All I can say to this is why?

Is the comic book world so starved for attention that they are turning what use to be iconic figures for kids into fudge packing nymphos? What purpose does this serve, other then to show that DC has passed the point of no return.

The New 52. Will more then likely be the last 52.

I'd have less of a problem if they would have created a new superhero and made him gay. To go back and turn the original Green Lantern character into a homo is insulting to fans of the series. It makes you wonder which characters will be "relaunched" later on in order to toss the "alternative lifestyle" crowd a bone.

The Green Lantern is not real. He is a comic book character. If he is representative of the world that anyone lives in then they are not living in the real world, but rather a comic book world.

Now nothing is stopping anyone from drawing up their own comics with the straightest, most macho man possible.

Anyone who would use the term "homo" so casually, isn't likely who DC is marketing the books to anyway. :(

    Why does it matter?

The reason is for profits, as all business decisions are. Marvel is ahead of DC in this aspect so they want to compete with them. It will either work or backfire. We'll see as time goes on.

Why does it matter to you so much? Do you even read comic books?

If nothing else... those who are afraid of or offended by the Gay-Lantern can elect to NOT purchase or read the publications.

One would think that would be pretty obvious.

No one is forcing anyone to read the Green Lantern comics.

Just gonna buy my boy a dress now and get it over with.

Don't you think you're overreacting? DC is just trying to compete with Marvel within certain demographics.

Just watch, the queer community has a foot in the door with Obama so your going to see stuff like this all over followe d by an extreme backlash. Nothing wrong with being gay but they've been isolated for so long that now there going to push it too far and society will fire back against them leaving them in a worse position then where they started. Turning a major comic book figure into a gay man is just the start.

Perhaps, but it will neutralize after the sharp rise. That tends to be the natural order of things.

It's not a Green Lantern comic. They dumped a gay character that is the "original" Green Lantern into an alternative Earth 2 universe. They didn't use a series title, and its not Hal Jordan the famous one. This was their way of recruiting gay comic buyers (won't happy now after that buildup and then...nuthin) without offending the fanboys who would quit DC forever if they turned their precious Dark Knight gay.

You know, I have thought this for awhile. Sometimes when you push too hard, too fast the backlash is too much. I think that in many cases the GLBT community overshot and since liberals pretty much ignore all conservatives and think that independents don't vote they grabbed onto it and turned this into an unnecessary culture war with crap like "Christofacists" that just tick people off and make them dig in.

I haven't voted for a single Republican in my entire voting life. If Ron Paul gets the nom, it will be the first time. However, every time I hear people make fun of Jesus, or use Christofacist I seriously consider it because it just shows that liberals have zero respect for me, who I am, or anything at all that I believe. I have always supported GLBT rights, always said "yes" when polled, but when I hear about taking kids out of homes for being homophobes or smacks at my religion---which has never stopped me from being accepting and in fact, only forced tolerance from me...I start to just not care anymore and adopt the: do it yourself attitude.

If you don't have any respect for me, don't expect me to vote your way.

On a side note, I'll eat a corn crusted turd before I vote Romney.

Good response. I also don't like Romney but he will get my vote only because of who he would nominate for the Supreme Court. That is my overriding factor.

Who is? I don't think you can catch "teh gay". I don't think reading a comic makes you gay at all. I have comics from Marvel that has had a longstanding gay character. I'm still straight.

    Zosiasmom,

You and I are the only people that truly understand this disaster.

First of all all you people who didn't grow up reading comic books let me just say if you are a right winger this is a total nonissue. Any heterosexual who reads comic books doesn't care about this. Zosiasmom did her best to try and explain it. For all of us who know what Earth 2 is we don't care. They could make that Green Lantern purple and it would have zero effect on us.

The only people that have a right to be upset are gay people. There was such a big marketing buildup and then this fizzle. They got jerked around. Right wingers should be happy.

Seriously non comic book readers please stop posting. You don't understand what DC did. This is like Rush Limbaugh commenting on the Lords Resistance Army. If you don't know anything about that world just be quiet and observe. Everything Zosiasmom said is 100% correct. It's a nonissue for heterosexual right wingers.
