This is the tired talking point when the anti-whiteness is fiction. But it is a disingenuous talking point. Making Snow White not white is part of a pattern. It's part of a larger picture. It's a leitmotif, a recurring theme to de-white. In this case, it's a work of fiction. But what about Hamilton, where George Washington is played by a black man.

You know, Hamilton. The play that was cast through anti-white discrimination at one point.

I mean, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm a bit lackluster on my knowledge of American history. But I believe George Washington was a real person. And I believe he was, in fact, a white man. But, then again, maybe he was a black man. Maybe George Washington was America's first black president, after all. Well, gee, I wished they'd stop toppling his statues and setting them on fire.

Unless you are stupid, you know full well the point that the OP is making. There is a culture of anti-whiteness in this country. And making Snow White not white is just one example in the myriad examples. This is just the latest one.

Fictional portrayals can emphasize the universality of human experience, transcending stereotypes.

As an American male of European ancestry, I do not entertain a paranoid persecution complex when I see a character traditionally portrayed by a male of European ancestry portrayed by an actor who does not fit that profile, just as I enjoy a talented female dancer of European ancestry presented as Shanghai Lil:

I sent the link to a female friend in Shanghai a while ago, and she was secure enough to find it amusing as well.

As an American male of European ancestry, it may be my awareness that my profile dominates politics and business in the U.S. while controlling most of the wealth that causes me not to feel any since of resentment.

    I recognize that some differ.

Dude . . . we've been doing this with non-white characters for DECADES . . . recasting non-white characters with WHITE actors! How the **** have you missed this?

Except that isn't what is happening in modern times. I remember all those old egypt/rome type movies from back in the day where yeah, it was definitely miscast race wise, it was also 50+ years ago. When did they black wash cleopatra? 2023! No comparison!

Fine. Let’s compare. You list black characters that have been race swapped since say, the year 2000, and I’ll list white characters race swapped. I’ll guarantee you my list will be far longer and consist of far MAJOR and more popular characters. Deal:)

And please for the love of intelligence don’t go listing roles from the 30s or 50s when there weren’t enough popular black actors to actually carry a movie.

Switch to white and non-white instead of white and black (those aren't the only races), and sure, we can talk.

Go ahead. List them all. I’m not denying it has happened in the past especially when star power determined roles. But it was during a time when if you wanted people to go to a movie, you cast an actor that can carry the movie. Still been plenty of POC stars for a long time. There are some Asian themed stories reimagined for a western audience but any race swapping there is again star power. Or the story has to be rewritten just to make sense to western audiences, because it doesn’t really translate.

That has nothing to do with what has been going on the past 15-20 yrs, or is remotely comparable to the race and gender swapping going on now. Now it’s blatant and has been detrimental to success becsuse the writing is so bad on top of it all, because they’re giving “anyone” a chance. Sorry. Your skin color or gender doesn’t determine competence. Hollywood is sure learning that lesson. Disney is so stubborn they’re jumping off a cliff and have done so much damage to so many brands they may never recover.

not sure if this video is a documentary by Disney or about Disney, or maybe neither. But it sure looks like it's about Disney.

By the way, that video is footage from a Disney film called White Wilderness. I don't know where the Billy Joel music fits in, but it works swimmingly. :)

Cool. I'll give you a list. Just clarify what time frame you are willing to accept. I'm not going back to the 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s, but are you going to bitch if I bring stuff up from the 2000s? What date do you want to start with.

No. It is a business exercising its rights. Why do you think businesses shouldn't have rights?

Lol, "no apparent benefit"? And you think the vaccine has higher risk of harm than COVID does? BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Jesus ****ing Christ some people are just desperate to be lied to. Have fun with that, dude.

So, it's okay when white people played non-white characters? That was okay? If it wasn't okay, why are you, then defending this? Or are you defending this? Are you defending the fact that Hamilton was once cast through racial discrimination against white people?

Dude, I've already talked about this ****. No, I don't particularly care. I've praised Exodus: Gods and Kings as one of my favorite movies and Joel Edgerton's role as Ramses in particular. Jesus Christ Superstar is my favorite musical, despite the European Jesus. 21 was fine despite the Asian characters being recast as white. Argo was fine despite the Hispanic main character recast as white. I also loved Hamilton, though it wasn't as good as Six in my opinion. My favorite version of Othello was one where Patrick Stewart played Othello, dude.

You'd be okay with a white person playing Michael Jordan, Martin Luther King Jr, Barack Obama, or Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr.? Why or why not?

If Snow White was called Snow White because "her skin was as white as snow," why would it make sense to have a dark-skinned person play her?

Also, does intent not matter? Was the actress chosen because she was the best to play the part, or was it a diversity pick? Was it an attempt to de-whiten?

Lastly, I want to make sure I am crystal clear on your thoughts on this. You are saying it is okay that white people were discriminated against when it came to the casting choices for Hamilton?

Potentially, depending on the treatment. Again, I was fine with Patrick Stewart as Othello and Joel Edgerton as Ramses. I don't know why you ask questions and then IMMEDIATELY dismiss the answer and fail to address it. I'm not going to address the rest until you address the answers I've already given you.

Yet, if a White actor plays an Asian character, which happened in the musical "Miss Saigon" the race hustlers have a fit. Oddly enough the actor who played the part won the Tony Award for his performance. Despite that he was forced to leave the role early.

So "Hamilton" could ran ads for Non White actors to play the parts. What do you think would happen if a White person showed to audition for a role in "Porgy and Bess?"

I agree that both the people whining about whitewashing and the people here in this thread whining about Snow White are basically on the same footing.

Snow Brown like the snow stuck to the bottom of the car. Odd Disney would make such a racist concept.

I find it sad they can't figure out how to write new characters for their diverse cast.

All they can do is substitute. Kind of messed up. I did like the Louisiana frog prince twist. But they rewrote the story. Is this one just going to be a like a group of refugees in 18th century Germany?

Fine 2000s. Whatever list you dig up, gender and race swapping from white to black and male to female or straight to LGBT, will be much bigger. The entire Disney line up alone only goes in one direction. You understand this is a pointless exercise, like trying to prove female athletes are just as good as men. But have fun.

My wife is an athlete and regularly beats men in marathons.

Here are a few examples based on the parameters we agreed upon:

Exodus: Gods and Kings (again, my second favorite Ridley Scott film)
    21
Pay it Forward (my sister's favorite movie)
    Aloha
    Pan
    Artemis Fowl
Bullet Train (another one of my favorites)
    Passion of the Christ
    Argo
    World Trade Center
    The Human Stain
    A Mighty Heart
30 Days of Night (loved both the comic and the film)
Annihilation (one of my favorite sci-fi films)
    A Beautiful Mind
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
    Star Trek Into Darkness
The Dark Knight Rises (my second favorite Batman film and I loved the way they portrayed Bane, despite the whitewashing)
    Doctor Strange
    The Lone Ranger
