In today's world we have seemed to have forgotten that the military solution should be the LAST one used, not the first. Diplomacy was ignored for decades as NATO spread, spreading military power rather than effectively using diplomacy to remove any desire for conquest. We could have easily brought Russia into NATO. That would have been the end of it. But, being a superpower has made us lazy and stupid, bringing not just ourselves, but goading our supposed allies into devastating wars.
This is not WW2 with Hitler, as much as so many here seem to wish it was. You "once size fits all" military policies are just...stupid. There were many other roads that could have been taken to avoid the problems we have today. But, the MIC loves them some wars, so here we are.

Russia has been gaining territory quite thoroughly to the west. NATO has all the right to prepare and even intervene in their progress that is knocking on the wests doors.
