I was wondering why all the fuss about an autistic girl identifying as a cat. It obviously hasn't hurt her or the other children, yet so many here see it as society going to hell in a handbasket. But now I see that it really doesn't have anything to do with this case - its a trigger about trans children.

Agreed. But she's young and this is allowing her to focus on her schooling. That, I think, is important for her to transition to adulthood. And hey, if she still think she's a cat as an adult, there are worse things she could think, do or be.

I think we need to accept that life is not going to be a cake walk for any autistic individual. This isn't creating more problems for her than she likely already has.

 

And I see it as a class of children learning about autism and how to help kids with it.

 

You consider that preparing kids for the task of keeping themselves fed and housed is 'bitterness'?

You're either incredibly rich, therefore feeding and housing yourself aren't a consideration, or you've never spent time in an environment where people are too poor to indulge counter-productive indiosyncracies.

 

That's where we differ. Many autistic kids can lead relatively normal lives as adults, with general material support. Adding any idiosyncracy to an already awkward package (as far as the world is concerned) does not help.

My last experience with one was building a custom trike for him and his mother. He was extremely excited to see bikes in any form and he was absolutely overjoyed about the machine I had built for him and his mother. They both enjoy it to this day.

There are only impressionable children and those who abuse them. Not just physically but psychologically.

 

There is such a thing and it has been recognised in Pacific Island culture for many centuries - look up Fa’afafine although that is the Samoan name the practice is widespread across the pacific. In Hawaii they are known as Mahu the “third gender” and are highly respected members of the community

Just because a boy might play with a Barbie doll before he ever goes through puberty doesn't mean a damn thing.

They are young and impressionable children being preyed upon and manipulated and abused by adults.

 

I think they should instead help her to thrive without a full body fur costume. I bet an afghan style full burka would do just as well to sooth her anxiety when separated from her fur costume. More conducive to thriving in a modern society.

 

Well. Except they dont take puberty blockers, female hormones or have their genitals surgically removed. They just wear female attire and have sex with men.

Gee IDK....a 6 year old deciding he's a girl because some irresponsible adult put the idea in his head ?

They're little kids with no idea of many things in life..... They would eat candy for dinner all week long if they were left to their own devices
