, not in this country.
That will never happen as long as there are progressives like you that insist on making everything about race. Remember the interview with Morgan Freeman about race? Where he told the interviewer I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man and I'm going to stop calling you a white man?
Funny, you cons made about everything about race and sex. Slavery, denying women and blacks the right to vote and own land, Jim Crow, yep, that was your ideology. And still is..
You misspelled " progs ". Founders of the KKK. Keepers of slaves. Fought hard against the civil Rights movement. Remember Joe Biden that didn't want his kids growing up in a racial jungle and so therefore he voted against integrating schools?
Do you remember the white rich youth, Ethan Couch, who killed four people due to his drunk driving but was only sentenced to ten years of probation due to his defense of “affluenza”? That is white privilege.
That was green privilege. Do you think of Ethan would have been poor he would have got the same sentence?
OTOH, do you think if Ethan had been the child of a rich black that he would have gotten the same sentence?
Of course because then you can buy a better attorney. So do you think if he was poor he would have got the same sentence?
I think the term is meaningless and stupid. I don't care what people call me. I'm a caucasian but was soundly discriminated against when I arrived at my first year of school in the U.S. because of my Spanish accent. I was called a "****." It didn't bother me but it was discrimination. I remember when affirmative action arrived in the 1970's. I worked for a large public corporation and was told that there would be no more advancement for white males in the company because it would go to minorities and women. I resigned the next day. That was racial discrimination. Do you want to paint me with white privilege or call me a white supremacist because I am conservative? Knock your socks off. I don't care even a little. I will just consider you ignorant and rude.
If he were black he would still be in prison if alive. If Couch were poor he would have gone to prison. That the opposite of “affluenze”.
The democrat party did that but there is hardly anything comparable between the parties of that age and today. This is just a misdirection to avoid the truth of the point being made.
The problem is much of your ideology sympathizes with them. Hell just look at the folks on this board.
Remember Darrel E. Brooks jr. who was let out of a domestic arrest on a low $1,000 bail only to intentionally run over and kill 5 people during a Christmas parade? Was that white privilege too or just a piss poor justice system? That example is weak on crime prosecutors. That isn’t anymore white privilege as my example is black privilege
