Its not bigotry, its looking at the multitudes of verses that condone or even encourage rape, murder, and genocide and realizing that book is not a work to base ones morals on.

A humanist code of ethics is far less likely going to condone destroying entire cities for the actions of "sinners".

"If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them."

Yes, it was quite the strawman.

I do read them. The Old Testament was written during a time when survival was paramount. The way of life was far different and not to mention, says a Mesiah would come and fulfill the prophesy. The New Testament.

Perhaps, the next time you read it, you should do so with a Biblical scholar who can hold your hand while you try to intentionally bash it without any prior knowledge of it.

The Old Testament is not what Christians follow is it Wolverine? We still use it in the sense of understanding how God brought forth his Son. What Christians practice is not Old Testament way of life. So why don't you quit being obtuse and start being a little more intellectually honest.

One of the single dad's that raised a child since infancy, all by myself.

Not to mention, perhaps a few children i have never met. Are you good looking? cuz you might be my kid too.

Yes.............. i am a parent and have raised many.

Much and most of what i do is with 'the children' in mind. I care more for the kids (even jerry's), than perhaps any human being you will ever even read about. ie.... i have been on more capuses with in this country then any human being you even read about.

heck there is an indian reservation with signs along the road that perhaps knew i was coming "church hanging from a tree'

i give (enable knowledge) for a living and them children are who i am fighting for.

NO it is not OK to mislead a child......................... period!

and i am here to start 'them days'

ie... read your old theology, within they claim the children will rebel and i am making sure they are armed to the teeth with what is real

It is you blindness to it and your hate of God that makes you see such things. Are leftists/atheists insistent on seeing the good in all cultures? All cultures except anything that has to do with God and Israel?

if what you were claiming was true, then idiots would not be ranting on the genesis 'creation' myth.

If the 'evolution' from old testees to new testees was adherred too, then the children would be learning about the evolution of all, even in kansas.

Today modern lifestyle is somewhat dimented and pervert.

Times in America have gone from good, too bad, now worst.....There is no more family values and moral. Respect toward family and toward others is gone.

Todays society is very self minded independant, and greedy.
Trust in family and others has gone out the window.
Everything is sexualy orientated....Perversion with Gay acceptance is becomeing part of the norm and more popular.

Religion - Faith and the teaching of God and Jesus are dimminishing. Being taken away by Socialist rule and restriction.

Socialist Rule - Liberal goverment is rapidly doing away with what our nations backbone and power was built upon. And stood for.

So for those that choose to tell their kids there is no God.....

This nation and it's people will be condemned by God...............And I think it's slowly happening, look around.

    FACT.

sorry, but it is you that is misled

sure............ each of mankind are equal and each are capable and each are ONE within this universe (god itself)

wrong place........................ israhell is the land of bigotry harboring the city of blood. (jeruselem is babylon; babilu defined "to confuse")

The three religions of abaham are all bound to tel megiddo (the hill/the mount) and armegeddon is the war of wars based on that fight (jeruselem/israel)

the true or best identification of the concept is 'is real'. meaning what is real can be found by keeping "Z eye on" truth.......... the house of knowledge....... (the evolution of knowledge)

in which the last word to all arguments is the 'name' (ie..... math defining the trinity of 'mass, energy, time')

it is how mankind can define (understand) existence itself (the name of god/the mathematical theorem of how existence operates)

guess who be the idiot with 'the name upon the head'?

I am being entirely honest, I have serious issues with any higher power than insists that rape, murder, and genocide can be a holy thing to do. It is fundamentally sick, then to send his son down to die for the sinners, but not actually die, to be resurrected, and cure the sins of person in present and future? It makes absolutely no sense.

How about you come up with a different religion that does not condone such things, and you will find me being much more accepting and tolerant of such a faith.

I find it amusing that you state that Christians do not follow the Old Testament, however, the anti-gay movements are almost entirely based on the writings of the Old Testament.

Yes, I am a part of the vast left wing atheist conspiracy, here to destroy the concept of god and apple pie. All the while smoking cigars and shooting the AR-15's I built.

I don't have any issues with loving philosophies or Israel. I do however have issues with philosophies that condone and are actively used to oppress and suppress human beings.

Yes, I do realize that most atheists are raised as theists. Most people in the world are raised as theists. I do understand that children don't always end up with the same views as their parents.

How is that comment relevant? I can teach my kids what I think is the truth. I have never witnessed an atom, yet I teach about those. Same thing. I have never directly witnessed God, yet I have seen evidence that persuades me.

I disagree, and explain why below.

