Some times things like cereals advertise they are healthy when they aren't. Some times the serving size is based on calories, those calories come from sugars and then no one eats just "one serving size". Cereal advertising is targeted at kids. Product manufacturers push grocery store chains to give them the ideal placement on the shelves. Everybody is playing the system. I remember years ago when big tobacco executives got called before a Congressional hearing. Those guys each in turn stated "I do not believe cigarette smoking is hazardous to your health". LOL. Companies don't lie, they just stretch the truth.

 

There are so many different parts of the NRA. Things with the organization really changed in the 1970's. Might be nice to split the legislative/lobbing from the NRA of the first 100 years.

 

Well if you ever get Stateside look me up. You can come by and target practice with me and my wife. We have a 100 yard range in the back yard. Coffee is always on.
Of course you will only be able to shoot my single shot rifles because you are Australian!

No real news since we have accepted this for decades but this ruling would have factored into the decision to payout the Newtown parents

 

And should we allow "problem people" access to matches? What about guns? Until you've begun to cure the socially inherent, psychological ailment of the American population then maybe keeping them away from firearms is a good idea.

One is only 'safer' if they know how and when to use a gun. I have not encountered any such stories of people being 'saved' by waving a gun around, perhaps you would like to provide links to those?

So, advertising a product as making one 'safer' could be applied to all those home security systems currently being touted? Are they playing on 'fear' also? All those commercials for workout equipment are not promoting a 'sleek and sexy' body? Workout clothes that show off one's toned body aren't promoting anything?

It's called advertising for a reason. Guns are no different, they serve a purpose for hunting and competition.

So statistically speaking, what would you recommend for a 125 pound female? A hand gun for which they have received training, or a loud voice to call for help? Which has better odds of being effective?

Maybe you can help me out here. I don't mind if people criticize Sweden and if their criticism rings true (or at least contains some logic) I'll agree with them. If what they say is rubbish I'll tell them so. But those (as you say) who think they can "bait me" into anger aren't worth the oxygen they consume, if "consume" is the right word for it. What they do achieve is opening a window into their own lack of understanding, personal character, and ability to discuss the subject in the first place. They are the sort of people who get to the YouTube video before anyone else and their only comment below states, "First!"

Absurd to think that without these ads people thought smoking tobacco was healthy. Back when I was a kid cigarettes were called cancer sticks.

I guess what I have learned from liberals is that they believe the individual is not only incapable of making a personal risk management decision -- but they should not be allowed to make these decisions which should be made by the collective.
