Before you comment on this issue, understand what a "shutdown" is. According to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.... What services are affected in a shutdown and how? Each federal agency develops its own shutdown plan, following guidance released in previous shutdowns and coordinated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The plan identifies which government activities may not continue until appropriations are restored, requiring furloughs and the halting of many agency activities. However, “essential services” – many of which are related to public safety – continue to operate, with payments covering any obligations incurred only when appropriations are enacted. In prior shutdowns, border protection, in-hospital medical care, air traffic control, law enforcement, and power grid maintenance have been among the services classified as essential, while some legislative and judicial staff have also been largely protected. Mandatory spending not subject to annual appropriations, such as for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, also continues. Other examples of activities that continue are those funded by permanent user fees not subject to appropriations, such as immigration services funded by visa fees. This explains why the world did not come to an end under Trump's (really Pelosi's and Schumer's) recent shutdown. Libertarians presumably feel like the shut down did not shut down nearly enough! It also may explain why Democrats won't cave. They know full well that we don't really need the services that are curtailed in a shutdown anyway. To be clear, I'm sure they are nice services and all that ... but by definition they are non-essential.
I don't think the issue was really with the non-essential workers but rather the "essential" workers who were working and not being paid. The others just got a month's paid vacation. (And in some cases they also got a wake-up call about budgeting and living within their means.)
I honestly don't care what happens. Nothing will ever happen on immigration because of the Democrats. We have 22 million illegals now. In a generation it will be 50 million. Good bye, U.S. We'll be Brazil in a generation or two.
Do Mexicans celebrate Christmas and can I still decorate my house for the Holidays? Or will it just be Cinco De Mayo and that's it?
Nothing will ever happen because republicans don’t actually care about it either. It’s why they didn’t do **** about it when they controlled congress and the whitehouse for the last 2 years.