I don't lie to my children. I teach them the truth as I believe it. I do have the right to do that. My definition of brainwashing is a bit broader than yours. I view all teaching as a form of brainwashing.

You've obviously never raised children. Children are basically selfish creatures. You teach them compassion. Children not taught compassion basically become sociopaths.

Lying is natural. Selfishness is natural. Love is taught. If you ever see somebody that has been raised with no love or boundaries, they are evil folks who don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) about anybody else. Lack of teaching compassion (and most of that teaching is by example) produces sociopaths. Children are not noble savages. They are selfish savages that need to be taught to be human beings. If your viewpoint is true, then kids raised without parental loving would be normal and well balanced. They are not.

Again, you must never have raised children. Selfishness is natural. It is easily taught out of kids by parents (and yes, example is the best form of teaching this), but it is natural.

True, but kids left alone will not become normal. Kids have to be taught to be human.

Well, it depends on your view of what brainwashing is. I think all forms of teaching are brainwashing.

    quite the opposite

i trust the human being and you dont

i know each can comprehend love and selfless living naturally and you dont

i know ALL children are capable and you dont

the reason the monsters of selfishness exist, is because of bad parenting, to start with.

    Any contest that last statement?

ie.... are children born 'good' or 'bad'?[/QUOTE]

Children are born neither. If they aren't "brainwashed" or taught to be human beings, they will become bad. All children (with the exception of a few who's brains are wired wrong (the mentally ill)) are capable of being good, but not unless they are raised that way, they will not become good. The "default" for children is not "good." The default is bad. That said, all can become good, if taught to be good.

Old Testament stuff. Not applicable to Christians. If you were debating a Jew, it would be relevant.

Yet it is used by Christian groups who oppose gay marriage.

It also appears in a book that Christians reference.

So no, I do not believe that it is not applicable to Christians.

As both an atheist and an active member of an atheist organization, I do not believe that telling children that "'God' does not exist" is wrong in any sort of moral sense, I simply believe it to be a strategic error in that; should an atheist wish for his or children to mature into their being atheists/freethinkers, then he and/or she need allow their children to think for themselves in the first place. I believe that, when an atheist's child asks something to the effect of "Is there really a 'God'," the atheist should say something roughly equivalent to "Well what is it that you think of that, sweetie?" and to then be neutrally supportive of the child's response irrespective of what that response may be.
So, too, do I believe that atheists should expose their children to various religious beliefs as well as to go so far as to periodically accompany their children to dissimilar religious services all the while allowing their children to inquire about "atheism" and to attend atheist-centered events. When asked, I believe it to be incumbent upon we atheists to merely relate to our children what it that we believe rather than to tell them what it is that they should believe, for doing so is as damaging as what it is counterproductive if, indeed, it is one's intent for one's children to choose "atheism." Should they not choose to be atheists, then so be it.
But I believe that, given time and an appropriate blend of both views, children will naturally gravitate toward their being atheists simply because they will eventually and independently come to the conclusion that all forms of religion, most especially those of the Abrahamic/dogmatic variety, are highly irrational if not outright silly.
But that is simply what it is that I believe. Most importantly, I remain highly supportive and respectful of the beliefs of all human beings.

    Good day.
    Yours.
    "Eddie Haskell"

Children need to know that parents don't always have the answers to everything. I do not know if any deity exists or not. There is absolutely no proof for or against the existence of it/them. So why would I tell my child about something I do not know? Either answer would be a lie in my opinion. That is why they must decide for themselves what to believe based on their own experiences, studies and wants and needs when it comes to spirituality.

What is so wrong with allowing your children to search for their spirituality on their own? I believe religion and spirituality are personal things that must be discovered for oneself, not be indoctrinated at an early age by the parents. I have no intent to indoctrinate my future children in any religious/non-religious direction.

Not only is it ok to tell your children there is no god, you should tell every child that asks if there is a god, that there is no god. Otherwise you are committing child abuse IMHO.

This section keeps enfuriating me. Evil runs in here.

This is what you tell your child Mak.

"Son, I know there is a God in my heart, I've heard him and felt him. Others will tell you he's not real, but you know inside your heart he is. He is watching after you and me. Before you go to bed pray to God and ask him to be your friend. This nation where we live, America was founded on God's principles and all our founding fathers grew up believing in God, therefore he must be real as he is real to millions of people.
Son, one day you will be attacked for believing in God, turn away and ask God to forgive them, for they are sinners."

No it is not - though it is only fair to note that programming children to believe in God is a great way to make them believe God is a tyrant.
