I am only sure of three dimensions and I guess time could be called one because it is a measurement.

The rest of it is for better minds than mine because a lot lot of it simply makes no sense to me.

The best explanation of dimensions was from an episode of i'm thinking it was Nova. could be wrong on origin, but basically it goes like this:

You perceive in 3 dimensions, because your senses are attuned to living in those three. Imagine a person who lived on a 2d environment like a TV. They'd be able to interact with all the Length and Width of their environment, but if you, existing in 3 dimensions were to stand right in front of them, since they have no perception of depth, you'd be inconceivable to them. And from the idea of string theory there is a bunch of extra dimensions, so it's perceivable that objects existing on a higher plane of existence that would be undetectable using conventional means.

So yeah, wrapping your mind around the possibilities that spawn from that would make smoke spill from your ears. But again, string theory is one of those additions to the big bang to make sense of the universe. there are other models, and none of them currently are able to be tested empirically. To me, any scientific theory that can't be tested is in the realm of 'cool story bro'...

Another irrational contradiction resulting from postclassical theory. Warping means crumpling up and destroying the contents. Think of a tablecloth underneath all the plates. Roll it up to make its length shorter. Everything on the table will turned into a mess, a quantum mess.

It is mistaken because it makes no sense. It is a scientists' substitute for religion. It repeats the irrational mantras of religion: "The wisdom of God (or physics) goes beyond human understanding" and, a famous quote from a Christian fanatic, "I believe because it makes no sense." It's time we stopped this kind of thinking before it leads to another Dark Ages.

First, the soles of your feet would be visible in 2D. Second, using classical scientific thinking, the fourth spatial dimension has already been proved by its effects of the Quantum Leap and Entanglement, which are impossible in 3D. Most causes are proved by effects that can't be explained any other way and should not be accepted without recognizing a cause not detectable in itself. For example, one of the planets was discovered, not by observation but by figuring where it must be by its gravitational effect on the orbit of its nearest planet.

    time travel is a success!!!!!

Man sets a date to access the past: "The Big Bang."

    how ridiculous.

The Universe is well beyond human understanding, our flaw is that we think we can measure it and create constructs that make sense of it. We as humans need to start disregarding our previous constructs and open our minds to much vaster concepts.... Like time, a useless measure in all accounts on a grand scale, there need be no wormholes, or breaks in our so-called reality, there need be only a result we desire. To actually achieve that would require we destroy what we know and actually do what we believe is possible...

As this thread is about time, lets think on it for a second. Time as we humans know it is based purely on the measure between events, the planet and it's revolutions around our particular sun. We have created a concept that can break that down to fractions of a second... What does that mean though? Nothing... Think on the bigger scale, what if we were here on a planet that only finished a single revolution of the sun once every thousand years? What would 'time' be on that level? These are the things we need to start thinking of, not limiting ourselves only to what we created on what's available to us...

So towards the end of a day, after the plane has been traveling high speed for maybe 12 hours, if the guy on the ground who has one of the clocks, phones the other guy on the plane who has the other clock, and asks 'what time is it?', and ignoring for a moment the transmission speed of the voice call, the guy on the plane will provide a time but the guy on the ground will be 10's to 100's of nanoseconds later in time...even though they are talking to each other in real time (excluding transmission time)? More interesting is if they called each other at the beginning of the flight, kept the line open, and asked each other the time every 30 minutes, although they are talking to each other in real time, the clock time they provide will grow more out of sync? Or would each guy, relative to the clock they have in their possession, be reading off identical times on their two clocks? If they could keep this phone line open for 100 years, at some point in the conversation, assuming the two guys have identical birthdays, the guy on the plane would say happy 60th birthday I feel great, and the guy on the ground will say thank you I also feel great, but if that plane then landed, the guy on the plane would find the guy on the ground dead of old age...this is just novice rambling...sorry.

You all do understand that there are a MILLION Nanoseconds in ONE second. What percentage of error was considered for the dozen or so variables during any long flight....

Long before anything could travel at C, if ever, I think an energy force will be discovered allowing that force to potentially travel at near instant speeds, say in a telescope, allowing us to see things light years away in near instant times, of course leading to possible communication.

As for people (humans), to even accelerate to anything close to C, would take generations has even the strongest of us, can't handle 3-4G's for very long.

