My sister's family is, and they are huuugely conservative. Her husband hates Obama with a passion and talks about him being a socialist or something. Yet, he has no problem being on welfare for all 6 of his kids. I don't understand people like that; it's just so stupid. His kids would probably starve to death if he wasn't getting government assistance. They vote for candidates that think, according to his welfare usage, that he's a lazy leach on society.

I'm conservative and just started taking food stamps because I can. Don't really need to but figured what the hell.

    Does that qualify?

My parents and grandmother are hardcore Republican, my dad and grandmother constantly (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) about welfare queens...but when he lost his job he collected unemployment for a month until he got a new one and both he and my grandmother collect checks from the state of California for my uncle and sister, both of whom are adopted.

It tends to be a trend.

    Conservative with a small 'c', I see.

I think you would rather starve to prove your loyalty in a country that is dying from a lack of it.

Naw just taking advantage of an opportunity. I don't need to get a part-time job since the taxpayer is willing to foot part of my monthly expenditures. Conservatives are intelligent, not idealistic. Work smarter, not harder is my motto :)

I do know many, though they consider themselves on unemployement rather than welfare. but after 5-7 years what's the difference, really?

    The oil industry?

    The coal industry?

The medical industry and the insurance companies?

Venture capitalists, with all their tax breaks/dodges?

Unemployment is social welfare no matter how long you're on it.

I have a friend who's white and poor as dirt. Gets food stamps, SSI, and VA pension (thanks to me). Lives in a shack and drives a thirty year old Dodge pickup truck.

He's convinced Obama was born in Kenya.

Unemployment is different. You have to work in order to get it. Food stamps and other like programs are given to anyone in need regardless of work.

I was laid off from my job on Tuesday.

I wasted NO time in applying for.... more jobs. I disregarded going for UE benefits, although I know I have access to them.

But after some quick and strategic job-searching, I have actually got my dream job in my dream state!

    I am...

    I feel your pain.
SIL, her 3 adult kids, her husband. They hate everything BO and his administration stands for, pray in front of abortion clinics, then spend their welfare check on goods made by chinese baby killers.

Did I ever mention that I soooooo dislike hypocrisy?

LOL! That makes me think of my mother (a staunch lifelong Democrat) whose closest neighbors were Republicans. She always said they sat around and complained about "entitlements" but on the day their checks were delivered by the P.O., they nearly broke their legs getting out there to snatch them up!

Yup, it's true, the conservative party has hypocrites in it. I know that may come as a shocker, but it would be impossible to conglomerate 50 million Americans together into a voting block without getting a good number of hypocrites. I'll take their ignorant, hypocritical vote, because without them we'd just be left with the truly responsible, and our voting bloc would never be big enough to win.

Job loss does not discriminate based on party affiliation. I would bet that your lazy leach republican brother in law would rather have a good paying job but we have a lazy leach of a president who can't seem to get off the golf course or campaign trail long enough to do the job he was elected to do 4 years ago, fix the economy. This is grapes of wrath times. People are hurting. Why don't you help him find a job?
