Biden to announce that the U.S. will close its skies to Russian aircraft, following allies

President Joe Biden on Tuesday is expected to announce that he will order the U.S. to close its airspace to Russian aircraft, according to a source familiar with the president's plans. The announcement, which will come during his State of the Union address, follows moves by European allies to close their skies as part of a full-tilt crackdown on Russia for its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

There is an incredible amount of unity against Putin .....and this invasion.

Let's not leave out the possibility of early stage Alzheimer's, or the onset of senility.

Another interesting speculation I've heard, is "brain fog," as an after- effect, of having had Covid.

That would, at least, explain the timing.
How likely do you think it is that: A) the U.S. would know, if Putin had developed a case of Covid (of any significance); B) that this news would have found its way, into our news?

Of course, the brain fog could develop, even with a mild case. So, I guess it is something to think about, that we can't really know. The beginnings of senility/Alzheimer's, though, seems not a bad speculation.

It is a common problem with dictators. They have surrounded themself with people who they think can be trusted. With that the information they receive lacs the broad band. They longer they are in power the more, because of it, the blinders go up.
What keeps the brain of a older person going, the broad band of information/activity/challenges it has to process.
Putin only hears what he already is thinking or has made his mind up about. He does not have to deal, digest, think through opposing ideas. His thinking process has become a very narrow one way lane.
We see that in this military campaign. Every serving General has told him how great the rebuilt of the Might Russian Army is.
The Greatest Army of the world. This is what he wanted to hear. We will just crush the Ukraine in a few days, just need 150 to 200.000.
We are so good. But they are flat out lying to him, if not, they will be removed.
We have seen that all over history, once leaders believe they are the genius, because of their power and sucess, not just in politics, business, too, they surround themselves with ars kisser and then and lose touch with reality, because the info they get is tainted or flat out lies.

Russian Hit Squad Sent to Assassinate Zelensky ‘Eliminated,’ Ukrainian Official Says

Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said on Ukrainian television on Tuesday that his country received information about a planned assassination attempt on President Volodymyr Zelensky from agents of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB).

“I can say that we received information from representatives of the FSB, who today have no desire to take part in this bloody war,” said Danilov, who claimed that the Chechen special forces sent to kill Zelensky had been “eliminated.”

“The Kadyrovites’ elite group, which came here specifically to eliminate our president, was directly destroyed,” he said. Kadyrovites refers to a Chechen paramilitary group accused of a number of human-rights violations and abuses. They serve at the pleasure of Razman Kadyrov, the head of the Chechen Republic and a close ally of Vladimir Putin. . . . .

Amazing if true, FSB agents tipping the Ukrainians off to such a plot because they oppose this stupid bloody war. I certainly hope that's the case and very much applaud them for it if so.

What are the odds Putin has to take back productive territory? Russia’s GDP is less than half of California’s and just slightly higher than Florida’s GDP.

The oligarchy model may be as defunct as the communist model was in 1989-1991.

Ukraine fed the USSR to great extent. It was also the “tourism” destination for Soviet party members and workers as I understand it.

Putin may have overspent on military just as was done at the end of the Cold War. Maybe he wants to go out with a bang instead of a whimper like when the Soviet Union dissolved.

    Just food for thought.

This actually the worst thing you can do, You create those barriers. Make the city a maze of defensive positions. Cant move heavy equipment to support your troops..
That is the true nightmare for any soldier that has to assault a place like this. When I was in the military, that was part of our training. How to defend a city that had been turned into a pile of rubble, or how to defend a city which was not.
A town or city in rubble is hogs heaven for the defender, because every corner every rubble pile becomes a defensive position, they become death traps

It seems that sanctions and the truth reaching the Russian people alike are having the necessary effect on those in a position of influence within Russia, if not on the madman himself. Translated:

Moscow MPs ask Putin to end the war: "This is the path to degradation and impoverishment"

The Gagarinsky District Council of Deputies in Moscow condemned hostilities in Ukraine and called on Vladimir Putin to withdraw Russian troops from Ukraine immediately.

