I may be overly optimistic but I can't imagine that a field grade officer of the military would follow the president's command to 'push the other button'. I would risk my command and place the president under arrest.

As for the nuclear codes, Pelosi is an idiot and is straight up fear mongering because she knows damn well that the president only has half the codes and needs to inform key members of congress, like her, of the need to launch.
It's built into the launch protocol, even if the president didn't the Joint Chiefs would. They have a system in place to reach key members at any time. It takes a lot more than two people to fire off nukes. Our response time from detection to launch is between 20-35 minutes for land based missiles, others take longer. And we are only going to launch that quickly if Russia puts the entire nuke supply in the air at once in an obvious attempt to destroy us.
Not technically but they are in the loop. Nobody knows the exact protocol but it's assumed they are informed along with the president by the JCOS. They are all probably on a special speed dial or something. Anyone can inform congress who does have the authority to stop a launch so unless the president is doing it without a good reason and everyone doing the actual launching is on his side then yes, they will know about it. It's a full operation, it's not easy to simply fire off nukes. The president can't just say "shoot". He has half the codes not so he can do whatever the hell he wants, he has them so they are under civilian control and not the military. How people don't know this is mind boggling. The president and the SOD are designed to be our final check on a launch, not the beginning step. The JCOS technically decide when to recommend a launch based off their information, the president then considers his options and decides to OK it or not.

Your very article says that yes they can stop it. Besides, the president doesn't actually control anything about the launch other then authorizing it, that's all the codes are actually for, they aren't needed to actually launch the weapon.
