I can see an Obama Administration selling U.S. land to the Chinese, and allow them natural resource drilling rights, in order to pay them back for the money we owe them, and cannot afford to pay back. Yet, Obama will not allow U.S. companies to seek out and drill for our own natural resources. If this happens, it will be the end of America as we know it. China Wants To Construct A 50 Square Mile Self-Sustaining City South Of Boise, Idaho: Thanks to the trillions of dollars that the Chinese have made flooding our shores with cheap products, China is now in a position of tremendous economic power. So what is China going to do with all of that money? One thing that they have decided to do is to buy up pieces of the United States and set up "special economic zones" inside our country from which they can continue to extend their economic domination. One of these "special economic zones" would be just south of Boise, Idaho and the Idaho government is eager to give it to them. China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach for short) plans to construct a "technology zone" south of Boise Airport which would ultimately be up to 50 square miles in size. The Chinese Communist Party is the majority owner of Sinomach, so the 10,000 to 30,000 acre "self-sustaining city" that is being planned would essentially belong to the Chinese government. The planned "self-sustaining city" in Idaho would include manufacturing facilities, warehouses, retail centers and large numbers of homes for Chinese workers. Basically it would be a slice of communist China dropped right into the middle of the United States. For more, click here.
Good ole trade leading to enriched opportunities for the domestic population, further shattering the economic nationalist's stance for the blubbering what it is
I do indeed welcome capital mobility in all states. Its part of the gains achieved through economic opportunity.
This is just craziness. Like China can just set up an entire city and I suppose they are going to police it themselves? What do you think, that an entire city is just going to be built and walled off from the rest of America and the Rule of Law and the Constitution? I don't think so. It's no more a "slice of Communist China" than when Chinese laborers lived in tent communities on the railroad lines in the 19th century. Do people actually believe China can set up a "Hong Kong" in the United States? That's an impossibility because the Government cannot just give up soveriegnty over national territory.
Increased economic activity in a very rural US state? Sounds great! It's funny, the anti-trade folks here are against it but the people who actually live in Idaho are for it? I guess they're not naive enough to believe this will be a walled off "communist zone" and see it for the economic opportunity that it is.
Just to dog pile on this post: Source Much to do about nothing and trying to invoke a "red scare" tactic.
In no defense of Obama, there's a bill known as the Natural Gas Act of 2011 that's awaiting approval by Congress. I don't know how much Obama has to do with it, but apparently, it's up to Congress to sign it into law. And right now, it's setting on their desk.
Chinese are quietly buying California real estate through third party intermediaries. Their money is as good as any one else's.
If I said it once, I've said it a thousand times; China will fail just like Japan did back in the 90's. Everything was being made in Japan, Japan was buying property in the US and then it all came to a halt. The same will at some point happen to China.
50 sq miles is ~ 32,000 acres... Canadians on 7.7 million acres of US soil, your making a gigantic mountain out of something much smaller than a mole hill. You also mention self sustaining like it's a bad thing... some states aren't even self sustaining right now (ie running annual deficits). If anything your pointing out a positive feature of this.
its a conspiracy theory http://voices.idahostatesman.com/20...buyingidaho_conspiracy_theory_a_readers_guide if its true won't major news media(nbc, cbs, cnn etc) already put this in their news. also fox news is know for criticizing china whatever the opportunity present itself, they will be all over this if its true. even if its not a consipiracy theory, its no big deal. US bought up land in foreign country all the time. its call investment, which create jobs and other opportunities.
And? It's still not important, it won't be able to police itself and regardless of how it manifests itself (if this is really anything more than conspiracy as the poster above me points out), then it'll be a boon for the citizens of Idaho and may stimulate jobs and growth in surrounding areas. I'm failing to see how this can be painted as a negative.
We have, and always will rely on other nations for job growth and creation (do you make all your the products you own and use?). It's the nature of economics to create opportunities by allowing specialization. Sure, we may not make the widget anymore, but we employ the social media manager for the company (a job that never existed before created by American innovation) -- pretending that we aren't part of a global economy is horribly myopic and your thoughtless 1 sentence replies are growing very boring.