Totally irrational supernaturalism, straight out of the Dark Ages. All the postclassical phenomena can be explained rationally in the traditional scientific way. Use analogies such as Flatland's 2D viewed from a 3D perspective and go one dimension further in our world. I'll repeat an example of unhibited rationality, since everyone has a mental block against traditional ways of thinking, which got us out of the Dark Ages. The Quantum Leap is not A to B without going through AB, it is A to B by going above AB in a different dimension and coming back, just like an airplane ride leaves the two-dimensional runways to make its own quantum leap through the third dimension of height. You must question authority and accept the fact that modern scientists are childish escapists living in a degenerate dream world that has no rhyme or reason.

Since C is the maximum velocity, how could Einstein use C squared in his fission equation? C squared is 6 light-years a second. It is the maximum speed in the next dimension. By traveling through that dimension, just like 20th Century man traveled through the air to go previously impractical distances, we can really explore the universe. Until then, we're stuck in this solar system.

Because Ek=½mv² Einstein simply made the connection that total energy equals total possible kinetic energy.

is this really that easy to be understood?

    is this real?

this is just unbelievable "fourth dimension"...."different physics"... "diffedrent maximum velocity."

    all rubbish.
under the name of science and NASA, do they think that they can make any statement and formula and simply make people believe?

why are you people making fun of the whole of the universe?

It is necessary to explain quantum phenomena. For example, Entanglement is impossible using the required dogma of only three dimensions, but can be explained as the same individual particle going back and forth through a fourth dimension at c squared. It is impossible to measure the difference between that speed and two things happening at once. All scientific progress is made by imagining a cause to a discovered effect. One of the planets was discovered by its gravitational effect on other planets; astronomers didn't wait until the planet itself was discovered.

The paradigm today is that effects don't need causes, even that effects can happen before causes. This can't last. Authoritarian irrationality is so Twentieth Century.

Other than the sheer size of the universe, and the amount of solar systems in it. Also, there might be multiple universes, we don't really know. But going by the numbers it would be extremely unlikely that there wouldn't be. I can't remember the exact calculation one astrophysicist made but the number he came up with is that there were about 10,000 planets similar to Earth in the Universe at this time, and don't forget how old the universe is either...hell, there could have been life on Mars at one point since there was water. Then again it would have been before the atmosphere was destroyed which would have been billions of years ago...

    Ah...

    I just have one observation...

If time travel were possible how come we haven't had any visitors from the future? They should have invented it by now right?

You really took a while to reply!

But we don't even know if life has developed independently from this planet, let alone intelligent life. There may be 10,000 planets similar to Earth, or even more than that, but we've no evidence that there is life on any of them or of course intelligent life.

    Ah....

What is the future tense of now.....

Then I think is the future perfect...

    a screw it

    You're right

    past. present. future.
    past participle.
    future perfect.

all of the above are just part of a Man made Grammar.
remove the existence of Man from the equation, then there wouldn't be time.

Do you think out there there is sunrise nor sunset?

If there is no time, then there is no time travelling.
because in existence there is always now, no past nor future.

Sorry I was out of commission for awhile. I agree with everything you've said in this post. However it's highly likely that there is other life in the universe. At this point we don't have the knowledge to confirm or deny whether there is or not so definitive statement can be made. That is why I am only reporting the statistics I know, not actually making a claim. I'm glad you responded so soon. It's nice to know that other people are interested in this question.

I guess we need intergalactic time zones which by their vast distances will create 'past and future' time. Because of these vast distances we can't all be in the same exact time which is being called 'now'. It can't be 'now-time' on Earth and the same 'now-time' on a planet 5 billion light years away. So even if we didn't have modern Earth man's time scheme, some interpretation of past and future 'time' would always be present because of the vast distances involved. If it was possible to hover in space, about 13 billion light years in distance, and could encompass the entire Universe, our 'now time' would apply to everything we see...the entire Universe...but no one else in the Universe can share our 'now time'...

I don't agree. Just because we see light from other stars that have taken millions of years to get here doesn't mean that now is not the same here as there.

It might be 6 o'clock here and 8 o'clock somewhere else. If i call tham on the phone we still talk in the now. There is no two hour delay.

Maybe for the same reason nobody builds tourist resorts in the middle of garbage dumps. Nothing there worth seeing. They're all rocking to Hendrix and the Dead at the Fillmore, circa 1968.
