...Filed by a journalist, single mother, and small business owner, the suit argues The Presidential Alert System "violates" rights because it is tantamount to "hijacking private property for the purpose of planting a Government-controlled loudspeaker in the home and on the person of every American."

The system will work like AMBER Alerts, pushing messages from the President to mobile phones. FEMA has previously stated the alerts are only for national emergencies. A test of the system is expected to take place Wednesday, October 3rd.

However, the plaintiffs in the suit are making an effort to stop the alert system. Among the general concerns, the suit states Integrated Public Alert and Warning System Modernization Act -which became law in 2015- is vague and could be biased. The suit states the definitions of "threat to public safety" and "act of terrorism" in the act don't clearly define when it can be used, opening the door for officials such as President Trump to define it as they see fit and potentially "broadcasting arbitrary, biased, irrational, and/or content-based messages to hundreds of millions of people."

    The lefts tears continue.

A "journalist" would prefer no emergency alerts because Trump is POTUS.

I expect it to be thrown out in short order.

I don't know about you guys but I get Amber Alerts at least twice a week down here in AZ.

Its either that or a dust storm warning but I appreciate the heads up in both cases.

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. These fools would prefer not to be alerted in the case of a national emergency, rather than <gasp> receive a text from FEMA while Trump is president.

As for their complaint about Trump potentially "broadcasting arbitrary, biased, irrational, and/or content-based messages to hundreds of millions of people", that isn't allowed according to this article https://www.foxnews.com/us/fema-tes...t-wednesday-to-225-million-electronic-devices which says "rules outlined in a 2006 law states that the White House can issue a presidential alert only if the public were in peril, or during national emergencies. The alert cannot be a personal message on behalf of the president."

Some have tried to stop it by shooting themselves in the arm.

Others by screaming at the sky.

I'm not sure anything has worked yet.

We get Amber alerts, silver alerts and what have you.
There is a State of CT alert but I do not recall if it is from the Idiot Governor
or the St of Ct Preparedness department.

Will Trump use this for Texas to alert everyone to vote for Lying Ted ??

    Trump can't use it.

He doesn't have access to it, only FEMA does.

Besides there is legislation limiting what messages can be sent so FEMA can only send alerts that are approved and on the list.

More fear mongering from the left.

The only reason its called a presidential alert is because it goes out across the whole nation.

Other alerts are local so it indicates the difference.

It has nothing to do with the president at all.

Trump and texting ... what could possibly go wrong ...

    WTF.

It's like putting matches and lighter fluid in the hands of a Pyromaniac.

I realize what you did but that was for the people that actually think the president will be using it.

    No offense to you intended.

No. Trump's messages only go to people who don't support him. It's kind of a cellular "naner naner".....:D

You can spend your life worrying about the myriad of things people "might" do, if you like. I prefer to deal with real problems, instead of looking for "what ifs" to worry about.

I guess if Trump ever abuses the alert system we could cross that bridge when we get to it, but it's a FEMA thing anyhow. I don't think he will (or could) abuse the alert system, and I suspect there is already a system of checks and balances in place for sending out the alerts. It's not like he's going to start tweeting via the emergency alert system. It's really FEMA.

Meh.... I can ignore him on TV, I can ignore him on my phone... It's used ONE TIME for anything other than a test or a REAL emergency, it's a goner....
