I'm not calling into question any specific bans or questioning the mods judgment. I'm just curious why I've noticed a lot more "banned" titles underneath forum members names that I've seen posting here since I got here. It wouldn't even strike me as odd that much, except it seems like all these banned accounts seem to have happened in a relatively small amount of time.

Are the mods cleaning house here? Is this part of the new forum upgrade in some way? I'm just curious is all.

You better run. You'll be banned for trying to discuss moderation on the open forum (it's against the TOS, you have to do it in pm or the Suggestion Box threads)

Probably an accumulation effect, you know, you get points racked up for being a dick and suddenly *bang* the screen goes all blank and you get a suspension.

Most are suspensions rather than bans, they come back after a few days.

Isn't it specific mod actions which are taboo?

I would suggest that the new forum software probably has an increased ability to track infractions and in all probability has an "automatic ban" built in. Many do. I modded on a forum where we went from discussing each individual banning to an auto- ban system and the banning/suspension rate went WAAAAAY up. So, to all those who think they are "safe" I am now betting you will be finding yourselves with enforced holidays from the board as you rack up enough points to ban yourself

If they were to clean house, they should get rid of the stormfront immigrants.

    Nobody loves an immigrant

Perhaps there should be a differentiation between being banned and being suspended, an easy thing to implement, I would have thought, merely by placing the appropriate wording under the username. But I guess that's far too simple.

One of the reasons I do not subscribe to that, and please believe me I have given it a LOT of thought, is that peer pressure is known to be an ameliorating effect. If you force someone into only talking with like minded people they will re-enforce their beliefs. If you engage them - apply cognitive dissonance, show them not everyone thinks the same way, then you have a chance of changing their minds. You have to be careful though because sometimes people re-enforce belief as a counter to argument

The Mods never 'clean house', we just ban people who can't be bothered complying with the rules of the forum. Simple as that.

This thread is now closed, because discussing Mod actions is not allowed.

Just to deal with one point, I can assure you that there is no 'automatic ban system' implemented on the new version of the forum.

There have also been no procedural or policy changes relating to bans (permanent or temporary), and no 'house cleaning', or whatever.

Anyone who has been subject to a ban (temporary or permanent) has been subject to it purely as a result of their own rule violations, in the usual way.
