70% of the oil going through that pipeline was going to go ti China, and a vast majority of the jobs the pipeline would have created would have been gone two years later when construction was complete.

I'm not seeing how this pipeline is supposed to save the nation given those factors.

You mean like all those "infrastructure" jobs that Obama has been yammering about in his "jobs bill"?

Still two years of work is better than two years being unemployed, don't you think?

SO... your alternative is for me to go to China to get a freakin Job????

OBAMA promised me a job in 2008..... then (*)(*)(*)(*)ed me over.

In the meantime, he used my 25 years of tax dollars to save UNION JOBS with the car companies(is that just a coincidence?) over just NOT opposing our jobs ..... and even more of my billions of tax dollars went to saving big million dollar bank CEO/CFOs pensions and of course their million dollar bonuses for not having the banks reflect their TRUE performance of bankruptcy.

How many of us would be less guilty of a crime if we just robbed those scumbags rather than robbing us all by entering the country illegally? I always hear that criminal aliens are just trying to make life better for their families. Well, in this Obama led economic debacle... so would us all... and be deserving of amnesty too!!!

I am old and neuvo poor after having a very good job for almost 30 years and now my retirement is gone to pay for saving my home and my family and I can't get any job which I will work at, regardless of what it is, until I die.... but there are no jobs available here for white, old, male folks like me.

Lets not forget anyone who pays 3-4$ a gallon for gas, as we subsidize the aircraft carriers that provide security to get that oil, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that would have never happened if there wasn't oil in the middle east, the cost of global warming if you believe in it, the cost of pollution which I think everyone believes in, road maintenance.....ect.

Gas would cost 10$ a gallon if there was any price integrity in the market place.

I bet he's the sort who assumes that everyone else is a leach on society, but he is not. Its one thing to be on welfare, its another thing to be a total hypocrite about it.

Both of my uncles are die hard Republicans and they are living high off the hog on police and military pensions, along with social security. One uncle gets 6k just from the military and police pensions. No wonder the police department he worked for is struggling financially and the City has to constantly pass bond measures to fund the pensions.

I suspect most of the republicans on this forum are.

they seem to spend an awful lot of time hanging around here, so they obviously don't have jobs, and they whine so much about people on welfare that ... methinks they protestest too much.

No, Republicans do not use government services, Medicare, or Veterans Administration.

They also have their own private military, firemen, and police force, private planes and airstrip with privately owned airtraffic controllers.

Their sewer water is managed by private firms, and their electricity is also privately owned.

They go to private Hospitals, and get private reserved emergency rooms.

When a storm or earthquake hits they try to get a corner on supplies, before they are distributed to other people, then once accumulated, try to go and sell those supplies to the people who missed out.

They refuse to use US Postal service, unless they are mailing a letter laced with anthrax to a Democrat Congressman.

They have their own secret service and investigation services, rather than FBI, CIA, HSA, which they use to wiretap and surveil their competitors.

The section of Ocean in front of their beach houses is privately owned water, which they feel free to pollute, if they so desire.

The air immediately overhead of their property is their privately owned air, which they feel free to pollute if they so desire.

They have their own privately owned forrests which they feel free to clear cut or dump waste into.

They own mountain tops which they dynamite whenever it suits them and let the runoff pollute the public waterway.

If the Grand Canyon was not already government property, a Republican Billionaire would have bought it, then built concrete dams at both ends, and filled it with radioactive waste water.

This is a very rational view of things, but I think its rationality must, at least partially, be determined by a separate factor: how many cases do you think this happens in, and what kind of hammock do you think we're talking about? Because it's a hell of a lot smaller than most people think it is.

6k is almost upper middle class in Texas. There are directors of emergency management positions in our state government that don't even pull in that much a month.

Asking the obvious but just to clarify, is that 6k a month or year?

In Australia age pension for a single is about 18k per year,, for a couple, about 28k per year.

My brother-in-law resigned from the Australian military as a Regimental Sargeant Major (the highest non commissioned officer in the Australia army) at 40 years of age with 22k per year pension, which is also CPI indexed. He also has a middle management job.

Sorry I didn't specify, I meant $6,000 USD a month. That's not even including the Social Security, which puts it closer to $9,000 USD a month. Although my uncle worked very, very hard and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. If anyone earned it, it was him. But still, that's insane for a pension.

Why thank you. I do try to approach these topics rationally. I realize that most things are not as black and white as many would like them to be.

Is there some level of welfare fraud that we must find acceptable? I believe that if people are able to work to support themselves then they should.

Yes, all of your silly examples are exactly the same as AFDC and food stamps. And the Republicans that avail themselves of those benefits have not paid any taxes or contributed to pay for those programs in any way.

    FAIL

Do you realize those fund programs like the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program that help low-income families with their heating bills?

Perhaps. Dunno, never read it. Not sure what that has to do with the pipeline.

Certainly, but I think we need to be seeking long term solutions before we look into temporary ones, especially temporary ones that will benefit China's economy more than ours.

...uhm...no? Where did I say that?

Well, maybe if you educated yourself on how our government works, you'd know that Obama can't give you one, Congress has to.

So did Bush. Romney would have done the same. Every tax dollar of those bailouts ended up getting paid back and those businesses are back to contributing to the economy.

Where did immigration ever come into this?

    Where do you live?

You said a vast majority of the pipeline jobs would be gone in 2 years.

The majority of the road construction/repair jobs in the "jobs bill" would only last 2 years as well. Granted that is based on what I have seen in CA anyway.

But, alas, we are wondering WAY off topic.

Of course they would, but I'm not an Obama supporter/Democrat, so bringing it up against my argument borders on irrelevant.

    And?