As Censor.NET reports, the BBC reports.

In a letter to Putin, deputies called the invasion of Ukraine a catastrophe.

"This is a path to degradation and impoverishment of the country. No other action could cause greater damage to Russia's economy," the statement said.

Earlier, a similar statement was made by the Council of Deputies of the Moscow district Khamovniki.

Report from Odesa – Russian attack aborted: for how long?
    By Ugo Poletti.
Published March 1 at 1:54 pm

On Monday, Feb. 28, a squadron of 11 ships of the Black Sea Russian fleet appeared off the Odesa coast with the objective of launching a direct amphibious landing to take the port city.

The area selected for the landing was Luzanovsky beach, a flat strip of land with two lakes behind (Kuyalnyk Lyman). Control of this area would cut off the historical centre of Odesa from the northern district of Fontanka and block the road to Mykolaiv where Russian troops are attempting to cross the Buh River and take the city.

Fortunately, the Russian attack was called off. Probably, the level of defences discouraged the operation. The beach is mined and full of hedgehogs (anti-tank barriers), with Ukrainian local armed forces and anti-aircraft batteries are ready to fight back.

But, there is also a “leaked” report about a “mutiny” of the Russian short-term marine conscripts when ordered to land in Odesa. ...

    ... https://www.kyivpost.com/ukraine-politics/report-from-odesa-russian-attack-aborted-for-how-long.html

A mutiny? That would certainly be an interesting development, though not entirely surprising. This madness can't continue for too much longer.

An incomplete mechanized battalion of the Armed Forces near Kharkiv destroyed one of the most elite brigades of the Russian Armed Forces, Butusov. VIDEO
    21:44 01.03 138749249
The Ukrainian military defeated the 200th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces near Kharkiv.

This was announced by the editor-in-chief of Censor.NET Yuriy Butusov on Facebook.

"Today I visited the site of the defeat of the 200th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces near Kharkiv. The 1st BTGR of the 200th Brigade was personally led by Brigadier General Colonel Denis Kurilo, and this brigade is considered one of the most elite combat units in the Russian army, receiving the most modern weapons.

Now this military equipment has joined the ranks of one of the brigades of the Armed Forces. And the battalion is already replenished with motivated reservists, who are transported exclusively on trophy Russian KAMAZs. And I will soon dedicate new videos to Colonel Kurylo and the circumstances of his escape, "the journalist stressed.

I have to wonder: Has the tide already turned? Does Russia have nothing more than awful missiles to strike at the Ukrainians with any effectiveness at this point? There sure are a lot of reports of Russian forces being destroyed and captured in quantity. It sure looks like ~seven years of training and reforms, a great deal of bravery, morale and tenacity, as well as the wealth of support received before and during this awful invasion have made all the difference.

That long convoy that is moving slower now........is still worrisome........and unpredictable.

Putns objective seems to capture , and suppress Ukraine, .......even if he destroys it.

Meanwhile reports of Russian soldiers destroying their own equipment......... and asking Ukrainians for food ....have trickled in......

Perhaps the Russian soldiers are not as maniacally ruthless as their President.........who cares little for human life.

    But the matter is that
evidence of Russian strikes on civilians is the result of propaganda. Because the Russians do not attack civilians, even if they try to block the columns of Russian troops What's more, the ukranian propaganda is already so fake that some Ukrainians believe that Putin will capitulate soon. But the executions of civilians by ukranian nationalist detachments and the deployment of Ukrainian artillery in residential areas and even in the courtyards of houses is a harsh, cruel truth. And this truth suggests that there is nothing humane in the generals of the Ukrainian army and the European bastards supporting them. They must be judged!

I’ve seen some friendly exchanges between retreating Russians and Ukrainians. I think many do everything they can think of to sabotage facing Ukrainian troops.
