Confederate states were not allowed to choose whether to be free or slave. All of them had to be slave states. But, hey, as long as the United States thought that the Southern states were inferior and incapable of self rule, that puts them in the right according to your argument and the South was wrong to secede!

The right to own slaves was protected by the Confederate Constitution, but there was nothing there mandating anyone to own slaves.

 

Progressive politicians think everyone is too stupid to govern themselves, even the people that vote them into office. Sad part is, their base agrees.

 

I didn't say anyone was mandated to own slaves. I said the STATES had to ALLOW slavery. That's literally what "slave state" means and has always meant in this country. No one EVER used that phrase to mean a state where everyone was legally required to own a slave . . . especially since no such structure EVER existed in this country. The only way in which "progressive politicians" thought that the seceding states were "too stupid to govern themselves" is in that they disagreed with the position of the seceding states that black people were too stupid to govern themselves. Think, bud. You're drowning.

 

Why are you more upset by the idea that people who were against slavery thought that slave states were "too stupid to rule themselves" with regards to slavery while you refuse to criticize the slave states for saying that black people were too stupid to rule themselves?
