This is a false narrative. It took OVER A YEAR to get the documents, and even then it took a warrant to get them all. Trump has demanded that they be returned. His lawyer had lied and said that all of the docs HAD been returned. Trump did not fully comply with requests and did not fully comply with a subpoena. There was no "raid." It was the lawful execution of a necessary warrant.

Cheerleaders for Biden, who if he, Biden, were being totally honest would admit to his own irresponsibility. Instead, the third arm of the Democratic Party, Biden's press secretary, and the Biden echo chamber frames it as his being responsible for working with the authorities. I don't think the proper authorities, like the FBI, are sifting through the stash of carelessly hoarded classified information, are they? I don't think it was very responsible for Biden and his team to keep the first found classified documents under wraps until long after the midterm election. In fact, I think that might call for an FBI raid! Some might think FBI raids are much more responsible, in light of Biden's failure to disclose after the first stash was found on Nov. 2nd.

:cheerleader: Go Team Biden! Keep glossing over the obvious deceit of Joe Biden's WH. :cheerleader:

Watching the palace intrigue and political scandal is fun, but I do always desire to reel back into two things: How do these things affect people on a personal level AND what are your expectations?

Expectations: Neither of these men will literally be seen in handcuffs and orange jumpsuits.

Personal level: How is there more or less money in the pockets of the poor, working class or middle class as a result of all this? What should make the farmer, industrial worker or service industry person lose sleep over? A nuclear bomb in their neighborhood?

And your assertion makes even less. It's called chain of custody.

There is no chain of custody if the document is no longer classified. What are you talking about?

Does the president have the ability to declassify a document by thinking it, yes or no? Or are you saying it is only declassified for him and remains classified for everyone else?

And, the FBI bowed out of the search, allowing those lawyers with no security clearances to look for the classified documents.

There's a chain of custody of the documents are evidence in a criminal investigation.

Do they normally let the accused's lawyers collect evidence and decide what is released in a criminal case, not the NA or FBI?

Biden was chosen because he was a safe bet to beat Trump. The Democrats had but one priority in Nov 2020, get rid of Trump. They had no other priorities. Biden accomplished that mission. Biden was an acceptable alternative to Trump. I’m not sure about the rest of the 2020 democratic field, especially to independents which gave Biden his win.

Uh without chain of custody you don't know that it is no longer classified.

Which has nothing to do with what is being discussed — you are welcome to interject but take a few moments to review the subject matter before doing so.

The original premise between myself and the poster I am having the discussion with is that the president can declassify documents without telling anyone — if that is the case then could Obama have declassified the several documents Biden has had stored?

I am sure trump declassified numerous documents properly, that still leaves the ones that were never done on paper however. This simply shows that they knew there was a process and any that were not declassified were never intended to be (in other words stolen)

Nope. Biden's handling of those documents is as illegal as hell. Top Secret documents in an unmarked box in a garage is a violation of federal laws. It's also questionable whether Biden's think (misnomer) tank office afforded the required safeguards to storage classified material.

    OP....
Ok. So let's address this Trump/Biden documents nonsense

"that still leaves the ones that were never done on paper however"... please show us those documents that were not declassified on paper...

    "
then could Obama have declassified the several documents Biden has had stored?" who cares... Trump did in black and white... I'd be happy to repost it if you would like...

remember folks........ "MARKED" classified folders does not mean classified document......
the cute little photo op of folders with those big bolt letter does not prove there are documents inside...

So then everything trump has without a written document showing it was declassified we have to assume is still classified, correct?

What you said before isn't. You seem to be struggling to find a crime to accommodate to a narrative, instead of the other way around. Which is what we did in the case of Trump's stolen papers. And I see no need. The SP will determine if there was a crime, what that was, and prosecute accordingly. But I'm pretty sure he won't prosecute because he waited until after the midterms to make his findings public.

Very true. The sitting President has an enormous advantage. A problem that democrats won't have this time around.

I agree partially, particularly insofar as lawful or unlawful possession of any of the documents is concerned. Trump may have a BIG problem there, but it will have to be determined ultimately by the SCOTUS. Another matter of equal or greater importance, however, lies in the fact that many of the documents were highly-classified! It's likely that the Justice Department (especially this Justice Department) would extend forgiveness to Biden for return of the documents -- even after years had passed, but it's just 'another brick in the wall'.

Still, there's also the separate matter that, obviously, Biden has broken (BROKEN) National Security Agency rules and protocols specifying custody, transportation, and proper storage of the documents, even though they were, ostensibly, 'turned back over' with all due displays of penitence years later. And then there's the matter of why none of this came to light until AFTER the midterm elections in November....

Well... Hillary Clinton got completely away with breaking laws governing national security and classified information in 2016, so, why shouldn't Joe?

Absolutely different. We knew about one because he wanted to return them, and about the other because he refused to return them. That would be the opposite. This doesn't mean that Biden didn't do anything illegal. It just means that they are most definitely very different.

    Interesting article

Jonathan Turley: Biden's lawyers 'likely witnesses in a criminal investigation'

George Washington University (GWU) law professor Jonathan Turley says that President Joe Biden’s lawyers are "likely witnesses in a criminal investigation" as the probe into Biden's handling of classified documents continues.

the "most serious discovery would be evidence that Biden worked off their documents or removed them from their classification folders."
...................................(Which we will never know because the lawyers have now compromised and contaminated the crime scene)

And, of course, this means that you would be happy if he got away with all the crimes he committed.

It's a possibility. Even though I doubt he will. However, it would take a certain type of American to cheer for that. A type that mods would not allow me to describe in this forum.

You accused me of saying the opposite of what I said. Describing the alternative to not reading it would get me in trouble with the mods. So let's just leave it at hopefully you'll have time one of these days to read it.
