Do you have a double peer reviewed study that says a person can biologically be a cat? Follow the science, isn't that what you said 1000 times in 2020? If not this girl needs to be treated and certainly not affect others learning ability in a classroom.

Of course she doesn't. She's going to tell us that forcing this person to face reality on reality's terms could be unhealthy and use this appeal to authority but does not lay out anything about what that authority might say

Sincere question out of curiosity...have you spent much time with young children on the spectrum?

I have been around several of them. If you're attempting to devalue my opinion by saying I don't have experience with them you'll have to post yours

No need for defensiveness...I don't post 'gotchas'.

Kids on the spectrum are accommodated by adults in order for them to thrive and learn. The only obstacle in that are insensitive peers (and adults) who don't take the time to understand or show consideration. In fact, many of us are in the same boat. There are always people only too happy to take jabs at anyone who is 'different'. I applaud the school and parents for understanding what this girl needs in order to thrive.

If she also prefers cake and ice cream at all meals as it makes her more comfortable, should we just allow it because it makes her feel good?

Not if it's a new thing, it isn't. And it sounds as though it is a new thing.

Her parents have two choices. Either prepare her for a certain level of conformity so she can attend school without trauma, or keep her at home.

It's not about direct harm. She's in a class full of other children. They see an authority figure capitulating and enabling 'whims', and take away a very strong message from that. It tells them that the world will accommodate whims, because whims are important. That's a very unhealthy message to give to children. It creates narcissistic adults who are unable to cope when the world doesn't accommodate their whims.

So yes, real harm is done.

    In other words the world.

And not just her - it will have the same impact on her schoolmates, who're being conditioned to think the world will bend to them, also.

Well, a steady diet of cake and ice cream only would not be good for her health. Just what health risk is her identification with a cat posing?

That's lovely, in an ideal world. Or fairyland.

The job of every parent and teacher is to prepare children for life in a world which doesn't give a crap about their 'rich and meaningful life'. If they can't manage their urges and expectations sufficiently to feed and house themselves in such a world, then no meaningful life is ever going to be available to them.

Play and imagination are tremendously important in early development, but ultimately they are not the focus of the lioness. Her job is to allow for play and imagination only insofar as they don't interfere with the more important job of teaching her cubs to hunt.

Making irrational decisions at an adolescent age and blindly supporting it. You are creating a class of society that will always need to be coddled.

If an 8 year old wanted to have transition surgery, you'd honestly support it?

Only to a degree. The goal is to have them managing their behaviours, and learning how to read the room - so that adult life isn't awful for them.

Copied and pasted from my reply to the same question:

Clearly you don't have any idea what I'm talking about. You read my words and ascribe meaning based on your particular mindset. Since you have no interest on this forum in forming transactional relationships I won't bother correcting you.

It's true though. I guess there will be a few bitter cynics in the adult world for aspiring young adults to dodge.

Just to point out she's in Year 8, which means Grade 8. The girl would be around 13 or 14 years old.
