You pay them the money you told them you would give them.

Regardless of my opinion it is still short sided thinking.

You almost have to put absolutely no thought into it to come to that conclusion.

 

What agreement still needs to be paid? Was it a lump sum or a certain percentage till the end of time? You might be surprised at the answer once you research it.

 

Hey, don't pay them, I don't care but man is that a really ignorant idea. It sounds good to say but is ridiculous in reality.

 

The fact is that we have treaty responsibilities to the tribes and according to the Constitution treaties have the effect of law.

 

Do you know what these treaties actually say? You might be surprised.

 

It makes no difference. They must be honored.

You can't do anything about it so I'm not sure what your point is.

 

The point is that the treaties that were signed have been fulfilled yet we are still paying these people money. The only issues in treaties that are ongoing is the discovery of burial sites which will be honored forever. Payments were never listed in any treaty whatsoever.

 

What do you think would happen if you stopped all payments today?

The tribes would sue. And likely win.

 

Actually they wouldn't win. There is nothing saying they should receive payments in any treaty ever signed. Its only been done as a sign of good will from the American government. There is no legally binding agreement for which them to base a lawsuit on.

 

So naive. Some can't see the forrest through the trees.

Good fact but you have to look at the length of the treaty. Its not indefinite my friend.

Exactly, there is no requirement for us to still be paying.

 

Supply me with a link which references a specified period of time over which those annuities are paid. If you can't then our annuity obligations are indefinite.

 

There are no links to provide since a timeline doesn't exist. There is no legal binding contract with the tribes for annual payments.

 

I'm just talking about if there was no money flow into the reservations starting today. What do you think would happen?

 

Contrary to popular belief the majority of Native Americans do not live on reservations. They live among normal society, work jobs like everyone, go to school and basically live normal lives. Yet they receive payments from the government.

 

They'd have to cut social programs such as law enforcment and fire protection, medical and dental clinics, behavioral health and a variety of other programs.

 

Correct, because they are legally a member of a recognized tribe or nation.
